I have a Canon T4i and was interested in purchasing a macro lens to photograph flowers. I compared the Canon L series 100MM lens to the Tamron and could find no appreciable difference, other than the price. So far I have been very impressed with the quality of the photos. I was also impressed with the six year warranty. I would recommend, regardless of what brand you choose, choke down the additional cost of the image stabilization feature if you plan to shoot without a tripod. The difference is amazing and well worth the money in the long run.

I have a Tamron 150-600 and love it so was excited to get another but the difference between this lens and the Canon 100 macro is huge. Tamron picture quality is fine but Canons is better in my opinion but what is indisputable is the Tamron autofocus is much slower and noisy - I feel the Canon is well worth the extra cost

Comments about Tamron 90mm f/2.8 SP Di MACRO 1:1 VC USD Lens for Canon:

Tried this lens as soon as it arrived and was very impressed with the images: extremely sharp, pleasing bokeh!

Macro was,as expected, hard to get enough depth of field. But varying ISO and f-stop yielded great pix.

Tried the lens for general (not macro) shots too. Wonderful sharpness.

I was worried that is was spending too much, but I'd definitely buy this lens again.

Thank you Tamron!

Comments about Tamron 90mm f/2.8 SP Di MACRO 1:1 VC USD Lens for Canon:

Having wanted a macro lens for a long time, and after doing a great deal of research, I chose the Tamron 90mm f/2.8 SP Di Macro 1:1 VC USD lens for Canon. It's great choice and works perfectly with my Canon Rebel T5. I find that using a small tripod and remote shutter release is necessary for those very close shots, to minimize any I have used extension tubes with my 50 mm lens, but that combination just didn't achieve the sharpness and magnification that I was looking to do, since I love taking flower and nature photos. While I'm still learning to use this lens, I can say that it provides excellent sharpness and magnification. I use it mainly in manual mode, and autofocus does hunt around a bit. One thing I notice is that with this lens, my camera battery needs more frequent charging-could be the way I'm using it. All in all, I recommend this lens for anyone looking to take up macro photography. You'll be amazed with the results.

Last year I attended a seminar put on by Tamron, loved the lens they allowed me to use. Was finally in a position to purchase one, and I must say I'm having a wonderful experience learning about Macro Photography using this lens. Having used other macro lenses this one exceeds all the others. Love, love, love it.

An excellent macro/product photography/portrait lens

Comments about Tamron 90mm f/2.8 SP Di MACRO 1:1 VC USD Lens for Canon:

Tamron has been making excellent 90mm macros for at least four decades... and this is not a disappointment. It gives very low vignetting, excellent bokeh, excellent sharpness, and doesn't seem prone to flare. What could one complain about, especially at the relatively low price this sells for?

Well, there are a few things. The VC doesn't seem very effective, or perhaps I should say the IBIS in my Sony A7II does better. It also seems to make AF hunt quite easily on both my Canon 5D IV and Sony A7II (using Metabones adapter), although macros are known to have that problem in general. It's also quite a large lens with the front element very up front, making it usually even larger thanks to needing the big bayonet-on hood.

In sum, it is an awesome lens for macros, product photography, and portraits at a very nice price... so that's plenty to forgive any shortcomings.

4 stars cause there is always room for improvement, otherwise this is a very nice lens. For an amerature picture taker, this lens is plenty sharp ( very sharp actually) and represents a great value. Build quality seems good, although I have only had this lens for a month or so.

I have always wanted a macro lens and went back and fourth between this and the Canon 100mmL IS. I decided on this one and I couldn't be happier! This lens is increibly sharp, both for macro work and portraiture. It's lightweight and doesn't take up much room in my bag. Honestly, I don't think there's much wrong with this lens.

            Macro and general photography, portraits.

The VC function should NIT be on as default. Turn it on only when your shutter speed is slow (below 1/100th on a full frame, and it will perform well down to 1/10th second. It takes less than a second for the VC to "lock on", and after you release the shutter, allow 3 seconds for it to release (the manual is confusing) before you take another shot. Leave VC off while on a tripod, or when shooting in good light conditions where the shutter speed is faster than 1/100th for a full frame; otherwise, the VC will cause blurred and soft images. So defualt position is off unless you need it!!
