The Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 Nikon mount lens that I was using on a D7000 was back focusing @ f1.8 & close focus distances where the depth of field is very narrow. The Sigma dock allowed me to make adjustments that put focus right where it should be. This dock was used in conjunction with a Lens Align. the only negative is that you need to make a guess as to how much adjustment is required when you determine that the combination is front or back focusing. After the adjustment, which is easy, you again have to test the lens to see if you guessed correctly. If not you make another adjustment & test again.

I bought this for my 18-35 Art and my major concerns are 5 feet and infinity, which is the most useful distance of the lens. However, only 4 distances are avaliable: 0.92ft, 1.2ft, 1.7ft and infinity. I spent two days to adjust the lens for working distances and waste thousands of shutter releases on my D7100. 18-35 Art is not a macro lens and 5 feet is much more important than somewhere closer than 2 feet.

The good part is you can tune for different distances, but this means sigma lens are not well tuned initally. My copy has 35mm more off than 18mm and close distance more off than infinity. I also heard that this lens lens has focusing issue with different apertures, which are not allowed to be adjusted with the dock. Hence, I only tuned my lens at f/1.8 and I'm returning the dock. Probably I'm not going to buy sigma lens anymore.

After changing the AF settings and speed, my Sigma 150-600 sports have dramatically increased the performance with the Nikon D750, 810 an dD500. AF acquiring is faster and images sharper.

Saved my lens from the "never use but can't throw away" pile

Comments about Sigma USB Dock for Nikon F-Mount Lenses:

Brought my Sigma ART 24-35mm lens back from the dead. Though it needs to be tuned beyond the capabilities of the software, at least I now know I can use it beyond a 4ft distance from my subject and be sharp. Hopefully upgrades in the future will help me tune it perfectly :)

Using the software took some trial and error, because every tutorial I read online seemed to be the reverse of what was actually happening. But the overall time it took was 20-25 minutes, not bad at all!

Comments about Sigma USB Dock for Nikon F-Mount Lenses:

Why don't more OEMs follow this lead. The AF of my brand new 50 and 35 Art lenses was slightly off on my D810. Not any more. A 'must have' device if you need to fine tune AF.

Should get one of these if you buy any of the new sigma lenses. Especially if you need to update the firmware on your lenses or customize or fine tune focus.

Comments about Sigma USB Dock for Nikon F-Mount Lenses:

I recently bought the Sigma Art 85mm and it had quite a number of focusing issues that couldn't be solved with AF Fine Tune on my Nikon D810. This little device fixed all my problems. I read a previous review that said it doesn't work with Macs, but the program definitely worked on my MacBook Air.

Nice device to keep firmware updated

Comments about Sigma USB Dock for Nikon F-Mount Lenses:

Works just fine. Seems a bit pricey for what you get, pretty much all plastic except for the contacts. You might wait to buy a Sigma lens when they throw this in as an enticement. That's what I did. Very easy to use. Just download the Sigma Optimization Pro software free on Sigma's site, put the lens on the dock as you would to a camera body, and attach to a USB port on your computer. You must, of course, also have internet access for latest firmware, etc. Easily updated my firmware for my lens. There are other customizations you can do, also, depending on your lens like IS and focus. I have not messed with any of those, though, as I have had no need. I suspect most will get to simply keep firmware at latest level. It's a good thing Sigma is doing here and I hope others follow suit. I see that Tamron now has a similar device. Recommended.

Great tool for those w/ cameras without Calibration features

Comments about Sigma USB Dock for Nikon F-Mount Lenses:

I am primarily a bird photographer using a Nikon D3300. I had tried the competitors 600mm lens and it was both soft and slow, I purchased a Sigma 150-600mm C because of the Dock. It worked great - I was able to get a firmware update that helped the AF focus faster, and was able to micro-calibrate the lens to achieve sharp photos. I HIGHLY recommend this product!

Built like a tank...

By Michelle

Comments about Sigma USB Dock for Nikon F-Mount Lenses:

The Sigma 120-300mm is built like a tank, and weighs just about as much. I prefer a lens that has some weight to it. It means it's built well with good materials. Afterall, real glass and metals weigh more than plastics. Some of the youtube reviewers complained about the stiffness of the zoom and focus rings. Better to be on the stiff side than to have an adjustment that moves on it's own. Besides, zooming is barely a quarter turn at most. One of the chief complaints of the reviewers was with the setscrew on the massive lens hood that seemed to fall off. I believe that is due to over torking the screw when in use, as the mechanism is attached to the hood merely by two smaller screws that probably strip from the outward pressure. The lens is fast at autofocus and has been tack sharp right out of the box. Its heavy and pricey, but its a keeper for me.

A great capability for your lens

By RockvilleBob

Comments about Sigma USB Dock for Nikon F-Mount Lenses:

This seems like a great capability for the lens.

I have had the lens a couple of weeks during which time I updated the firmware, customized the lens, and set autofocus fine adjustments for the 150-600 Sport lens.

I am still not certain the autofocus adjustments are correct but I will fine tune them over time.

The firmware update and customization alone make this an outstanding addition. The autofocus fine adjustment is icing on the cake.

Comments about Sigma USB Dock for Nikon F-Mount Lenses:

It was super simple to use as long as you have a set up to accurately measure the distance of your focusing. Easy learning curve via online resources and helped me get the results I was looking for. Some lenses may be pretty close from the factory while others may be super off. This product at least allowed me to get the results I need without having to send it back to Sigma.

Comments about Sigma USB Dock for Nikon F-Mount Lenses:

I like the idea of being able to update firmware and make changes to a lens. The software for the USB Dock requires a computer with Windows 7 and newer although I have the previous version, Windows Vista. The download went fine and the software seems to work with Vista. The firmware of my 18-300mm lens was up to date. I played around with the focus settings but have not made any final settings. Very easy to go back to the default settings. I plan to buy other Sigma lenses that this will work with.

Download the software, plug in the dock and connect to your lens, its that simple. I didn't need to make any changes to the lens's that the dock works with(I have the 24-105 Art and 150-600 Contemporary). I did check for firmware updates but both lens's were up to date. It was bundled with the 150-600C so I scored it for free, but the price of the dock would be worth it for your Sigma compatible lens's.
