New Arrival: Line 6 Mobile Keys for iPad, Mac and Windows

When you’re picking out a controller keyboard these days, you must first determine how you’re going to use it: either with your main computer or with your mobile device, and then purchase a compatible product. However, the new Mobile Keys keyboard controllers from Line 6 are compatible, plug-and-play style, with Mac, Windows and iOS devices. You can use them with DAW (digital audio workstation) software like Reason, Logic and Ableton Live. They’re also compatible with and CoreMIDI apps for iOS, such as GarageBand and other recording, instrument and drum-machine apps.

Not only can they connect seamlessly with multiple platforms, they’re powered by them as well. The rear of a Mobile Keys controller (there are 25-key and 49-key versions available) features two separate ports: one is dedicated to connecting to mobile devices, the other is a standard USB port dedicated to connecting to laptop and desktop computers. A cable is included with Mobile Keys to connect directly to the 30-pin port on an Apple iPad or iPhone. Mobile Keys are incredibly power efficient, and get all the juice they need from this port. It won’t even tax the battery on your mobile device very much. A typical iPad runs for 10 hours on a charge, and with a Mobile Keys attached, it will run for nine hours.

They keyboard is fully velocity sensitive, and the full-sized keys are designed to feel and play very nicely. Control-wise, you get both pitch and modulation wheels, volume and pan knobs (both of which are fully MIDI assignable), octave/bank up and down buttons and a Shift key for programming the keyboard. There are also 1/4-inch sustain and expression pedal inputs on the back (which can also be reassigned to control other MIDI parameters).
