A few months ago I bought a Sony A6000 with the kit lens (16-50mm) from B&H. Primarily for street photography, the camera is excellent for my purposes, but I was not completely happy with the kit lens. I read a few reviews about the Sigma 19mm, watched some videos about it on YouTube, and, since the price was so low, I decided that I couldn't pass it up.The sharpness of my photos, even at f2.8, is amazing! It compares favorably to the Nikon lenses on my D610. I bought the Sony for a backup camera to the D610, but, with the new Sigma lens, I'm finding that I carry the Sony around as much or more than the Nikon. They're both terrific cameras, but, if you're into street photography, you won't find a better lens.

The lens was sharp and produced great images on my Sony a6000, but it kept loosing connection with the camera. I then would have to disconnect the lens with the camera turned on and reconnect it. After the third time (and three photos that I missed) I decided to return it and order the Sony 20mm f2.8.

Great lens for a great value

Comments about 19mm f/2.8 DN Lens for Sony E-mount Cameras (Black):

I got a Sony a6000 without a kit lens and instead got this Sigma lens. I am more than pleased with the results. I don't really hear the noises that others have mentioned they hear in the lens when the camera is off. I plan on getting at least another lens in this Sigma series, if not both. I'm sure more expensive lenses have their reasons, but as an amateur / enthusiast, this provided a great bang for my buck.

Not expensive and a very good choice

Comments about 19mm f/2.8 DN Lens for Sony E-mount Cameras (Black):

I read many reviews before selecting and ordering this lens. read these if you want serious info on optical performance. I was satisfied with those reports. While the kit lenses that came with the camera are OK I wanted something better. I wanted a faster lens since I take many shots of building interiors while I am traveling. I particularly enjoy cathedrals and museums. I mounted the lens on my a6000 and shot a series around the neighborhood. These included near and distant objects. Enough to say that I was happy with the results.

A solid lens for the money.

Comments about 19mm f/2.8 DN Lens for Sony E-mount Cameras (Black):

I bought this to use mostly on my Sony FS7. It was the only wide macro I could find. It is a sharp lens.
The f stop is smoother than most of these electronic lenses. Autofocus on FS7 is fair. It can follow if the movement is slow. On my NEX6 it focuses pretty successfully, but it is a bit hyperactive. All in all, it is an amazing value lens for the money. I recommend it. It would get 5 stars if it had a manual iris option,

Sigma is a very thoughtful Company. They offer a nice zippered camera pouch, along with a hood and paperwork that may of interest to the Buyer.  As an Amateur Photographer, there is still a certain quality I expect from images. I have a Sony a6000 which was used for this lens.  For me, the pros outnumber the cons :

Pros-  Clarity is decent for outdoor photos in daylight, Macro is achievable with inanimate objects using a 10mm extension tube, very little to no distortion that required distortion control, a nice wide angle view that  can be cropped to other sizes when it's  needed.  I still need to experiment with indoor flash. There is a secure fit of the lens to the body of the Camera. The DOF ( Depth of Field) is remarkably smooth in outdoor shots when I am close to a subject in the foreground.

Cons- Without an Image  or Optical stabilization, I have to be sure that I am not moving when photographing moving subjects. There is too much noise in the image when Flash is not used. Or there is insufficient light in the room. Even during daylight hours. I do have to use my editing software to maximize the clarity of the image. But that is not really a Con, as it is something I have to do with nearly every image regardless of the Lens brand.

I am looking forward to more experiments with this lens and confident that I will use it more than my current 16-50mm lens.

Terrible for Video, Fantastic for Photo

Comments about 19mm f/2.8 DN Lens for Sony E-mount Cameras (Black):

I tried using this lens with my Sony A6500 and the photo side of things were truly great in all aspects, and in video almost everything was perfect until I realized that the continuous autofocus for video when using this lens created never ending pulsating in everything that was out of focus. Even when on a tripod, it seems that the lens is hunting focus in anything that is out of focus.  Whatever is locked into focus looks great, and it is fast.  I was actually blown away with how great the lens did at autofocusing until I looked at the footage on my 30 inch monitor and saw how much pulsating was going on in video. It's practically impossible to see on the LCD screen on the back of the camera, and not too evident when watching the footage on youtube from a phone, but the moment you see the footage on a tablet or anything bigger, you can easily see this shaking/pulsating effect on everything else not in focus. I thought maybe I had gotten a bad copy of the lens, so I did an exchange for a new one, but I just received my new lens today, ran some tests and again, the pulsating effect on everything that isn't in focus is still there.  It's annoyingly distracting from whatever is in focus.  I also turned off the 5 axis in body stabilization on the camera to see if that reduced the pulsating, but no i did not. It still looked terrible for video.  If you have zero interest in using this lens for video and will only be using it for photography, this lens is incredible for the price and quality. If you're using this lens for video, the footage is not usable for anything professional or that is important to you. You can view my test footage/video review on my youtube channel "The Hyphenate"

Sigma 19/2.8 DN for Sony E-mount

Comments about 19mm f/2.8 DN Lens for Sony E-mount Cameras (Black):

Great little almost-a-pancake 19mm - fast lens speed and quick AF on my a6300. Good center sharpness wide open - optimal f-stop is f8. Not a pro lens but built well and creates some very good photos. Video is a blast with a wide angle - short internal focus travel makes for smooth AF transitions. Well worth $199 compared to barely better wide angle lenses that cost much more. It's part of my lightweight street/hiking kit.

Comments about 19mm f/2.8 DN Lens for Sony E-mount Cameras (Black):

I have been a photographer for over 30 years. My travel/walk-around lens is not this lens. Is it perfect? No. However, if your looking for clear, crisp and colorful images that look great as 24x36 prints this is the one for you.

I have spent over $1,000 in the canon line for this same lens length, and I can tell you this completes very well. As a on-screen image you will see no difference and you will save hundreds of dollars too.

What a cheap great lens!

Comments about 19mm f/2.8 DN Lens for Sony E-mount Cameras (Black):

As many lenses out there this one is not perfect, but what a great copy I get. guess I was very lucky. I got this lens to use it in my Son A6500, it is as a 28mm on apsc, and it is made for APSC. Great detail in center and corners as well even in 2.8. Should be more fast, 1.8 would be great but sure should be more expensive, heavy, bigger. It is great in the A6500 because that body is stabilized. I made some 1/8 sec exposure hand held with zero movement. the color and the glass of this sigma is great. now I'm considering this sigma art line for my bag even of the A7RII that I have too. I put it in the A7RII and the camera automatically down the res from 42 to 18 megapixels because it is a APSC lens, but you can turn off that feature on the A7RII and take a full frame picture. off course you will see the image inside a black circle because it is made for APSC, but in photoshop I cropped manually the image , and I could get a great 24MP image very sharp. maybe something like a 23mm lens. just playing. The lens is light but feels well build. Metallic ring of focus ( very strange ) but for me works perfect, very soft operation and fast AF. Incredible price for a lens like this. The best cheap lenses that I can get are this one and the Sony FE 28 f2.0. it is one of the best cheap prime wide angle that you can get for sony APSC. I highly recommend this small and pretty lens.

It could be that it is plastic and feels flimsy. I needed a wide for my Sony 6300 and figured this is decent quality for the price. Next time I would save my money and buy a sony zeiss or sony G lens.

I'm struggling with this lens

Comments about 19mm f/2.8 DN Lens for Sony E-mount Cameras (Black):

I have yet to come to grips with getting this lens to focus on a subject in a street scene quickly. It will randomly pick a subject in a crowded scene leaving me with the task of fine tuning the focus to get the subject I want sharp. As I magnify the focus to get it sharp, the moment and composition are out of whack which is not ideal for the kind of work I like to do.

What would help immensely would be distance markings on the barrel which are not available, I'm sure if you have time to play with the focus you'll get the desired results. So far I have hundreds, if not thousands of photos that are out of focus using this lens. I will likely switch to a manual lens which will be much quicker using aperture priority and hyperfocal distance than this one.

Not the best lens for street shooters which is a shame as it is light, small and well built.

Comments about 19mm f/2.8 DN Lens for Sony E-mount Cameras (Black):

Maybe not the greatest wide angle lens ever, but its of staggeringly good quality for $200. If you want something appreciably better for a6000/a6300 you are looking at the $1500 Carl Zeiss Loxia 2.8/21, which certainly should be better as it costs literally 7.5x as much!

Wide angle lenses arent usually super sharp but Im happy with my 19mm, all the corners look good (way better than the kit lens, and a little better than the Sony SEL1018 - but the tradeoff is fewer focus points and no OIS. However, this is an f/2.8 lens, so its also much faster, so the lack of OIS really only hurts for video use. I have seen focus hunting during video with AF-C, but mostly in low light, low contrast scenes. If you have good light and your focus target is in the center of the frame, AF is fast and deadly accurate!

Color and contrast are somewhat muted, which may be an adjustment for some who do little/no postprocessing or shoot JPEG, and the bokeh is just average but thats not not usually considered much in a wide angle.

Its a 5 star lens for $200 and its easily the weakest of the 3 Sigma emount lenses, but after owning both it and the SEL1018 for a few months, I definitely would not part with the Sigma!

I have been sharing great images from the Sigma Art 19 mm with my photography friends showing the sharp images from this lens on the Sony A6000 shot under good lighting and at night, One image was shot at F3.2 handheld at iso 800 and was so surprised to see deep DoF for this large aperture opening. Three of my friends so far have also purchased this lens based on my sample images.
