I am using this microphone with an iPad Air @. The microphone is attached via the iOgrapher for iPad. You need to have a trs female to try male adaptor to plug the microphone into you iPad mini plug input.

This microphone works very well and creates a wonderful full sound for videos created with the iPad.

I also have the Rode NTG 2 Shotgun microphone. This VideoMic compares very favorably with the more expensive NTG2.

For a quick interview and a small budget this mic is a great backup boom for the price. Of course there are better mic's out there. This one feels cheap (plastic) but what can you expect for $[$]. It's extremely sensitive to direction and distance so it's best for close interviews. Impressed with the sound quality. Not impressed with the 8th inch connector. I'd rather the cable be independent from the unit. I've been having some issues with connection to my Canon 5D Mark ii. I'm not sure if it's the connection or the unit itself but I'll get levels but two minutes later all I hear is static on my clips. If the chord was independent I could test other ones to at least find out myself if it's a bad chord or if I need to send the mic in.

Comments about Rode VideoMic with Rycote Lyre Suspension System:

I got my hands on this mic a couple weeks back. For the first 5 mins I was irritated because I was picking up static and couldn't figure out why, until I realized that the mic is battery operated (it's just a 9v battery nothing serious). Overall it's a pretty good mic, I haven't had any serious problems with it, or really any at all. Definitely a great buy for it's price, specifically from this site, I believe bhphotovideo.com has the cheapest price online that I found. Definitely a good product at a great price point

Comments about Rode VideoMic with Rycote Lyre Suspension System:

I use the Rode VideoMic attached to the cold shoe of my Canon XA-20 camcorder, for indoor and outdoor multipurpose video recording. I could have gone with a traditional XLR condenser mic because my camera can support that setup, but I found the portability of a stereo 1/8" connector microphone to be really attractive for a variety of situations, especially if I want to use it with a different camera or even independently. The universal mount is great for attaching to both cameras and boom poles, and the rubber shock absorber is a big step up from the plastic one in the older model of the same product.

One caveat: the item I received had a really sticky battery cover, and the power switch was a little bit stuck underneath the plastic wall of the back of the mic, but I have had another identical mic that didn't have that issue, so I'm going to take that as a random factory error (easily fixed by opening the battery cover several times and by adjusting the power switch) instead of a systemic defect. Overall, really great and versatile mic!

If your DSLR has a mic input port, this is a must have! The sound quality is far superior to the omnidirectional mics built into the camera body.

Love the Rycote Lyre Suspention! It works great and is durable (don't need to worry about replacing rubberbands). I use the mic with a JuicedLink preamp on a DSLR so I chose this one over the VideoMic Pro to save myself a few bucks. Just like any mic, if you can get within three feet of your talent/subject, it sounds great. Anything farther than that and your mileage may vary.

I've used this product for a couple of interviews and I was truly astonished at how great and crisp the sound was especially when I connected this to the boom pole. Although this is a great mic in most situations the need to for a +20db switch is sometimes needed and in order to configure the db settings you have to take out the battery and get a small paper clip in order to change the settings. Although there are minor issues you get what you pay for and if you'd pay a little more for a Rode Videomic Pro you'd get those options that aren't on this mic. All in all this is a good beginner mic that I would recommend.

Just received it,tried it with my d750,knowing the onboard mic is to sensitive to any noise.Tried it outdoors with a short video.Sound quality wasn't to bad. Decided to change the Pad,which is located inside the battery compartment, poor, poor design. The plastic that covers the area was put on wrong,to low.You can hardly see the switches.Besides that you can't operate them.I tried with the tip of a jewlers screwdriver and couldn't.I was afaried I would break the switches.I spent 44 years working on electonic equipment of all types and this is the poorest design that I can remember.

Okay, but I returned it for an upgraded mic

Comments about Rode VideoMic with Rycote Lyre Suspension System:

I bought this to pickup scratch and the occasional interview in a pinch.

There's a known hiss when plugged straight into some cameras. It can be avoided with an DSLR adapter. Or you can try to remove it in post. I'd rather not have another step in post, especially when there are situations when another frequency might also need removal.

Its bigger brother has a work around for this hiss, so I'll either pick that up or maybe even the Shure Lenshopper.
