JVC SR-HD2500 Blu-Ray Disc & HDD Recorder with HD-SDI
The annual NAB show is always an exciting affair, with each year bringing ever more technical advancements. The 2012 show was no exception, and despite the predictions in certain quarters of the demise of DVDs as a distribution medium, huge interest was shown in the JVC
SR-HD2500US Blu-ray recorder. Of particular interest to broadcasters, professional sports teams and religious institutions, the recorder is capable of copying videos to a Blu-ray disc in high definition from an HD camcorder, or down-converting the videos and recording them onto DVDs—all without a computer.
A built-in 500GB internal hard disk drive allows for easy editing directly on the unit, and for the subsequent dubbing of multiple discs. The unit is equipped with USB and SD slots for connecting source media. i.Link (FireWire) input terminals are included for connecting camcorders. These allow, for example, a sports coach to record a game or practice, and immediately burn multiple copies of the footage to give to team members for review, or to archive the footage. For broadcasters, a built-in SD/HD-SDI interface ensures compatibility with most HD cameras, recorders and production switchers.
In addition to AVCHD, HDV and DV, JVC Everio file formats are also compatible. Blu-ray discs can be created via the BDMV (with menu) format, while BDAV discs may be created and dubbed. Additionally, you have the ability to use an original image as the background menu graphic. The unit is also compatible with high capacity dual-layer 50 GB Blu-ray discs, recording up to twenty-four hours (AE mode) of full high-definition video onto a single disc. Writing to cost-effective LTH-type Blu-ray discs (a write-once Blu-ray format) is supported, as well.
Disc authoring can be used to create discs that auto-start and repeat playback automatically for industrial use and permanent media installations. For occasions requiring the use of a PC, an RS-232C terminal is included for external control. Also available is the ability to superimpose SD/HD-SDI embedded time code or time/date onto the Blu-ray or DVD. Finally, flexible monitoring is provided via HDSDI, HDMI and component outputs.
