I purchased the first version of this lens from B&H in January. While it was still under the return period the version ii was announced.I returned the original and waited "patiently" for the ii.It took a while but when it was finally announced I think that I was probably one of the first to place an order.I did order it early in the morning on the announced sale day. There was absolutely nothing that I could find wrong with the original but the addition of a motor will come in handy for my back-up D40.I usually take my pictures at night and this lens performs beyond my expectations I'll attach a couple of pics that I have taken with this lens. Bear in mind that I am an amature photographer so the image quality would probably be better in more capable hands

I purchased the newer Tokina 11-16 mm f/2.8 because I was looking for an DX alternative to my Nikkor AF-S 14-24 mm f/2.8 for such occasions where I want to travel lighter or need to attach a filter. It is possible that I expected too much because of the mostly positive reviews I read, and/or that I was too critical in my evaluation of this lens because it is not a Nikon product. Either way, after two exchanges I am still not entirely happy with my third sample but I decided to keep it because it works well for me for landscape and travel photography, which is what I use it for. Also, I know what I've got but don't know what I'll get if I exchange it a third time because every new sample I have had was different from the previous one except for the fact that they all were sharpest at f/5.6-f/9.0 at any focal length.

The first sample was what I would describe as the most "balanced" of the three in terms of resolution. Center sharpness was usable at f/2.8. Border sharpness was not as good as center sharpness at all focal lengths, and very disappointing at 11 mm, especially at f/2.8. The resolution was generally best at f/4 - f/8, particularly at 16 mm. The second sample lacked center sharpness at all apertures and focal lengths, which led me to believe there may have been a focusing problem. My third sample is not usable wide open at any focal length. However, resolution increases remarkably at 4.0, and from f/5.6 - f/11 the lens displays very good to excellent sharpness across the frame at all focal lengths. I am also very pleased with the color rendition.

Even though I am quite satisfied with my lens when I use it in the f/5.6 to f/11 aperture range, I can only give it a 3-star rating because of its underperformance at f/2.8 and - for this product in general - the sample variations.

Comments about Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX-II 11-16mm f/2.8 Lens for Nikon F:

If you have been wanting a good wide angle lens, then this Tokina AT-X 116 Pro DX-11-16 f/2.8 lens is the one you want. I have had this lens for just one week, but, the few shots I have taken with it have been beyond my expectation(s). I mount it on my Nikon D7100, and right out of the camera, the photos are excellent. The color is vibrant, the pictures are quite sharp. I have not found anything I don't like about it, it is an amazing lens, tack sharp. I am so glad I bought it, and I would buy it again, without reservation.

Comments about Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX-II 11-16mm f/2.8 Lens for Nikon F:

I do a lot of landscape photography, particularly from the top of mountains. I wanted a good wide-angle lens that was sharp and didn't have distortion. I've shot a couple of solid adventures with this lens and am very impressed. The image quality is great and the lens distortion is minimal, (an easy fix in lightroom lens correction). The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars, is because of the weight. this is a solid lens and feels like it will last, but is a load when climbing mountains.

Comments about Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX-II 11-16mm f/2.8 Lens for Nikon F:

For some reason it doesn't focus in the Viewfinder on my Nikon D3300. Only works and focuses properly in LiveView.
Spoke with Tokina CA Distributor and I have to send it (with the camera) to them for them to adjust its focus to work properly (under warranty, they just pay shipping back).
So if you don't mind having to possibly go through this, with your specific camera, its a great lens for the least money. Especially if you need a lens capable of shooting wide angle in a low light situation (mine is used mostly to shoot indoor live concert photos).
BTW: If you shoot with LiveView only, you probably won't have any focusing issues. Only Viewfinder focusing is off.
I am assuming that they "will" be able to adjust it as promised once I get the chance to send it to them.

This is the best wide lens you will find for Nikon crop at this price point. Milky Ways, beautiful wide landscapes, all will be yours. Lovely colors at blue hour, f/2.8 aperture, wide enough to do interior/architectural shots too, it's a great lovely lens. Nice starburst pattern too!

Comments about Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX-II 11-16mm f/2.8 Lens for Nikon F:

I purchased this lens rather whimsically and have had no regrets since doing so. This has allowed me to pick up some fun and artistic shots around the office, as well as some interesting angles for portrait work. I'm excited to try it out for sky/galaxy shots once it's clear enough out, and a friend of mine is ordering one soon for real estate work.

The only gripe I have is the manual focus switch. You have to tug down the front focus ring to engage manual focus. It may just be my copy, but sometimes, if the clutch doesn't engage properly, the lens makes a grinding noise when you attempt to focus before it clicks into place and functions. A nuisance and a distraction at worst. Time will tell if it's causing a problem, but aside from that, the lens is solid and works great.

Comments about Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX-II 11-16mm f/2.8 Lens for Nikon F:

I've only shot a few photos with this lens, but so far, I like it. This is my first Tokina lens, so wasn't sure what to expect. It's very solid feeling and I haven't noticed any photo quality issues. Auto-focus works well, although I haven't used it in poor light. Hard to beat the value compared to the much more expensive Nikon lenses. A nice addition to my lens collection. Can't wait to get out and shoot more with it!

Comments about Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX-II 11-16mm f/2.8 Lens for Nikon F:

I use the lens for real estate photography at the 11mm focal length almost exclusively. Apply lens correction in post and walls are perfectly vertical and entire image is tack sharp. It's a solid performer time and time again, reliability A++.

The 2 Tokina super wide angle DX zoom lenses (11-16 F2.8 and 11-20 F2.8) the sharpest super wide angle zoom lenses you can buy for your Nikon DX camera.
This lens is razor sharp even wide open from edge to edge at every focal lengths. The Nikon DX super wide angle lenses (10-24 and 12-24) do not even come close to this lens.

Comments about Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX-II 11-16mm f/2.8 Lens for Nikon F:

I am an amateur with a Nikon D300S needing a wide fast glass. This lens performs as presented. I put it thru its paces without vinyetting getting sharp clear images every time. My only concern was a "tight" fit when mounting this lens when compared to mounting my Nikon lenses.

Finally realizing a nearly completed dream Nikon system at 82 years old. I read a lot of evals on various lens and have wanted this lens for a couple of years. Finally acquired it. I am very pleased with the quality of the lens and well pleased with the purchase experience with B and H. I have not used this lens very much as of yet but am pleased with what I have done. I would definitely buy this lens again.
