This is the most reliable and most quiet drive to use in a small paperback book size of a dual drive RAID1 installation like the Tough Tech Duo, recommended by Jared Platt in his LR Workflow series on CreativeLive. The Hitachi drives and the Wiebe Tough Tech Duo controller have given me total piece of mind from immediate and continuous mirroring of everything I do in Lightroom photo cataloging, selecting and editing. I bought 6 of the drives for off-site backup storage and monthly change-off of drive pairs.

If this drive was not known to fail it would have 5 stars as it is SILENT in operation, incredibly fast in my older 2010 ATA II interface laptop and amazingly fast in my newed gigabyte Tech ATA III based laptop.

I was getting "drive freezes" frequently in hte past 6 months, I thought "virus" or "software faults". .. I work 60 hours a week so Sunday is not a day I think " lets spend hours fixing the computer"

Ultimately windows 10 installed and failed and told me DRIVE ERROR PHYSICAL FAULT ( almost 2 years to the date after purchase )

Ran different drive testing software .... endless errors nad bad sectors, etc ..... now take in to account this was in a laptop that NEVER MOVES as I like laptops because they are silent compared to desktops and I always have it permanently linked to my huge TV SCREE and keyboard and mouse .. the laptop NEVER MOVES.... so the drive never got "broken" though " chucking the laptop around ". I am single and have no kids and nobody enter the computer room, etc.

So... superb drive when it works ( and I am comparing with equivalent Western Digital in dads laptop and my old favorite SEAGATE before they went rapidly down hill with a string of years of failing drives .. .shame, they were best in SCSI back in the 1990s )

So ... supber when working, but personal use and looking at reviews .. the drive has a short life span .. I wonder if they use the same technology as SEAGATE? as this drive performs the same as a SEAGATE.

Works as advertised.

Comments about HGST 1TB Travelstar 2.5" Mobile Hard Drive:

Purchased this to replace a failed HD on my MacBook Pro. It works as advertised. The 7200rpm speed and larger cache did produce a modest boost in performance compared to the original 5400rpm drive.

Great replacement drive

Comments about HGST 1TB Travelstar 2.5" Mobile Hard Drive:

I bought this drive to replace my 2011 Macbook Pro 750GB hard drive that had failed.
It took about 15 minutes to swap out the drive, 10 minutes to restart from a bootable clone back up drive, and start the restore 720 GB of data.
When the back up completed, the machine booted up off of the new drive. All data and applications intact and I had an additional 250 GB of free space available. It has been running fine ever since, and the performance/speed is at least as good as the old drive.

Can't Wait To Buy My Next One

By ANSEL THE ARTIST

Comments about HGST 1TB Travelstar 2.5" Mobile Hard Drive:

I purchased the 1TB Travelstar 2.5" 7200rpm HD as a replacement for my newly purchased 500 GB gaming system. After considerable studying and research, I figured out how to replace the 500 GB drive and enjoyed putting together a quick brochure on doing so.
The Travelstar fits perfectly into enclosure at 9.5mm. Once fully installed, it ran with a noticeable but not distracting hum. I only mention this because after about 3-5 hours usage a day for a week, it now runs silent after initial boot up click. Very affordable and will definitely try a 2TB or higher next time.

Small Size, Big Storage

Comments about HGST 1TB Travelstar 2.5" Mobile Hard Drive:

I purchased this hard drive to store video files that I need to archive. The 1Tb size along with 7200rpm rotation give me the size and speed I needed for the larger video files. I am using it with an external drive caddy and this seems to work fine. I also purchased this drive previously as a second drive in my laptop. It has worked without any problems so far.

Excellent drive!

Comments about HGST 1TB Travelstar 2.5" Mobile Hard Drive:

This drive is exactly what I needed to upgrade my SFF Lenovo. They said I needed a special drive mounting carrier that was unavailable from Lenovo or anyone else... All I had to do was mount it and plug things in. I added a "y" for the SATA power and it already had an extra data outlet on the motherboard for my cables (not included) then I used an ancient drive carrier from an old laptop I had in my junk pile and held it in place with a couple of zip ties. (Just leave a little slack for airflow.) Fired up perfectly on first try. Very fast and noiseless. Great drive with plenty of room for my needs.

Comments about HGST 1TB Travelstar 2.5" Mobile Hard Drive:

Bought the HD due to it's low price, hight RPM 7K,1TB size and on broad encryption. Unfortunately don't expect any info or software to assist you in migrating data or enabling the encryption mode. I just did a fresh install of Lubuntu and will search on their site for how to turn on the encryption.

The physical install is just swapping the HD, making sure the BIOS sees it and then install your OS. If you have data to migrate, you either search theiri support site or consider looking for an HD which includes support for data migration.

Excellent small hard drive. Use with Atomos Ninja 2 for HD video recording. Works great. Note: Do not mount the Ninja 2 on top of the camera if you want to use sound from the camera's built in microphones. You will record the sound of the disc drive spinning. I record sound separately so the camera sound is only a scratch track for sync. during editing.
