Who Put the LED in Jellied Fish?

/node/3981/revisions/39451/viewEven if it looks like a prop from V, the Jellyfish Effect LED Light from American-DJ could become more than an alien visitor for the itinerant DJ shopping for a portable light show. The 5-pound, 12.5 inch-wide light generator, with handle for carrying or hanging, provides two types of effects: beams that drop down and bathe dancers (or an empty floor) in red, green, blue and white light and a color-changing, glowing case that can be admired from a distance.

American-DJ, a company known as a supplier of lighting products to mobile entertainers, nightclubs, bands, cruise ships, traveling minstrels and trade shows, announced the Jellyfish Effect LED back in February. Now, just in time for the annual July jellyfish season along the Jersey shore, the product is washing up (being shipped in cushioned packaging) to B&H. It's set to be stocked sometime around June 11th.

Up to 26 Jellyfish can be daisy-chained, creating a lighting effect that American-DJ refers to as a "bloom." The corporate press release explains: "A group of jellyfish in nature is known as a 'bloom,' so it's only fitting the LED version can create a distinctive bloom of its own." Another interesting fact I dug up is that the word "jellyfish" is both singular and plural, though I can't speak to gender.

Complete with 84 light-emitting diodes, the JED (for "Jellyfish Effect Diode") requires no cool-down period because LEDs don't get mad. That means you can pack up and head home even before last call. And you can assure club owners that their electric bills could very well be smaller, since LEDs are more energy-efficient than conventional lights.

Yes, it's safe to go back to the disco. At least until next summer when American-DJ introduces the Shark.Effect LED. Only kidding!
