For a long time I've been trying to save up for PocketWizards, and as many already know of the Pocket Wizard to have such an elite reputation , fortunately the brains behind Pocket Wizard decided to create an affordable device, the Plus X transceiver that wont cost you an arm or a leg. From the little conveniences of rubber test buttons buttons, to having the option of up to 10 channels to work with, the PocketWizard Plus X is very simple to use, and can affordably be found in B&H's store for less[$] I highly recommend this to anyone looking to get into off camera flash photography, or and have been in the same predicament as me.

I use to use pocket wizard for years a long time ago, but I changed to profoto air syncs when they offerer control of the packs.
I have had problems when shooting in the middle of large cities with triggers for flash working, so I brought three of these along with some Chinese made syncs (Cant remember the name) so I could swap if I had problems.

But I needed to trigger my camera (and flash on another shot) the other day, far away from any city or interference (in the desert in the emirates) and I got terrible range out of these. The profoto and the Chinese way out performed these.

So, unless you have the syncs very close, I cant recommend these. This is a shame as I love the simple clear controls these have.

Simple to use and works as advertised. A basic trigger but would satisfy most people's needs.

Does what it's supposed to do.

Comments about PocketWizard PlusX Transceiver:

There are fancier and more complicated flash triggers out there. But the PlusX meets my needs. The PlusX is reliable, reasonably rugged and straight forward to use. With 10 available channels, it allows me to shoot in environments where other photographers are also firing triggers. Since I do all of my strobe shooting in manual mode, I don't have need for the more expensive and complex TTL options available on the market. I also like the fact that it uses AA batteries which I always have on hand, instead of the more unique batteries that are required by some other triggers.
I own three PlusX transceivers as well as a Plus III which I bought before the PlusX came on the market. The Plusx is a great product and serves my purposes.

Solid Performer- Line of Sight, anyway

Comments about PocketWizard PlusX Transceiver:

This model is for standard flash triggering only.
Works well with PW Flex TT5 for Canon.

How i use it:
Set my PWPlusX to (standard) Channel 2
Set it in the Flashshoe of my 1978 Nikon FE (Film Camera)
Set my Canon 580EX ii Speedlight to CF 5-3 (Manual External Flash control)
Set my Speedlight in the Hotshoe of of Canon Flex TT5 - Standard Chanel 2

Press the shutter release on my Nikon FE and my Canon Flash Fires with [auto] External Manual Flash exposer.. and voila - perfectly exposed.
** NO SYNC SHOT was needed to get the transceivers to be "on the same page", thereby wasting a frame of film (This above process also works with two TT5s, but you need to take a couple "sync" shots first to get the Flex's to communicate correctly - wasting film isnt a luxury these days.

Nice addition - Remote Flash Sync Cables and Adapter were included (no remote shutter release was included though).

I've essentially bought a Nikon Speedlight for the cost of the pocketwizard plus X

Comments about PocketWizard PlusX Transceiver:

I have two of these now. I have them hooked up to Einstein Studio lights. This way the strobes will only fire from the channel i'm set to with the transmitter on my camera rather than someone else's flash.

Comments about PocketWizard PlusX Transceiver:

Can we just get a trigger? Not a combo trigger/reciever? And maybe one that is not gigantic. The PW MiniTTi came close, and would have been nice except it doesn't connect consistently with a Canon 1DX. PLEASE PW just a transmitter and receiver, no bells, no whistles!

10 Channels are more than enough in most cases. Range is great, as long as you have them pointing straight up. Turn them on and start firing, so simple.

I picked up the PlusX to work with my new MinniTT1 and it has worked flawlessly. I am primarily using this as a trigger for manual mono lights, it's simple and works reliably. It's nice that PocketWizard still offers these basic units and hasn't dropped them in an effort to sell the newer more advanced model. You rock PocketWizard! I'm only giving this a 4 star rating because the cord seems to be a little light, chances are it will prove to hold up to extended daily use? I'll be getting a back up to be safe :-)

          Comments about PocketWizard PlusX Transceiver:

The PocketWizard has a simple function to perform: receivers fire remote flashes that have a 1/8" mini phone port when triggered by a transmitter mounted on a hot shoe with a center pin signal. PocketWizards perform this function reliably and self configure as a receiver or transmitter. I use them with a Nikon D810 body and LumaPro LP180 flashes: a simple, manual, non-TTL approach to strobe lighting. Don't forget to bring extra batteries when you use them. Same for the flashes. Battery usage is not alarmingly high but batteries seem to die at the worst possible moment.

ONly have used for a few weeks, and only in practice sessions so far. But I have four & they work flawlessly so far. Even when they are inside a soft box.
I recommend using velcro to attach them to studio lighting.
They do feel a little cheesy though & it seems a drop might break them into pieces.

                from New York, NY

                Comments about PocketWizard PlusX Transceiver:

This is the 8th piece of Pocketwizard gear I've bought over the past few years, so I obviously like them. They're reasonably reliable and fairly well made. You get a lot for the price, and they improve your creative control tenfold.

The only negative things I have to say is they feel a little flimsy in general. This unit, however, is solid enough for most applications. Watch out for placing your transceiver near large metal objects and masses of water, as it can confuse your RF signal and render the TTL information useless. But when alls said and done, it's worth the investment.
