After much debate and thorough research on getting a 70-200mm 2.8 lens, I opted to purchase this lens over the Canon 70-200mm IS II series. I figured if it didn't deliver as I heard it did, I would simply return it and get the Canon version. After 20 minutes of shooting at around 6pm with this razor sharp lens in all of the f/stops, I couldn't find a single reason to switch to the Canon version. This lens is sublime. From its solid construction (not as heavy as most people complained it is) to its extremely quick and quite motor while focusing. Focus has been rapid in all the lighting conditions I put it through since that first day of testing. I'm still elated with the new VC technology (Vibration Control) and the fact that the zoom ring was repositioned to being nearest to the front edge of the lens on this upgrade to the Tamron 70-200mm 2.8 series.

I have not experienced any softness at 200mm as I have read in other reviews but I will continue to look for that. Maybe I have been blessed with a perfect copy :). This lens renders superb color throughout the picture. This lens is much more than I imagined it to be using it on my Canon 7D. I have tested the VC in video mode and I'm blown away as well by the stabilization or vibration control. AMAZING quality all around!!!.

I love the lens cap design and the hood just fits like a glove and is superior to lots of hoods I have for other lenses. I love the fact that you can actually adjust the manual focus ring while in automatic mode as well. It allows for great video shooting effects.

Not only would I recommend this lens, I will state a few reasons why anyone on the fence about getting one of these should go right ahead and purchase your copy. This lens is cost efficient. You will not find any lens out there with this range, less expensive or one that will deliver all of the qualities this lens possesses.

Although I have never tested Canon's latest 70-200 series for more than a couple shots at the store. I have found the Canon latest version to be way pricey, much heavier and bulky when I mounted it to my camera at the store. This Tamron version is far more streamlined (reasonably sized) and the color being the same as my camera makes me feel more safe and comfortable walking around with it. The Canon version would make me nervous as it is outstanding and most everyone would recognize it to be the L series Canon expensive lens which would make me a target to be robbed. However, I would have returned this copy for the Canon latest version if this Tamron version wasn't delivering, but happily this won't be the case as I am extremely happy with Tamron's latest version. Very happy I took this route first. I figured any slight softness I may detect could be adjusted while editing my pics so it is worth giving Tamron a shot.

Bottom line, this lens is worth more than it costs and I would recommend it 100 percent as it has surpassed all of my expectations. Super excited to work with this lens in my photography business. This is a great investment and I can see why this lens will be my new goto lens :)

I added some unedited pics I took on the first day of testing :)

I bought this lens and regret it dearly.
It focus VERY slowly on my Canon 6D and even once it does, focus is still a hit and miss.
On my Canon 80D body the lens won't focus at all when in live view or movie mode.
There is a firmware update available, but now I have to ship out the lens and pay for it.
DON'T DO IT. Go and buy a 1st party lens instead.

Amazing lens + great price!

Comments about Tamron SP 70-200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD Zoom Lens for Canon:

Great lens! Sharp images, solid built, silent AF and great VC.
I really recommend this lens to anyone. It's half the price of the Canon and has nothing to envy from it.
The VC and f2.8 is really helpful in low light situations (I do weddings) and overall quality of the lens is great.
I use it with a 6D.
I've read a lot of reviews before buying in it and I'm very happy with the decision.
This is your 70-200! ;)

Indoor shots, nature outdoor, portraits outdoors.
Very sharp, seems to render a little more punch to color than my previous Sigma. Focus is quick, and very quiet. No micro-focus adjustment needed on my Canon 7D.

No cons yet, understanding that these aren't light or short lenses in this class.

Comments about Tamron SP 70-200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD Zoom Lens for Canon:

I am a amateur photographer that focus on sports, travel and outdoor photography. I brought this lens to capture my daughters Taekwondo matches. It is a fast pace action sport performed under bad lighting (without a flash). I was looking for an affordable solution for this environment. My test shots at the TKD school were sharper then anything that that I was able to capture in the past. I was able to freeze Tornado kicks mid air with great sharpness.

I also took this lens to my daughters orchestra concert. Again shooting in a poorly lit gym, from the back row of the bleachers, and hand holding. I was able to take sharp pictures that I was never able to obtain in the past.

I recommend the Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 SP DI VC USD to any parent that want to show off their kids. Great Bang for the Buck!

Looking for a replacement for my Canon 70-300L for low light wildlife and walk around Canon 24-100L. So far it looks like I have a winner. This copy seems spot on in all categories. Even though Tamron tech support says a TC isn't recommended, I'll take a chance and get a 1.4 sometime soon for a tad more reach. I can't affort $[$] for the Canon 400 dedicated telephoto/macro.

Comments about Tamron SP 70-200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD Zoom Lens for Canon:

I am an avid birder and hobby nature photographer. I have a Canon EOS 50D with an EF telephoto lens. I often zoom out but the results are too soft. The aperture is small when zoomed out. Many missed opportunities.

I have not had this Tamron lens for long, but I took bird pictures at dusk and was amazed at the results. Many of my bird pictures are under the trees and in the shadows. I bracket every shot.

The drive is silent and fast, and the build is good quality. It is a heavy lens, but that comes with the territory.

I have not compared this to the Canon L lens. It may be a good alternative at a better price.

Comments about Tamron SP 70-200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD Zoom Lens for Canon:

The only reason I gave this 4 out of 5 stars is because it is soft at 200mm. Pros: Light weight Fast auto focus Sharp over most of the covered range Great priceCons: Not as sharp as the Canon version II Auto focus is a little slower than the Canon version IIIf you are looking to get a good lens you will not be sorry getting this one. I did return mine but the main reasons are that the Canon is a little sharper across the focal range and the second reason was that the Canon was on sale and the price difference was almost cut in half. So for me it was worth the extra $ for the slightly better preformance.

Comments about Tamron SP 70-200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD Zoom Lens for Canon:

I'm not a photog so I use it for video only of weddings and events and corporate work. The IS is simply amazing. I can literally shoot all day from a monopod on a FF canon mark3. I have the older tamron without IS and they match beautifully in post. Still love the old one but this is my 'go-to' lens because of the IS. Very minimal drift which can be inherent in these IS lenses on a tripod. Or just turn off the IS if on a tripod. Another plus is they removed the AF/MF click slider that the old version had which is very annoying for someone who doesn't use AF. Now it's only a little switch on the side and I just keep it in manual and forget it. And they put the zoom ring in front and moved the focus ring in back which makes more sense. Can't think of anything I don't like except that it has no macro but this isn't a macro lens. Worth every penny.

Comments about Tamron SP 70-200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD Zoom Lens for Canon:

I have used this lens for about a month now and gain a greater appreciation for it with every use. My copy is razor sharp, with minimal distortion at 70mm and almost none at 200mm. The vibration control, or image stabilization system works very well. Handheld shooting at 70-200mm is effortless. This latest Tamron is a new class of lenses for this third-party maker. The construction and finish are top notch, and this lens is also lighter and shorter than the equivalent Canon brand. Early testing by a reputable rental house has shown it to be sharper at telephoto than the Canon seriesII version. To date,I'm extremely pleased with this product.
