After using this paper for several weeks I have found it to be one of the best inkjet monochrome papers yet. It retains wonderful tones and dmax with detail though out.
I am using this on my Canon Imageprograf printer and just love the results.
I don't mind the higher than usual glossy finish for an inkjet paper, but do wish it was a little more in line with the Hahnemuhle and Museo glossy finishes.
Another little minus for me is the 270 gsm weight of the paper. It is just a bit flimsy and would be nice to have it at about 290 gsm. Also I don't care for the back of the paper with the appearance of some type of coating. IMHO would be better with just the paper back side w/o any coating.
All in all its still a wonderful BW paper and I will keep using it for smaller prints up to 13x19"

Comments about Ilford GALERIE Prestige Gold Mono Silk Paper (8.5 x 11", 25 Sheets):

Nice range of D-max to D-min in an additive system. I printed several test prints of B/W targets on a half dozen different papers, from glossy to fine art mat, the Gold Mono Silk was able to hold detail in both highlights and shadows very well. The paper has a nice neutral white color too, my personal preference tends toward a softer surface (think Pt/Pd prints) but some subjects need a gloss. This will be my first choice with those prints.

Nice paper but "cold"

Comments about Ilford GALERIE Prestige Gold Mono Silk Paper (8.5 x 11", 25 Sheets):

I bought it out of curiosity, I have use the Gold Fibre Silk also for B&W (with a custom profile I made long time ago) and it's probably my favorite paper. So I got the Gold Mono Silk. It's a nice paper but "cold" (and I have not done a custom profile). For my specific taste I would not buy again based but doesn't mean it's not a nice paper.

I print mostly Black & White images on this paper and the results are great. I've also used it for color photography and am also very pleased with the results. I keep a supply in stock at all times for my clients who want Black & White prints.

Comments about Ilford GALERIE Prestige Gold Mono Silk Paper (8.5 x 11", 25 Sheets):

I love the freedom of printing my own photos. With ink as expensive as it is, I like to make the most of my prints and, since upgrading/upating my printer(s), I have been experimenting with a number of papers from the top paper producers. Ilford is a great company with really nice products. The Galerie Prestige Gold Mono Silk Paper has been great for printing my black & white photos as well as color.

This paper made great black and white prints using my Epson Stylus Pro 3880. I used the Advanced B&W Photo setting and adjusted the paper configuration for drying time of 2 (0.2 sec).

Loved the finish of the paper - glossy, but not overly so much that it was a distraction. Blacks were very rich and deep.

      Excellent tonal gradation

      Pros

      • Smooth Tonal Gradation

      Cons

      • Excessively Glossy
      • Light weight

      Best Uses

Comments about Ilford GALERIE Prestige Gold Mono Silk Paper (8.5 x 11", 25 Sheets):

I do primarily monochrome digital printing and have experimented with many different papers. This product produces smooth tonal transitions, especially in the mid and darker tonal ranges. This characteristic, along with a good Dmax, has resulted in some of the better prints that I have been able to produce. However, the surface is somewhat more glossy than I would prefer, and with a weight of 270 gsm, it seems rather fragile. For these reasons, I would hesitate to use it for exhibition prints.

Best thing since Agfa Brovira 111! Excellent for b&w prints. Just like it came out of the darkroom. Now I need to try it for color printing.
