This is not the sharpest Micro 4/3 lens by a long shot, but it is by far the smallest! As a walk-around lens for shooting during the day, this is a very fun piece of gear—My GX1 fits easily in my coat pocket with the body cap lens mounted, and the f/8 aperture and fixed focus have encouraged me to spend more time on subject matter and composition. The construction is solid, and no-frills can encourage creativity: simply set the camera in aperture priority, and go. I've found that this lens works particularly well for high-ISO monochrome images, where for me the graininess from going above 32000 can become more a part of the aesthetic than an annoyance.

This lens is inexpensive for a reason. The sharpness and slowness and lack of auto-focus are notable—don't expect results on par with the Panasonic pancake lenses! However, my chief frustration with the BCL 15mm is EXIF data, not optics. Because there's no electronic contacts in the lens, the photos are recorded without any aperture or focal length data. It's a minor gripe, but I like sorting my photos by EXIF data so adding that back in with ExifTool on PC or ExifChanger on Mac is an irritating extra step.

All in all, this is a cheap and sub-professional-grade lens, but it's also the only lens I've had with me constantly since I bought it.

I bought this lens on a whim. It was Micro 4/3, cheap, and cute. Its performance is mediocre. I used it with my OM-D to photograph a July 4th parade; didn't want to carry a variety of lenses. While wearing prescription sun glasses, I noticed black smudgy shadows in the viewfinder, so I ended up composing on the LCD screen. Got some nice shots.

Comments about 15mm f/8.0 Body Cap Lens (Black):

Ok so this is a variation on pin hole photography and is simple and kind of funky.
Actually like it just for the simplicity and art factor.

Sure it's not like a real lens but more of a throw back to the 19th century. Kinda Campy.

Cheap but surprising

By Missing Link Studios

Comments about 15mm f/8.0 Body Cap Lens (Silver):

I bought this because it is listed as the worst lens ever. I found it fun to play with and great way to challenge yourself. It is not to bad when shooting video and makes my backup camera the G7 really tiny. For the price pick one up and try something out of your comfort zone, push yourself and be better.

I bought this hoping t have a cheap wild angle lens but everything was blurry whenever I used the lens. I tried everything from putting on auto focus, messing with the ISO and exposure, but it was still blurry and unusable.

Comments about 15mm f/8.0 Body Cap Lens (Black):

What lens cap is better than one that doubles as a lens? Now obviously you're now going to be shooting any nighttime photography with this guy; it's just body protection with another purpose. If you keep your camera body with a lens cap and have this lens on, then you can pull it out in a jiffy and snap in those "emergency situations". The aperature is controlled manually by a small dial on the front of the lens, which goes from completely open to completely shut.
I've put this on my GH4 and it looks fine, no extra weight added. The construction is good so I feel as safe as I would with the regular body cap. And for the price, no complaints here.

Perfect lens for what it is. You're not going to get amazingly crisp, stellar photos, but you will get high quality images that can be shared with family and friends.

I use this instead of the standard body cap that came with my E-M10, and makes snapping quick photos a breeze.

Comments about 15mm f/8.0 Body Cap Lens (Black):

I had hoped to discover a whole new world of photography unburdened by bourgeois concerns of sharpness where one could focus (excuse the pun) on the purer elements of the image. But it didn't quite work out that way.The best I can say about the image quality is that it can produce web-sized (1024x768) images which appear very sharp if you apply a judicious amount of sharpening. However, with careful observation of the web-sized image you can see the blue fringing caused by this lens.Viewed at 100%, except for a very tiny area of surprisingly high central sharpness, the image is very soft. Plus there is blue fringing/chromatic aberration of some sort that doesn't get corrected very well by the tools available in Adobe Camera Raw or Lightroom. On the positive side, the lens has good contrast, and simple barrel distortion that corrects easily by setting the slider in Lightroom/ACR to 3.The focusing lever locks into place at a "hyperfocal" distance, but for maximum infinity sharpness you need to move the lever a little bit closer to the infinity mark. Although maybe I shouldn't be worrying about maximum sharpness in a lens that's so soft to begin with. There have been online reviews saying that the lens is "fun," but my impression is that the reviewers found it fun for a few hours, or maybe a week or two at most, and then never used it again. This lens was a good idea, if only Olympus had made it optically better, and with a better focusing lever.

This is the second-best body cap you can get for your Olympus PEN. It is also a decent lens. You won't be happy pixel-peeping the images you get from this lens, but you also get a body cap that is ready to shoot whenever you are.

Comments about 15mm f/8.0 Body Cap Lens (Silver):

This lens is an absolute bargain for $[$]. Replace your body cap with this and you'll have a fixed aperture f/8 lens ready to roll whenever you grab for your camera. This will make your M 4/3 body extremely portable and provide you with the functionality to take decent pictures without changing lenses. You won't get the low light performance of a prime, you won't get the sharpness of a standard lens, you won't get the reach of a zoom. But that's not what you buy this lens for. You buy it to have something fun to play with without needing to remove the body cap. The image quality isn't amazing, but it's not terrible either. Attached is a picture I shot with this while walking around my campus. At the end of the day, this thing is just plain fun. Olympus has served the Micro 4/3 community well by providing a body cap that surprisingly takes decent pictures. Through this thing on and forget about it. When you have to pull out your camera for a quick shot, you'll thank me.

Comments about 15mm f/8.0 Body Cap Lens (Black):

I have been using this lens on my E-PM2 and am satisfied with it.
I edit my photos with Lightroom and use the lens profile for the Sigma 10-20mm to correct vignetting and CA and my photos look great on FlickR.
                              Its simplicity is its strength.
