A B+W 72mm Haze (UV) MRC Filter is a wise initial investment. It helps protect your valuable investment from dust, moisture and scratches, which can lead to costly repairs. If desired it can be left on the lens at all times for protection. A haze filter provides additional benefits of correction for Ultraviolet (UV) light which can register on film and videotape as a bluish cast and can obscure distant details. An ultraviolet filter allows you to correct for the UV effect to varying degrees.
A B+W UV MRC filter is an excellent general purpose filter since it will not only protect your front element from airborne contaminants as well as fingerprints but also help you get better images at high altitude and while on the water. Using this filter will diminish the bluish cast caused by the various atmospheric factors, yet, it will not have an effect on the color balance of your shot. No increase in exposure is required.
The filter ring is made from brass yielding a stronger product. Brass filter rings are also less prone to jamming. In addition, the seal between the glass and filter ring is exceptionally strong giving the filter added strength and durability. The excellent Schott Glass used in the manufacturing of this filter is legendary and synonymous with the highest standards of filter production. It comes with a solid 10-year warranty.
The MRC coating on this filter adds to its durability - particularly under less than optimal weather conditions. In addition, the hard coating makes cleaning the filter easier - especially when it comes to removing fingerprints or surface dirt. Moreover, this filter benefits users of digital cameras whose shorter focal length lenses are more susceptible to dirt and other contaminants on the front lens element.
Multi-coated to minimize reflection at the filter surfaces which reduces flare and ghosting.

I only use B+W filters. Quality construction and well manufactured. The threads fit smoothly on the lenses. If you've spent hundreds or thousands on your lenses, it should be a no-brainer to get a UV filter to protect the front of your lens. I have never noticed a decrease in image quality with my B+W UV filters. Anytime I buy a new lens, I count on B+W to give me piece of mind.

Seems okay
To tell you the truth, I haven't seen much of a change in picture quality, pro or con, with this filter. It does give a measure of lens protection.

Does exactly what it is supposed to do. Can't tell it is there, but am comforted by the extra protection. My wife accidentally dropped camera bag with lense in it the floor. The filter took the brunt of the punishment...shattered. Took the lense to Nikon and they said that had it not been for the filter, the lense would have been a goner. Fantastic investment!

Comments about B+W 72mm UV Haze 010 F-Pro MRC Filter:
It only makes sense to protect the front element of a high quality lens, you don't want gritty dirt there, and you don't want a scratch. B&W filters are a step or 2 or 3 above the common heard of filters. The glass is the same optical quality as the glass in the lens. It doesn't make sense to put a $20.00 piece of windpw glass on the front of a $2000.00 lens, does it?

Using Canon Rebel XTi, 15-85mm F/3.5-5.6. This filter is multi-coated. I do not get any glare inside at all. I do most of my shooting inside, all kinds of crazy lights on, never get a glare. Excellent for protecting that upgrade to my kit lens too.

When I first opened the box I couldn't even see the screen. I thought it was just a ring, but indeed it was there, so clearly it doesn't cause a problem for my pictures. My husband put it on and now it's as if it's not even there. The lense cap still fits perfectly. And now my lense is protected. All wonderful!

Have used this filter on a prime lens for 3 jobs already. Its reputation as the best for what it does is borne out with the results. Light transmission apprears to be 100 per cent and the peace of mind afforded by its protection from the elements is, as they say in ads in other contexts, "priceless."

If for no other reason than to protect your investment from scratches, oil and other problems, this filter allows for a high percentage of light to pass through with minimal, if any negative effects.

I purchased this uv filter for general use with a new Sigma lens. I have been a Nikon photographer for more than 50 years and always remember that a top-quality filter is as important as the lens. I have been delighted with this filter.

Use the product always (unless directed otherwise)!
It is not unbreakable! But it is easier to clean then the front element of the lens. I just arrived from a children`s birthday party and am about to clean the filter from some sugary drink that splashed on it. I removed the filter to keep taking more pictures but at least I saved the lens from a shower.

I purchased it to protect the front glass on my 18-200 mm Canon zoom. Holds the lens cap in place better than the lens itself. No negatives.
