Perfect lens for close up flower images. The lens is small with wonderful auto focus features.

Though I'm primarily a Nikon fan, I bought my K-3 because Nikon (and Canon) seem unaware of a thing called rain. I passed up some great shots from behind a waterfall in the Smokies because I wasn't going to take one of my D-800s into the heavy mist. So I initially bought only the WR (weather resistant) lenses to go with the K-3. Lately, however, I find myself buying more of the Pentax prime lenses simply because I like the K-3, and this lens performs well. It's great for portraits and general use when you simply want to get in a little closer. While the K-3 can be a little slow auto-focusing the longer telephotos, this one is fast, provides a spot-on focus, with a pleasant bokeh. Color is uniform across the entire frame with no aberrations noted at any aperture.

Does this lens work without electronic camera ...

Does this lens work without electronic camera control? If I use a dummy mount adapter to EF, can I do manual focus and iris control? Or is the fstop only able to be adjusted by a camera that speaks to the lens?
Asked by: Kyle
The aperture on this lens would need to be controlled by the camera or an adapter with manual aperture control.

Is this for cropped sensors only? Would this not work on a K-1 mk II?
Asked by: Salvatore
The Pentax HD Pentax DA 70mm f/2.4 Limited Lens (Black) is only for Pentax cropped sensor cameras. The lens is incompatible since the Pentax K-1 Mark II DSLR Camera is full-frame.

How is this different from the older DA version with green ring?

question

Is the quality and compact size of prime lenses worth the loss of convenience compared to zooms?
Asked by: dan H.
You will definitely have more convenience and versatility with a good zoom lens, but primes tend to give you better photos for a specific situation, e.g., portraits. The photos I get with this prime lens are superb, and I'm very glad that I have this in my kit. If you cannot afford both a zoom lens and a prime lens now, start out with one and then add the other over time. Which one to start depends on the types of photos you'll be taking, e.g., travel and sports vs portraits.
