Could not beat the price, plus the discounted add-on leather ear cushions. I plugged these into my laptop and reduced volume control from 20 (internal speakers) down to 5. Clamping pressure will likely ease with use, I expect. These will be used in engineering live sound for concert recording and church services, and in converting old LPs to CD at home. The 1/4" gold-plated adapter screws on the mini plug; very secure. The EQ curve is designed to enhance the low frequencies, for reducing wind noise and other bass sources to improve the balance in recording and live sound reinforcement. Watch the demo video for the SMH-1000 and read the product description. Looks like a great value for the price!

Decent set of headphones for monitoring audio. Mainly used for interviews on a documentary we are working on. Recommended by my B&H guy and they did the job for me recently in London & NY. I suppose build quality not so good as the metal logo popped off while I was shooting. Not a big deal and can't be bothered sending it back, but perhaps the manufacturer might fix that so we can all do free advertising for them. For a few bucks more he did recommend the one with detachable cord so you could use a smaller or longer cord depending on your needs but this worked fine for me. So far.

SMH-500 Professional Studio Headphones

By Andre

Comments about Senal SMH-500 Professional Studio Headphones:

I use the SMH-500 Headphones for camera audio monitoring and within that environment, the SMH-500 performs rather well without coloring the audio. The SMH-500 offers a flat spectrum audio response so do not expect a lot of bass reproduction as they not designed for that purpose. My only reservation is that I find the SMH-500 not as sturdy as could be, however, a great tool for the money.

Would buy again, great product in this price range

Comments about Senal SMH-500 Professional Studio Headphones:

I have read many mixed reviews on the SMH-500 for field and studio monitoring, but with my testing I think they are superb for the price. They block out a lot of unwanted noise compared to my AKG K44 headphones, which are in the same price range. They also provide me with much more detail that didn't even know were missing. The build quality is very decent on these, I take them around in my bag and they have not shown any problems with wear. The coiled cable is great and makes it so much easier to monitor audio without the cable getting in the way. Great entry level option in this price range, I would buy again or better yet try the SMH-1000 next.

Comments about Senal SMH-500 Professional Studio Headphones:

sound is very clear. Very lightweight and comfortable. Build could be a little more robust but with care they should last a good while. Only thing I don't like is they were supposed to be over the ear style but they don't totally surround my ears like my Sennheisers.

They don't last long

By Roger

Comments about Senal SMH-500 Professional Studio Headphones:

T thin wires break near the ear pad swivel making one side stop working.  They need a design change or heavier wire.   I had the same problem with two pair.  Save your money and get something different

Right side of headphone broke and no longer plays sound

By Christopher

Comments about Senal SMH-500 Professional Studio Headphones:

After almost a year, the right side of the headphone stopped playing sound and only the left side works and still plays sound.  I requested warranty from senal as per the three year limited warranty but they required me to pay for shipping back to their RMA center that costs almost as much as purchasing a new headset and refused to provide a shipping label.  If I have to pay 16-20 bucks USPS priority mail just to get warranty service, I might as well buy a new headphone and take my business elsewhere.  I am sorely disappointed with senal's product which has proven to be rather flimsy compared to other more reliable competitors like the sony mdr7506. I am also dissatisfied with Senal's customer service and warranty.

Good, Sub $100 Option for Run-n-Gun

By Christian

Comments about Senal SMH-500 Professional Studio Headphones:

An audio professional may have a different opinion. I'm a camera owner-operator and I purchased these for run-n-gun field work. My former pair was damaged in transit to NYC and I walked in to B&H and got these on the spot. They are light, inexpensive and comfortable. Sound quality is acceptable. I don't use expensive studio monitors for field work, because the higher likelihood of them getting damaged. These fit the bill perfectly.

There is a difference in sound quality when compared to the Sony MDR-7506's. That's fine with me, they are completely acceptable for monitoring audio from a field recorder or out of camera.

Great headphones!

Comments about Senal SMH-500 Professional Studio Headphones:

Really good phones...especially for the price. I use them for some general listening, but mostly I'm using them while tracking acoustic instruments in my studio. Fairly long cable and a nice screw on 1/4" adaptor. These things are very efficient compared to the Audio Technia phones I've been using...much louder at the same volume. Comfortable too!

Great set of headphones. I use them in my studio at work, and love that they block out any outside noise. The only feature I wish it had was the ability to take the headphone cord out of headphones incase it would ever break.
