Smartphone Control of Your Nikon DSLR Camera
The blueSLR for Nikon line of accessories makes it possible to wirelessly control your Nikon DSLR using a remote device you may already be carrying: an iPhone, iPod, iPad, Android device or BlackBerry. The manufacturer, blueSLR, makes four versions of the pocket-size Bluetooth accessory that plugs into the GPS or 10-pin remote port of your camera. They work in conjunction with a free app you download from the Apple App Store, Android Market or BlackBerry App World to your phone, tablet or other handheld device.
Once you attach a blueSLR to the camera and pair it with your handheld device, you’ll gain remote control of your camera, allowing you to take pictures of finicky subjects like pets and children with greater ease, even from distances up to 300 feet away. Nature and wedding photographers, especially, stand to benefit. You’ll be able to remotely adjust your camera’s focus, shutter speed and timer too.
But blueSLR is more than a remote control; it also helps you to map, share and sort photos. It encodes the location, time, speed and direction within the metadata of the file and shows you on a map where your photos were taken. You can share your photos on iPhoto, Places, Picasa or Flickr, and they’ll be placed on a map so your friends or associates can see where you’ve been. You can also sort your photos based on where they were taken using blueSLR’s sophisticated GPS encoding technology. Crime-scene photographers will benefit from blueSLR by being able to document exactly where they gathered evidence.
