The 52mm Ultraviolet (UV) Filter from B+W is a wise initial investment. It helps protect your valuable investment from dust, moisture and scratches, which can lead to costly repairs.
B+W UV filters are excellent general purpose filters since they will not only protect your front element from airborne contaminants as well as fingerprints but also help you get better images at high altitude and while on the water. Using this filter will diminish the bluish cast caused by the various atmospheric factors, yet, it will not have an effect on the color balance of your shot. No increase in exposure is required.
A UV filter is the best available protection for the front element of your lens. A lens that accidentally gets dropped on its front element while hiking can potentially be saved by purchasing this item. Some people refer to them as "cheap insurance".
Aside from that more-than-significant benefit, UV filters cut through some of the haze in the atmosphere rendering your photos clearer, sharper and more contrasty. For those who enjoy outdoor photography, especially distant vistas, a UV filter can produce a more distinct image by removing much of the blue tint normally associated with atmospheric haze.
The filter ring is made from brass yielding a stronger product. Brass filter rings are also less prone to jamming. In addition, the seal between the glass and filter ring is exceptionally strong giving the filter added strength and durability. The excellent Schott Glass used in the manufacturing of this filter is legendary and synonymous with the highest standards of filter production. It comes with a solid 10-year warranty.

Comments about B+W 52mm Ultraviolet (UV) Filter:
I got a lot of lens flare with my Tiffen filter, but it seems almost nonexistent with the B+W. I questioned the extra cost but have been satisfied with the purchase.

I use this as a protective filter for my lens. Better to have a [$] filter scrape up than a $500 lens. It is superb quality. Nothing but great products come from B+W!

Comments about B+W 52mm Ultraviolet (UV) Filter:
After reading many reviews about B+W filters, I decided to buy this UV Haze for my Nikon 18-55mm lens. The quality of this filter is amazing and the glass is so clear you almost can't tell it's there! The gold lettering on the filter gives it a nice, professional look. Fits perfectly with no binding of threads. This was my first purchase from B&H. [...] I Will definitely order from them again!

Comments about B+W 52mm Ultraviolet (UV) Filter:
This product comes very nicely packaged in it's own case. Immidiately after unpackaging it I was taken back by the clarity and strength of this filter. If put up to my eye I wasn't able to tell anything was even there.
The filter screwed on easily without much fuss and that was that. The photos so far have come out great, I've never noticed much of a difference with any UV filter though, I mainly use them to keep my lens of getting scratched up.
True story, my backpack strap broke one day careening my camera downward lens first, upon further inspection all I saw was shattered glass and my heart stopped. I soon found out though that all that had broken was the filter, I'm sure that it withstood most of the shock from the fall. My front lens element was scratch free and healthy.

Comments about B+W 52mm Ultraviolet (UV) Filter:
Excellent B+W quality as usual. It is being used on a Nikon 18-55 DX VR lens mainly for lens protection, digital cameras really don't have a need for UV. Filter feels solid and threads attach smoothly and firmly to the lens. Zero discoloration of the image. Easy to clean. I've owned other B+W filters and every one of them perform superbly.
