This simply is the best pancake lens available. I'm a working photographer and I've used many lenses, mostly Nikons, from old non AI, Ai-s, and the latest VR lenses. I did enjoy using old Nikon series E 50mm pancake lenses. I didn't think or expected that I would find any better pancake lens but this Fuji lens was extraordinary. Yes I admit I'm a pixel peeper. I have a huge graphic display and I have a habit of looking at sharpness. This lens is indeed sharp with vivid color rendition and contrast. This is the lens I carry and use most of the time with my X-E1(this camera is epic when paired with this lens). I'm tempted to buy another one in black for my brand new X-Pro1. It will just be great on X-Pro1 too.

I love how small this lens is, and how good the results turn out.  However, the absence of an aperture ring was not a satisfactory compromise.  In its absence, you control the aperture -- and significantly, the exposure mode -- using the dial on the back of the camera.  Too many times I inadvertently nudged the dial, which popped the camera from Programmed Mode to Aperture Mode, and resulted in a wasted shot at too low a shutter speed.  If I had my druthers, the focus ring on the lens would be an aperture ring.  I have never, ever focused my X-Pro1 manually.  I now use a 35 mm f/2 as my normal lens, since it has an aperture ring, and my 27 mm is gathering dust.

Comments about XF 27mm f/2.8 Lens (Black):

Very small and light. Downside is that there is no aperture ring. I have an X Pro-2 and the on camera adjustment works well, but it is one more thing to check in the viewfinder.

Comments about XF 27mm f/2.8 Lens (Black):

This lens is compact, sharp, and fast enough for a light travel setup. I paired it with a XT-10 and it is compact and light enough to keep in a jacket pocket. It doesn't replace the 35mm or 23 F2 lenses, but it's small and more than good enough for those times you want a less gear with you.

Comments about XF 27mm f/2.8 Lens (Black):

Got the lens for doing street photography. Nice and compact, unobtrusive. Color, contrast and sharpness fantastic – all on par with reviews I read. Only thing I don't like is the lens cap (hence the 4 star rather than five but I'm being picky – great lens).

Comments about XF 27mm f/2.8 Lens (Black):

Surprising lens.  I bought it as part of a kit with the X-Pro1, not expecting much from it.  It has proven to be highly useful and optically quite nice.  I'm not a lens tester or a gear freak, I'm a shooter with almost 45 years of experience, about half of that having been a photojournalist/news photographer.  I prize utility over gadgetry.  This lens is low on glamour but high on usefulness.  Optically better than expected, it's small and discreet and capable of performing above its weight class.   I own several other Fuji XF prime lenses and I can attest the little pancake 27mm fits right in with the pack.

I wish it had an aperture ring just so it would be consistent with other Fuji prime lenses.  But having a long history of using Canon's EOS cameras, I'm familiar and comfortable using a body wheel to control aperture.  Otherwise, I also wish it was a stop faster.  If it were f/2 instead of f/2.8, it would be even more useful and more in keeping with the list price.  Despite these nitpicks, I like this lens a lot.  Although not one of my most frequently used lenses, it's still highly capable and recommended.

Comments about XF 27mm f/2.8 Lens (Black):

This lens is awesome. Super compact... It makes my camera (X-T1) pocket-sized. It is sharp, quick, and quiet. Great lens for its price. You cannot adjust the aperture with the lens, but you can just simply use the thumb dial on the camera instead. I like to use it on manual focus a lot of the time, however, the auto-focus works great too!

Bought this lens before I had a camera that it would work on

Comments about XF 27mm f/2.8 Lens (Black):

After I had looking into the Fujifilm system I made up my mind that I was going to jump in, but I didn't have the money to buy a camera, but the XF 27mm f/2.8 lens was on sale, so I bought it. Yes I bought a lens but didn't have the camera. However, when Fuji started to issue new upgrades I picked up the Pro 1 because of the deep discount and mounted my XF 27mm on the Pro 1. This is a wonderful lens. It is equivalent of a 42mm lens so it fall between the 35mm and 50mm that a street photographer would want to use. The files from this lens/camera combo has allowed me to use jpegs right out of the camera for the first time. In the past I aways shot RAW, but no more. This lens is fast to focus, and sharp and is for me a wonderful street/general purpose lens. Having shot with SLR, DSLR, m 4/3 and now Fuji, I have to say that this Fuji is right up there in giving you a quality image right up there with the best equipment.

Best Street Shooting Lens

By Tyler Nikon/Fuji Reviewer

from New Jersey

Comments about XF 27mm f/2.8 Lens (Black):

I purchased this lens for my X-Pro1 because of its size. Because the lens is so small, it makes the camera almost unnoticeable. 27 millimeters (approx. 41mm full frame equivalent) is a great focal length for general walk around photography. This lens was well worth the price.

Comments about XF 27mm f/2.8 Lens (Black):

Lens ideal for my x-pro2, carried both to any place. I recommend this item. Very small and light, sharp and very luminous. Compared with the 35 f 1,2 the quality is simply superb.

Complements my XT-1

By Charisse

Comments about XF 27mm f/2.8 Lens (Black):

I wanted a smaller lens to go with my XT-1. Autofocus was not as fast as the 18-135mm lens that I bought my XT-1 with, but it makes for an indispensable lens for street photography.

Was just outside shooting with this tonight. Such a simple joy: aperture through the thumb wheel on the back of the camera, focus is fast, images sharp. Really is a wonderful, low-profile, light lens to always have with you.

Great value, get the filter protector, Heliopan lens hood

By RichieP

Comments about XF 27mm f/2.8 Lens (Black):

A prime lens makes a difference and this one is perfect for everyday use on my X-T10 and very affordable. It requires the Fujifilm UV protector filter because it is exposed and I use the cute but useful Heliopan lens hood. It is very solid. OIS is not needed with today's fast cameras with f 2.8 more than adequate. 27 mm is a very pleasing perspective especially for people shots as well as landscapes with excellent color saturation and clarity. My kit lens stays at home. A prime lens also makes one move around more the way classic photography used to be. If you are looking to get your first prime lens this is the one to get. And one more thing: BH is the best company for photog equip, best service, most reliable.

Comments about XF 27mm f/2.8 Lens (Black):

The 27mm lens has to be the biggest "pleasant surprise" of all my Fujifilm lenses. Because it's made in China, and lacks an aperture ring, this lens sometimes gets a bad (and unfair) rap. What I can say after using this lens for a few weeks is this, IT IS SHARP, FAST TO FOCUS, AND A REAL WINNER!
When I put this lens on my XE-2, the entire package is so small and discreet, it is the perfect "street shooter".

Comments about XF 27mm f/2.8 Lens (Black):

Unbelievably sharp! Yes, some plastic is used in its very solid construction, and no, it does not have an aperture ring. So what! Get it on sale for a great little deal. Turns an X-T1 into almost a pocketable camera. The 40mm equiv. focal length is excellent to work with. No quibbles about the 39mm filter size... just put on a good UV filter (B+W) and a nice metal shade (Heliopan) and you are ready to go. Good to get a more tight fitting lens cap, too (Sensei). I've dedicated an X-T1 to this lens. My other X-T1 will be turned permanently into an infrared camera after the X-T2 makes its debut. But I digress...the 27mm is a great little lens. A golden opportunity all dressed up in black! Don't fret. Don't dither. Just buy one and use it for light weight, great sharpness, decent bokeh, with good enough auto-focus.

      By Rafa Ortiz

      from San Juan, Puerto Rico

Comments about XF 27mm f/2.8 Lens (Black):

I've been using the 27mm for street photography for a while now. It paints well with both my X-Pro1 and X-T1. It is an outstandingly sharp lens for its tiny size. Some say even sharper than the much-lauded 35mm f1.4 lens. Just check out the in-depth lens review by photo zone to see what I mean.

I put this lens on my Xe1 and it is so small and light that I can easily carry it in my purse. The image quality is great and it is fast enough for taking pictures of activities at school where I work. I am using it mostly on my xe1 which doesn't have the fastest autofocus, but it adequately meets my needs. I also got it when there was an instant rebate that made it very affordable.
