Capture the Finest Details
Managing to squeeze even more out of Sony's high-performing full-frame 42.4MP Exmor R BSI CMOS sensor, the a7R III manages to improve low-light performance, bump up dynamic range to 15 stops, and offer a Pixel Shift Multi Shooting mode that captures the absolute finest details. Also, UHD 4K video is available, though with enhanced features and quality.
Known already for outstanding UHD 4K video specs in its Super35 mode, the a7R III steps things up with improved noise handling and much-improved quality in full-frame mode. S-Log3 makes its way onto this model along with a brand new Hybrid Log-Gamma profile for near instant support for HDR video with a wide color gamut on compatible displays.
Reaching 10 fps at 42.4MP is an impressive feat, and the a7R III manages to do this with both a completely silent electronic shutter and a newly developed mechanical shutter mechanism using a large buffer of 76 frames. On top of this, the camera features an enhanced Fast Hybrid AF system that boasts speeds that are twice as fast as its predecessor with added precision.
Dual SD card slots are present, including one with speedy UHS-II support, to facilitated better management of files as well as an instant backup in the field. A USB 3.1 Type-C connector is available for fast tethering and a PC sync terminal makes it easy to work with flash. Additionally, a brand new suite of software will be made available for improved handling of files and editing.
Improved Handling and Ergonomics
Much like the a9, the a7R III offers many improvements to the body design and handling with a redesigned grip, the high-res 3.7m-dot OLED EVF, and a 1.44m-dot touchscreen LCD. The rear of the body also now has a joystick for rapidly and intuitively changing settings and accepts the NP-FZ100 battery, which is 2.2x as large as that found in its predecessor.
