After much debate and thorough research on getting a 70-200mm 2.8 lens, I opted to purchase this lens over the Canon 70-200mm IS II series. I figured if it didn't deliver as I heard it did, I would simply return it and get the Canon version. After 20 minutes of shooting at around 6pm with this razor sharp lens in all of the f/stops, I couldn't find a single reason to switch to the Canon version. This lens is sublime. From its solid construction (not as heavy as most people complained it is) to its extremely quick and quite motor while focusing. Focus has been rapid in all the lighting conditions I put it through since that first day of testing. I'm still elated with the new VC technology (Vibration Control) and the fact that the zoom ring was repositioned to being nearest to the front edge of the lens on this upgrade to the Tamron 70-200mm 2.8 series.

I have not experienced any softness at 200mm as I have read in other reviews but I will continue to look for that. Maybe I have been blessed with a perfect copy :). This lens renders superb color throughout the picture. This lens is much more than I imagined it to be using it on my Canon 7D. I have tested the VC in video mode and I'm blown away as well by the stabilization or vibration control. AMAZING quality all around!!!.

I love the lens cap design and the hood just fits like a glove and is superior to lots of hoods I have for other lenses. I love the fact that you can actually adjust the manual focus ring while in automatic mode as well. It allows for great video shooting effects.

Not only would I recommend this lens, I will state a few reasons why anyone on the fence about getting one of these should go right ahead and purchase your copy. This lens is cost efficient. You will not find any lens out there with this range, less expensive or one that will deliver all of the qualities this lens possesses.

Although I have never tested Canon's latest 70-200 series for more than a couple shots at the store. I have found the Canon latest version to be way pricey, much heavier and bulky when I mounted it to my camera at the store. This Tamron version is far more streamlined (reasonably sized) and the color being the same as my camera makes me feel more safe and comfortable walking around with it. The Canon version would make me nervous as it is outstanding and most everyone would recognize it to be the L series Canon expensive lens which would make me a target to be robbed. However, I would have returned this copy for the Canon latest version if this Tamron version wasn't delivering, but happily this won't be the case as I am extremely happy with Tamron's latest version. Very happy I took this route first. I figured any slight softness I may detect could be adjusted while editing my pics so it is worth giving Tamron a shot.

Bottom line, this lens is worth more than it costs and I would recommend it 100 percent as it has surpassed all of my expectations. Super excited to work with this lens in my photography business. This is a great investment and I can see why this lens will be my new goto lens :)

I added some unedited pics I took on the first day of testing :)

Quality build, optics are amazing. Lens was amazing but had focus issues with my 6D. The focus was erratic and failed focus 3 or 10 shots. Wanted to love the lens, but the focus didn't cut it. I wish Tamron would fix this issues. If they did it would be an awesome lens.

Comments about Tamron SP 70-200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD Zoom Lens for Canon:

I have always wanted and needed this focal range and read all the reviews of the Tamron vs. the Canon version. Tamron usually came out on top and the price was right. I'll never look back! It's a wonderful lens and sharp as a tack. A bit on the heavy side but well worth the effort. It's quickly become my favorite lens. I also use it with a 1.4x Kenko Teleconverter with great results.

I use this lens for high school sports and other needs. Does a great job fast and accurate. One design change would be to have the zoom control closer to the camera instead of the end of the barrel.

Comments about Tamron SP 70-200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD Zoom Lens for Canon:

Wanted a 70-200 2.8 for years now. Biggest obstacle was cash. And, I didn't want to sacrifice quality. I read all the reviews that compared the Canon, Sigma and Tamron. I also rented them to see. Obviously, I landed on the Tamron and couldn't be happier.

Their are still nay-sayers that claim the Canon is far superior. All three lens win out on various specs but not to a point that it makes the decision obvious. So, how then did I settle on the Tamron. 1) Price. An extra 1K in my pocket is a good thing. 2) HATE the white body on the Canon. It's like waving a flag when I'm shoot events. 3) I own two other Tamron lenses and am sold on their quality.

Comments about Tamron SP 70-200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD Zoom Lens for Canon:

I haven't used the lens a lot yet but I have found the image quality to be what the commercial reviewers have said. The auto focus is fast and accurate. Color is great. It is a bit heavy but that's to be expected for an f2.8 lens; it has to be bigger. The lens feels very solid. Everything moves smoothly. I carried it for 6 hours on a black rapid double strap with no problems. Getting the rebate from Tamron was actually easy. I don't need an all weather lens, so for nearly $1000 less (after rebate) than the Canon it made sense to me.

I love Tamron's Canon equivalent lenses like this one and the 24-70mm 2.8. The VC is smooth. The price is right. Sharp. Fast. 6 year warranty. And great phone support too. I'm a fan.

Comments about Tamron SP 70-200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD Zoom Lens for Canon:

I bought this lens and regret it dearly.
It focus VERY slowly on my Canon 6D and even once it does, focus is still a hit and miss.
On my Canon 80D body the lens won't focus at all when in live view or movie mode.
There is a firmware update available, but now I have to ship out the lens and pay for it.
DON'T DO IT. Go and buy a 1st party lens instead.

Comments about Tamron SP 70-200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD Zoom Lens for Canon:

I've owned the Canon F2.8 L IS version of this lens before, so I'm comparing the Tamron to it. The Tamron seems to be a little sharper wide open (2.8) than the Canon at (2.8) but the Canon seems a little sharper from (5.6 to 11). Both lens seem to handle about the same. I also still use the Canon 70-200mm F4L IS due to it being smaller and lighter than the f2.8 chooses. The Tamron 70-200mm f2.8 is great in any low light situation...

Comments about Tamron SP 70-200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD Zoom Lens for Canon:

This lens is built like a tank. It does have a bit of weight to it. I personally don't like battery grips on a camera body, so for those like me you may find that it at first feels a bit front heavy when using it. It does not take very long to adjust to this. The quality of images are tack sharp with excellent color rendition. The auto focus is quite strong and fast as well as being very quiet. For shooting outdoor events and weddings, you can't go wrong. The weather sealing has held up like castle wall so far. The first wedding I shot with this lens was a beach wedding in light rain. It worked perfectly. This lens does struggle a bit in poorly lit situations with the accuracy of its auto focus. I usually couple it with a speedlite when the situation permits and the IR focus assist beams remedies this issue. The Canon and Nikon versions are just a versatile and well built. However, this lens offers image quality and function that is on par with both of them, and comes with a much lower price tag. Whether you use Canon or Nikon, do yourself a favor and pick lthis lens if you are in the market for a 70-200mm.

Comments about Tamron SP 70-200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD Zoom Lens for Canon:

I've had the lens for about 2 weeks now and it's amazing. the shots you get are just as great as any other 70-200mm lens and sometimes even better. I'm using it on a Canon EOS M3 and it does great. the auto focus can be a bit slow at times, and sometimes can't even get focus when the subject is right in the field of view. besides this it's amazing. I would definitely recommend it to a friend

I purchased this lens instead of the Canon 70-200mm because of the price and size. I am extremely happy with the lens. The quality and performance blew me away. The stabilization and focus was flawless and allowed me to handhold shot down to 1/30.

Comments about Tamron SP 70-200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD Zoom Lens for Canon:

I bought this lens along with the Tamron 24-70 2.8 lens. When i got this lens in it was packaged very good by B&H but when i opened it and put it on my new 6D it would not focus. I then tried it on my 7D and nothing, no auto or manual focus. My other lenses focused fine on both cameras. I called B&H and they emailed me a RMA slip and I had it by the time I got off of the phone. I sent it back in and payed the difference for a Canon 70-200 f2.8L with IS. B&H got my returned lens in on Tuesday and had my new one shipped out the next day.

Comments about Tamron SP 70-200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD Zoom Lens for Canon:

I use this for video on my T5i camera and believe it or not on my EOS M. It looks a little silly on the EOS M but works really well. It's my first non canon lens I've purchased. I own the canon 50mm, 85mm. I've used the cannon 70-200mm and think it a great lens. This is just as great and over $500 less then the canon. It was a no-brainer for me. If you're on the fence about this or the canon and are going to be using it for video I can say based on my experience, just get it, I'm happy I did!

I am using this lens as a portrait lens. I really needed a lens that could maintain its aperture throughout its zoom range but I do not have the funding to purchase the Canon lens I thought I wanted. I am happy to say the lens quality seems great and the picture quality is exactly what I wanted. I would like a little better bokeh but it does a pretty nice job.

More time will tell its full potential but I am happy to have this lens.
