The Sigma 17-70mm F2.8-4 Zoom I recently purchased for my Canon SL1 focused in front of the viewfinder's indicated focus points. I had the choice of sending the lens and camera body to Sigma for adjustment, or doing it myself with the USB Dock. The Sigma USB Dock worked as advertised to adjust the focus points to the focus points indicated in the camera's viewfinder. This Dock only works on a few select Sigma lenses. See the Sigma website to see which lenses are supported. I would recommend buying only the supported Sigma Lenses as the others will not allow user adjustability with the Dock. Just download the free operating software from Sigma. The software is very easy to use. It provides four focus distance ranges at four different focal lengths. This equates to 16 adjustment points. The adjustments on my lens varied from each other at the various points so the number of adjustment points are very necessary. The results of the adjustments can only be verified by taking test pictures and most probably further adjusting to fine tune the focus. It is a time consuming process, but offers the very real potential of better focusing than that provided by sending the lens to Sigma for adjustment. After all, how much time will they spend on your lens, and will you have to send it back again if it needs further adjustment? The Sigma USB Dock is Highly recommended!

I'm still not sure how happy I am with this, and maybe it's more because of my lens than this dock. As others have pointed out, this probably won't fix an issue where your lens sometimes focuses correctly at a specific distance, but sometimes does not. I think my Sigma 18-35 f/1.8 was having trouble at multiple distances before I performed the firmware upgrade, and now seems to be doing it only at one tested distance after the upgrade, which is obviously an improvement. I went through the steps to try focusing at specific distances and zooms based on the software, and it looks like making any manual adjustments seems to be pointless because, at the distance & zoom where I'm having the issue, it's sporadic. I can have the camera on a tripod pointing at a poster with well defined large text and half the time, it will auto focus correctly, and half the time it's off.

Overall, I think the lens is better than it was, but I still have to see what happens in the real world.

The reason for 3 stars is that it seems a little overpriced for what it is.

Works the way it should

It's definitely not the easiest to do all the micro adjustments with this thing but it's definitely worth it. The time you put into adjusting your lens is worth the reward

Works well

It does work well, but it takes a bit of work to set your gear up, take a series of test shots at different distances & apertures, and then translate this into adjustments. But it's a great thing to have if you use Sigma Art lenses (and sport lenses as well, I just don't own any.)

I have the Sigma18-35mm F1.8. I used it on my canon SL1 and it was front focusing on all ranges when focusing with the viewfinder (perfect focus with live view). After I calibrate the lens with the Sigma USB Dock and its free software. Now my lens is perfect on auto-focus.

This came as a "free" accessory when purchasing the Sigma 150-600mm. It allows for "fine tuning" of the lens to match your needs. NOT a mandatory item, but it could be useful, especially once I get to use the lens more, and see where I might need to make adjustments...such as in focusing distance, etc...

Great addition to my Sigma 150-600 sport lens. Allowing custom features is a real benefit. I have one custom set on quicker focusing for moving wildlife, the other custom setting for richer color.
