The Leica S Edition 100 Medium Format DSLR Camera is a high-performance camera featuring a 37.5MP 45 x 30mm CCD sensor to produce high-resolution imagery with marked sharpness, clarity, and dynamic range. The omission of an optical low-pass filter from the sensor's design further enables enhanced detail and resolution, that pairs well with the optimized Leica S lenses. Furthermore, on-sensor microlenses work to produce consistent and even light distribution to ensure edge-to-edge sharpness and illumination for a high degree of overall clarity. The imaging quality is accentuated by efficient performance and processing abilities, aided by the integrated 2GB buffer, for capturing up to 32 consecutive DNG lossless compressed files at a 1.5 fps continuous shooting rate. When working with fast, moving subjects, an intelligent center cross-type AF point helps to produce precise focus and a predictive algorithm works to ensure sharpness when photographing subjects in motion.
Complementing the advanced imaging capabilities of the Leica S is an equally refined body design, which takes on a minimalist structure with focus on the most essential shooting controls. A large 3.0" 920k-dot LCD monitor serves as a clear means for image review and menu navigation while the large 0.86x-magnification pentaprism viewfinder acts as a bright tool for image composition. A weather-sealed body construction protects the system from dust and moisture, including the series of interface ports and lens mount. Additionally, serving to benefit the post-production and sharing of imagery, an integrated GPS module is able to embed location data within the metadata of each image while shooting, for plotting to interactive maps during the sharing process.
Included with the camera are both the Summarit-S 70mm f/2.5 ASPH CS and Elmarit-S 30mm f/2.8 ASPH CS lenses; a normal-length and wide-angle prime both incorporating a central shutter mechanism to enable flash sync capabilities throughout the entire shutter speed range up to 1/1000 sec. Both of these lenses incorporate aspherical elements, elements of anomalous partial dispersion, and other corrective element designs to realize a high degree of sharpness that pairs well with the high-resolution of the image sensor.
For storing and transporting the entire kit, this limited centennial edition kit also includes a customized Rimowa Topas Multiwheel Cabin Trolley with dedicated inlays for each component.
For live view monitoring, reviewing imagery, and navigating the menu, a 3.0" 920k-dot TFT LCD monitor is available for bright, clear viewing in a variety of lighting conditions. Set in sRGB color space, and covering 16.7 million colors, this monitor can be used to superimpose exposure parameters as well as a brightness or RGB histogram over the monitor image.
On the side of the camera, dust- and splash-proof covers unveil a range of interface options, including a LEMO USB port, for connecting to a computer for offloading imagery or working in a tethered manner; and an HDMI port for direct image playback to an HDTV. The included cables feature strain-relief connectors for greater durability.
The included Leica S rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack, rated at 2100mAh, allows approximately 1000 shots per charge. A specially-designed mechanism prevents the battery from falling out of the camera when the battery compartment is opened for greater security.
