I will be the first to admit that I don't want to bother to take the time to set shutter speed, f-stop, ISO, etc when I am taking pictures, but I still want to end up with quality images. I have been the route with several CDCs and even one DSLR I have finally found my perfect camera in the Panasonic Lumix FZ200. Let me add that I have severe rheumatoid arthritis, so weight, flexibility and ease of managing controls is a huge factor for me - but I also want pictures that turn out very nicely. I can handle this camera with one hand easily.
Right out of the box, just figuring out how to use the camera, the resulting pictures are extremely impressive. The clarity and depth of field are outstanding. The Intelligent Zoom is unbelievable - it's like having a spy camera now! I am a novice photographer, but I know quality pictures when I download them. Obtaining the desired results with this camera is done with ease. You have to try very hard to get a bad shot. I can easily say the initial results were stunning.
The LCD is easy to view and very detailed. I am at the age where everything up close is a blur, but the LCD screen is perfectly sized. Having the option to switch to the viewfinder is very nice to have especially when zooming.
The icons on the display are easy to understand, managing the controls is pretty intuitive. And the camera takes over so much it is hardly ever necessary to adjust any settings. It truly is 'intelligent'.
I have only used the video feature once so far, but I very much like the one-button feature for recording video. Very convenient.
I am still figuring out all of the camera's features but I have yet to find something that I don't like about it. Habitually I have stuck to another highly regarded well-known brand of cameras, and I and very glad that I took the plunge and kicked the brand habit.

I was looking for a bridge camera because it offered focal length without the cost and weight of a DSLR. Based upon hours of research I chose the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200. The test, for me, was photographing the moon. You can see the results in the uploaded sample photos.

The Nikon P900, with its 2000mm focal length, will get you a bit closer, but understand that pixel quality deteriorates at the greater distance. This degradation is clearly evident when you crop the shot.

The Cons ...

The FZ200, with a 600mm focal length, is all the zoom I need. There is a whole lot of shakiness, motion blur, fuzziness and focus issues when the camera zooms out. My test photos and videos, handheld at distance, were unusable. (For shots of the moon I mounted the camera on a tripod, and used a remote switch to activate the shutter.)

The internal mic does a good job at muffling sound, but the overall audio quality is poor. You can mount an external mic on the hot shoe, but be advised that the pop-up flash will not operate in this configuration.

Auto-focus and shutter-lag are also issues. Very slow on both counts. I have missed a lot of shots because AF seems to get confused when there is any kind of motion in the camera's FOV (field of view). Motion blur is an issue when taking action shots so consider this if you are a sport's photographer.

The Pros ...

The video, and low-light performance of the FZ200 is surprisingly good. The battery life is exceptional, and I did not need to spend the extra $$$ on a back-up. Yes, it can take pictures of the moon, but if you need an everyday camera this one will get the job done.

Still learning, great images. Ordered a remote shutter and the uv filter also. The remote shutter wasn't in stock thus holding up the whole order. Talked to Bert who got the camera to my house in a couple days. Waiting on the remote shutter, but overall a good shopping experience.

Great bridge camera!

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 Digital Camera:

BH Photo live chat agents helped me pick this bridge camera and after using it I understand why! I have a Canon DSLR but wanted a portable option. I am a Canon fan, but this camera is great! It comes with a lot of things, others don't. It has a filter thread so you can put on different filters, has a hot shoe to add an external flash and also a viewfinder. It is a lot like a small dslr that you don't have to change lenses. The zoom is fantastic! It goes up to 600 mm, which goes farther than my dslr telephoto lens. It is great in low light. I did some test shots to compare to my dslr and printed the photos. It gives very high quality, sharp photos, hard to tell the difference between the two cameras.

Still a great little camera

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 Digital Camera:

I use a DSLR for wildlife photography. I bought this camera to use when out kayaking because I won't risk my DSLR out on the water. I chose the FZ-200 because if the zoom range and the constant f2.8 lens. It is considered older technology as the camera came out in 2012 but it meets my needs at a good price. It is fairly easy to use and takes decent photos - good enough for my kayaking needs.

This is one great little superzoom camera....the current price is great and while not 4K, it shoots great video. I searched on Flickr for samples from this camera, and was impressed by what I saw.... I even got some shots the first week I had this camera, and am sure as I get it customized to my liking, I will be a happy camper.

I really like the clarity of shots through the entire range, the quick focus, the ease of use in such a small package. I mainly do wildlife and scenics, but also people and places. I use it when I do not need my larger digital SLR.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 Digital Camera:

I ordered this camera as a office camera so multiple people could take photos of summer art campers and events we have. I have professional gear but do not want to carry it around with its weight. Some students had used this and I thought is would be easy to use and good for covering what we do at a community art center. The focus is very slow. The ISO is terrible over 800 - too much noise - my pocket Lumix is better. It does have a great zoom but zoomed all the way in - the focus is even slower. So way too much digital noise, shutter lag and slow focus. At low ISO, the images were nice, good for still life maybe. I usually adore Lumix products but just not this model. Included an image I took - low light - not clear, zoomed in all the way.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 Digital Camera:

This is a great camera for the avid digital photographer that does just about everything. The Lens, (designed by Leica), is a great zoom at 2.8. This is a upper/middle line camera that in my opinion beats the Nikon's or Canon's and Sony's in its price range. No, it will not beet my Rolleiflex 8000I or Leica MOT, but that's film and the price is crazy. It takes a little practice to get the color balance good with close up shots and low light, but all these digitals take time to learn. I have used this camera for about 6 months and have not had any issues at all. Its plastic so don't drop it, but the body and lens are quite solid. A very nice camera, and again the zoom lens can't be beat. If you have more money look at the Sony A7's.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 Digital Camera:

Not for technical perfection fanatics but if you can be satisfied with merely good to very good quality images suitable for prints up to 13"x19" this camera lets you capture the details of the world with unprecedented ease. It's all about the lens, weight and the ergonomics. The killer lens (24X at constant F2.8)combined with excellent OIS and fast AF brings the visual world within easy reach. Light and compact, it's great for travel and allows you to remain relatively inconspicuous as you shoot, even as you zoom out to the max.

The EVF (indispensable for outdoor shooting in bright light) is adequate and virtually grainless. There is now the FZ300 out which has a bigger and better EVF and a WiFi connection (which FZ200 lacks). It also allegedly has marginally better image quality though that's debatable. However, it also weighs more than FZ200 and costs a lot more. For my use (mostly art photography) FZ200 is a better value.
