I purchased the first version of this lens from B&H in January. While it was still under the return period the version ii was announced.I returned the original and waited "patiently" for the ii.It took a while but when it was finally announced I think that I was probably one of the first to place an order.I did order it early in the morning on the announced sale day. There was absolutely nothing that I could find wrong with the original but the addition of a motor will come in handy for my back-up D40.I usually take my pictures at night and this lens performs beyond my expectations I'll attach a couple of pics that I have taken with this lens. Bear in mind that I am an amature photographer so the image quality would probably be better in more capable hands

I purchased the newer Tokina 11-16 mm f/2.8 because I was looking for an DX alternative to my Nikkor AF-S 14-24 mm f/2.8 for such occasions where I want to travel lighter or need to attach a filter. It is possible that I expected too much because of the mostly positive reviews I read, and/or that I was too critical in my evaluation of this lens because it is not a Nikon product. Either way, after two exchanges I am still not entirely happy with my third sample but I decided to keep it because it works well for me for landscape and travel photography, which is what I use it for. Also, I know what I've got but don't know what I'll get if I exchange it a third time because every new sample I have had was different from the previous one except for the fact that they all were sharpest at f/5.6-f/9.0 at any focal length.

The first sample was what I would describe as the most "balanced" of the three in terms of resolution. Center sharpness was usable at f/2.8. Border sharpness was not as good as center sharpness at all focal lengths, and very disappointing at 11 mm, especially at f/2.8. The resolution was generally best at f/4 - f/8, particularly at 16 mm. The second sample lacked center sharpness at all apertures and focal lengths, which led me to believe there may have been a focusing problem. My third sample is not usable wide open at any focal length. However, resolution increases remarkably at 4.0, and from f/5.6 - f/11 the lens displays very good to excellent sharpness across the frame at all focal lengths. I am also very pleased with the color rendition.

Even though I am quite satisfied with my lens when I use it in the f/5.6 to f/11 aperture range, I can only give it a 3-star rating because of its underperformance at f/2.8 and - for this product in general - the sample variations.

Comments about Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX-II 11-16mm f/2.8 Lens for Nikon F:

Finally realizing a nearly completed dream Nikon system at 82 years old. I read a lot of evals on various lens and have wanted this lens for a couple of years. Finally acquired it. I am very pleased with the quality of the lens and well pleased with the purchase experience with B and H. I have not used this lens very much as of yet but am pleased with what I have done. I would definitely buy this lens again.

I haven't found anything about this lens that has disappointed me, or didn't meet my expectations, especially for not having to shell out a bunch of money for it!

This lens is a keeper! Bought new so as to have the 3 year warranty. I hope I won't need it. No complaints that I can think of. Attached image is from a D300 NEF, 14 bit, 5 shot bracket run which was then put through Photomatix Pro 5.1.3., saved as a 16 bit TIFF, then cropped and resized with Photoshop Elements 14. Aperture was f8 for all 5 shots. Nothing miraculous but I think this lens will serve me quite well.

I bought this lens for my real estate photos. It is a great wide angle lens for interior photos. It also is half the price of name brand lenses. I love it!

Comments about Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX-II 11-16mm f/2.8 Lens for Nikon F:

In fact on my old Nikon D90, I use the wonderful Tokina 11-16mm ! I use it mostly for landscapes, low light, and video too. I really like the following qualities of this zoom: consistent output, durable, fast / accurate auto-focus! The bokeh is quite nice too, and we find here a rugged and strong construction.
I can say that I'm totally satisfied by its performances !

So far I am pleased with my purchase. Here is a helpful YouTube link on how to remove the lens hood https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RlsBjw7cY9M. At 11M I call it 'twisted fun'. It is amazing how much it can capture even when you are positioned so close. This will complement my Nikon 18-140MM f3.5-5.6 nicely for traveling and landscapes. I especially like the f2.8, which is very unique. The build seems solid, the color is good and the lens is sharp. A great buy! Made in Japan.

Love the wide angle, only issue is that if won't snap a pic 100% of time, it could be my camera but only happens in AF. In MF it always takes the pic with no issue

Best DX Ultrawide

Comments about Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX-II 11-16mm f/2.8 Lens for Nikon F:

This is THE best ultrawide zoom for DX-sensor Nikon cameras. The overall image quality is noticeably better than the aging 12-24mm f/4.0 DX Nikkor. Build quality and focus speed are very good.

You really can't spend less and get even a little bit more value than this as an APS-C lens. I love it for the 77mm filter threads so I can use my square filters. Where is comes up short is the internal lens coatings. It flares in direct sunlight into the lens but not always. You can't see it until you get to post. It's not a deal breaker as I still use it a lot for sunrise and sunsets. If you have trouble spending twice as much - this would be you very best bet. I use it mostly at 11mm. Tripod is required.

It does focus quickly.

Buy It... You'll Love It!

Comments about Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX-II 11-16mm f/2.8 Lens for Nikon F:

I bought the lens to use exclusively for residential real estate interior photos, and it has lived up to my expectations. I researched wide angle lenses for over a month and found several reviews that compared the Tokina 116 to the Nikkor 14-24mm -- and the Tokina won!

I've always been a die-hard Nikon buyer going back to the early 1070's but with the recent purchases of Nikon cameras with stock lens over the past few years, those purchases have tarnished my view on the once coveted "Nikkor lens."

If you're on a budget and need a great wide angle with NO distortion and the sharpest edges possible, then the Tokina 116 is for you! And BTW, I was going to go with a 22mm wide angle, but I'm glad I went with the 11-16mm because I often shoot smaller 14'x12' rooms and this lens is perfect!

Comments about Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX-II 11-16mm f/2.8 Lens for Nikon F:

This is my base lens on my D7100, and it doesn't disappoint. In my case, I'm usually shooting at 11 mm, knowing I'm going to crop in post-processing, but when I need all 11mm it delivers. While I should mention the size of the lens (wide) creates a shadow when using the pop-up flash on the D7100, obviously it's not a problem with my SB800 flash. Sharp enough for me, but I've never taken it head to head with competitors. Focus fast and effective. I'd highly recommend.
