This Profoto Speedring attaches Profoto modifers like softboxes and beauty dishes to your B1 or D1 flash. You'll need one of these Speedrings for each B1 or D1 flash that you modify with anything more sophisticated than an umbrella. Do not buy this Speedring if you have a different brand of flash than Profoto. The attachment is a friction fit that's tightened by snapping a latch. It works well and the attached modifier is secure. Also unique to the Profoto system is the color-coding to help you recognize which holes receive the rods from your modifier. For example, there are four red holes for use with Profoto rectangular soft boxes, which have red-tipped rods. Similarly, there are eight green holes for use with a Profoto octabox, which has green-tipped rods. Given that different modifiers have different rods for mounting, this system is simple but quite helpful on location. I was disappointed in the Speedring finish. Several of the wires in the Speedring's latching belt had been trimmed off sloppily, leaving sharp edges that can tear skin.

This does exactly what it's meant to, and it does it perfectly. It's a very comfortable light modification system and is practically bomb-proof.

The mediocre review stems from the cost. Now granted, I made this purchase on the corporate dime. But the fact that I just spent $15K on lights and another $2K on Profoto Heat Resistant Modifiers, I would've thought something simple like this might've been included somewhere along the way.

I love the superior products that Profoto gives us, but the overriding brand experience has been the nickel-&-diming sales strategy they seem to favor.

Does the job. It's sturdier than most, well constructed. It's expensive, of course, but you own Profotos so you already know that.

Comments about RFi Speedring for Profoto Flash Heads:

As always, Profoto is the best. Speedings work as advertised. You can't go wrong with Profoto. It hurts when you buy it because it's not cheap, but it feels good for the rest of your life as it's top quality. I love the Speedrings. I have three of them now.

A lot less complicated than other speed rings the ease of attaching the soft box or beauty dish make them worth the price.

Like all Profoto pieces - expensive but well built. Solid speed ring. Easy color coding. Once you break your softbox/octa poles a little - easy to use! Holds steady and perfect for D1 kit.

Comments about RFi Speedring for Profoto Flash Heads:

Solid build, lots of metal; this thing is built to last. Notably heavier and more robust than the OCF Speedring. I use this with a Profoto 5' Octa on a Profoto B1 head. It's a solid combination.

Necessary, but costly

Comments about RFi Speedring for Profoto Flash Heads:

Got a brand new RFi softbox and want to actually be able to use it on your Profoto head? Well, you're gonna have to shell out some more cash, because of course it's not included with the softbox. Why? Because Profoto, that's why. Built sturdy and fits with nearly all Profoto modifiers. Sometimes the locking mechanism gets a bit askew, but that's a minor issue and can be easily remedied on the fly.

Essential Part for Profoto softboxes

By Mark

Comments about RFi Speedring for Profoto Flash Heads:

The Speedring fits the Profoto B1 (and others) with a rubber ring that can be tensioned with a simple catch. As such it is easy to apply, align and tighten and then remove. The design and materials are robust. The color coding makes softbox assembly easy. The softbox rods go in and are removed easily.

Comments about RFi Speedring for Profoto Flash Heads:

I"m not sure but I have this speeding but it's not exactly speedy. I use it with my 4 refi and it's hard really hard to get off and on. I travel a lot so I have to break it down and it's very difficult to get the rods out of the speedring holes. If it's a speedring I think it's miss labeled it is a ring but it's not speedy.

Comments about RFi Speedring for Profoto Flash Heads:

Great quality, never fails. You need one if you want to use a softbox. I have one for each one of my RFi softboxes and it's alway on. I don't like to fold and storage my softboxes, I don't like to take apart the speedring, I always have them ready to use in my studio. The ring rotates as you need and it has color marks to guide you. I know they are expensive, but I recommend to buy one for each one of your softboxes.

Other than being overpriced, this is great...does exactly what it's supposed to do. Great quality, so you get what you pay for. Just seems silly for this type of item.

Comments about RFi Speedring for Profoto Flash Heads:

As everyone has said, this speedring is necessary to attach any modifiers (of the Prophoto persuasion) to your B1 location kit. It has a study construction but the materials response to your direction with ease. For example, closing the latch doesn't involve wrestling the entire light. I'm satisfied with the performance and will continue to use Prophoto.
