The Sigma 17-70mm F2.8-4 Zoom I recently purchased for my Canon SL1 focused in front of the viewfinder's indicated focus points. I had the choice of sending the lens and camera body to Sigma for adjustment, or doing it myself with the USB Dock. The Sigma USB Dock worked as advertised to adjust the focus points to the focus points indicated in the camera's viewfinder. This Dock only works on a few select Sigma lenses. See the Sigma website to see which lenses are supported. I would recommend buying only the supported Sigma Lenses as the others will not allow user adjustability with the Dock. Just download the free operating software from Sigma. The software is very easy to use. It provides four focus distance ranges at four different focal lengths. This equates to 16 adjustment points. The adjustments on my lens varied from each other at the various points so the number of adjustment points are very necessary. The results of the adjustments can only be verified by taking test pictures and most probably further adjusting to fine tune the focus. It is a time consuming process, but offers the very real potential of better focusing than that provided by sending the lens to Sigma for adjustment. After all, how much time will they spend on your lens, and will you have to send it back again if it needs further adjustment? The Sigma USB Dock is Highly recommended!

I'm still not sure how happy I am with this, and maybe it's more because of my lens than this dock. As others have pointed out, this probably won't fix an issue where your lens sometimes focuses correctly at a specific distance, but sometimes does not. I think my Sigma 18-35 f/1.8 was having trouble at multiple distances before I performed the firmware upgrade, and now seems to be doing it only at one tested distance after the upgrade, which is obviously an improvement. I went through the steps to try focusing at specific distances and zooms based on the software, and it looks like making any manual adjustments seems to be pointless because, at the distance & zoom where I'm having the issue, it's sporadic. I can have the camera on a tripod pointing at a poster with well defined large text and half the time, it will auto focus correctly, and half the time it's off.

Overall, I think the lens is better than it was, but I still have to see what happens in the real world.

The reason for 3 stars is that it seems a little overpriced for what it is.

I have tried it once to see if I had the latest firmware for the lens and it indicated that I have the latest update.
If I find the lens needs improving I'll use it again.

Great tool for my Sigma Art lens!

Comments about Sigma USB Dock for Canon EF-Mount Lenses:

• I use this dock to manage my Sigma Art 50mm f/1.4 lens (which I also recommend among 50mm lenses available for use with Canon EOS). This useful tool allows me to manage my lens, including important things like autofocus microadjustments to get tack-sharp accurancy.
• What I like about this dock? It is very easy to use and easy to afford. You literally just go to the download page and you can get the software to use it with. It's very minimalistic. Straight to the point. It comes with a cap. There is a reason behind that. Like all things you connect to lenses, it can collect very much undesired dust if left unprotected. Keep that dock clean.
• What I don't like about it… Nada. Nothing. It's a neat product and if you own a Sigma lens that works with it, you should get it to make the best of your system. =]

Buy it if you use relevant Sigma lens

Comments about Sigma USB Dock for Canon EF-Mount Lenses:

I ordered the Sigma 150-600mm Contemporary lens from B&H, but didn't immediately order the docking station. After looking at some reviews that suggested getting the USB Dock with the lens I went back onto the B&H website and placed the order. It was in time to come in the box with the lens. It was a simply process to download the software from Sigma, plug in the USB Dock, attach the lens as though I was attaching it to the camera, and checking for any updates to the firmware. It is a great way to keep the lens up to date without having to send it back to Sigma. I love the idea of it.

Sigma Dock System

Comments about Sigma USB Dock for Canon EF-Mount Lenses:

if you're a pro, a pro\am, or serious hobbyist and have bought into Sigma's new line of lenses, the "dock" is a must have. The ability to customize your lens, or calibrate your lens, sitting next to your PC using the "dock", is the best thing since sliced bread.
I'm glad I bought one with my Sigma 150-600mm "C" lens. It'll make your day.

If you own a Sigma ART lens you might as well have the dock. Plugged it in and updated firmware in a couple minutes. Works perfectly although I haven't done any micro focus adjustments with it.

Not only do you not have to download an update for a lens but you can make adjustments to a lens the way you want it to work and not send the lens back to the factory! WOW ! AND the Price $59. So who's lenses are you going to buy? It downloads and installs the updates after looking itself at the Sigma site you just plug and play!!! You can adjust any and all focal points on any Sigma Lens!!!

My 70D was not focusing correctly with my Sigma 150-600. I was able to fine tune and now my bird pictures are tack sharp. The program searches for updates each time you connect a lens, but you just learn to deal with it. You have no choice on the distance the corrections are made at, it is pre-set. I had to change my settings when I bought an 80D. Works great!

Comments about Sigma USB Dock for Canon EF-Mount Lenses:

Out of the box, my 150-600mm was pretty good with short focal lengths, but became increasingly short of focus as focal lengths increased. Now my lens is spot on.
I'm giving only 4 stars because the calibration procedure is not quick and dirty. You have to take repeated test shots are four distances, using four focal lengths, for a total of 16 different test shots.

However, patience and meticulous attention to detail will be rewarded. My DOF is right in the center of my focus point at all distances, and focal lengths.

Sigma had a firmware up grade on my 150-600mm sport lens. After down loading their software for the Dock, I down loaded the upgrade, in less than a minute, to the lens. The Dock did a great job and saved sending the Lens in for the upgrade. A good deal for a compatable Sigma Lens
