B+W 77mm Kaeseman Circular Polarizing Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) Filter
The B&W 77mm Kaeseman Circular Polarizing Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) Filter is constructed from select polarizer foils and especially prepared optical glass. Kaeseman ("encased") filters are completely edge-sealed for maximum durability under extreme climatic conditions.
Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast.The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and varied by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun.
The reputation of B+W's Schott glass is world renowned. The high production standards combined with a sturdy brass filter ring make B+W filters hard to beat. These filters have a "heft" to them that is impressive. They may feel heavier but the benefit is in the construction and results. Not only is the glass exceptional but so is the seal between the ring and glass. Schott Glass used in the manufacture of this filter is legendary and synonymous with the highest standards of filter production. It comes with a solid 10-year warranty.
Note! Circular polarizers are specifically designed for use with auto-focus SLR cameras (They will also work on manual systems without problems)

I have both this polarizer, and the Hoya Pro 1 Digital for wide angle lenses, and other B&W polarizers (non Kaesemann). With my EF-S 17-55mm and Canon 50D, I could see no vignetting, even at wide angle and f/2.8, so getting the wide angle version is not needed in my case. This way, I can put a regular lens cap on the polarizer. The colors seem more accurate than my Hoya polarizer. The ring is heavier and harder to rotate, but it seems more sturdy. After time though, some of my B&W polarizers become "sticky" and harder to rotate smoothly. The coating is superior to Hoya, there are clearly less reflections. Also, the back of the filter is much easier to clean (seems to smudge on the Hoya). The coating seems to be more resistant to scratches as well. It is also sealed for better durability from the environment (good for travel). The only downside is that the filter is harder to rotate (for example with a lens shade on, with the Hoya it's easy to do with one finger). Another important factor is that the filter stops clearly less light than Hoya, which is good (for example shutter speed of 1/320 or 1/400 vs. 1/500 with Hoya at same ISO and aperture). Overall, looking at top-of-the line polarizers, this one is clearly the best.

Excellent glass and filtration (as it should be for a top-tier product and brand name B+W. But there's a big catch in terms of mounting threads... notorious for "locking up" once screwed on, especially when screwed into B+W's setup ring (anodized aluminum). Large front section of P-filter spins as is required for polarizing-angle use; behind that is a very tiny gripping area ring... that too-often refuses to unscrew. B+W claims they've never heard of the issue. Unscrewing it in the field under difficult circumstances is near impossible, even indoors. Do consider buying filter-wrenches. Oddly, B+W doesn't make any, nor provide them with a polarizer. In summary: great glass. Poor mount.

I do a lot of marine photography of sailboat regattas from the fly bridge of power boats. I do not often have a choice of shooting at optimum sun angle. That means my shots can be right into the sun, at right angles or with the sun behind me. The only way I can obtain color that closely resembles the human eye is with this filter. The results are truly remarkable. Also I shoot a lot of panoramic landscapes with similar spectacular results when using this amazing filter. Very smooth rotation with just my index finger.

This filter is on the pricey side, but its quality reflects the cost. It is well built and performs great. I would highly recommend spending the extra money on this instead of one of the cheaper options. The filter screws in and out of my lenses without any issues and the adjustment ring turns smoothly

I live in south florida and the sun is very bright.good circular polarizers are a must.was in the keys on a bright sunny day and took a pic of a boat in the water. wow! this polarizer eliminated the sheen on the water and the end result is you could see the ocean water right down to the bottom. get the regular b + w polarizer as the slim one is too hard to grab easily and turn.

Probably the best Cr Pl on the market. Much better then the cheaper ones from Hoya, Tiffen etc. Is almost as "invisible" as a top uv-filter, and has no visible vigneting and does not add any extra flares. Top product, and def worth the bigger pricetag.

I upgraded to the B&W Kaeseman from a Hoya circular polarizer when I got my Canon 5D Mark 2. First use was on a road trip to Baja. Even zoomed out to 50mm I had dramatic blue bulls-eyes in my clear skies, which ruined the photos. I ended up ditching the B&W in favor of the Hoya for the second half of the trip. When I go home I talked to the tech at Schneider Optics (the B&W U.S. distributer) who said the bulls-eye was normal. Since I found it unacceptable I contacted tech support [...] I have purchased another Hoya.
