A B+W 82mm Haze (UV) MRC Filter is a wise initial investment. It helps protect your valuable investment from dust, moisture and scratches, which can lead to costly repairs. If desired it can be left on the lens at all times for protection. A haze filter provides additional benefits of correction for Ultraviolet (UV) light which can register on film and videotape as a bluish cast and can obscure distant details. An ultraviolet filter allows you to correct for the UV effect to varying degrees.
A B+W UV MRC filter is an excellent general purpose filter since it will not only protect your front element from airborne contaminants as well as fingerprints but also help you get better images at high altitude and while on the water. Using this filter will diminish the bluish cast caused by the various atmospheric factors, yet, it will not have an effect on the color balance of your shot. No increase in exposure is required.
The filter ring is made from brass yielding a stronger product. Brass filter rings are also less prone to jamming. In addition, the seal between the glass and filter ring is exceptionally strong giving the filter added strength and durability. The excellent Schott Glass used in the manufacturing of this filter is legendary and synonymous with the highest standards of filter production. It comes with a solid 10-year warranty.
The MRC coating on this filter adds to its durability - particularly under less than optimal weather conditions. In addition, the hard coating makes cleaning the filter easier - especially when it comes to removing fingerprints or surface dirt. Moreover, this filter benefits users of digital cameras whose shorter focal length lenses are more susceptible to dirt and other contaminants on the front lens element.
Multi-coated to minimize reflection at the filter surfaces which reduces flare and ghosting.

Comments about B+W 82mm UV Haze 010 F-Pro MRC Filter:
I'll cut to the chase. This is the filter I should have bought first. Instead, I thought I would save a bit of money and get the less expensive HOYA Ultraviolet UV(0) Haze Multicoated Filter. The HOYA was half the price of the B+W. "It's just a filter," I thought. "What can go wrong."
Well, needless to say, the HOYA arrived together with my brand new Canon EF 16-35 f2.8L lens, but when I openned the packet, the filter was in several pieces. I subsequently read some of the other reviews and found that my experience was not unique!
I then had to send the filter back and get this one, all the while with my new lens with no protective filter.
You get what you pay for, so my advice would be to go with a good quality filter straight from the start. If you are going to spend good money on a good lens, then you need to get a filter to match. This one is well made and does what it is supposed to do.
On subsequent reading of the HOYA reviews, I noticed a number of people complaining about difficulties cleaning that filter. I have had no such problems with the B+W filter in that regard.

I bought this lens to go with my EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM Autofocus Lens by Canon. It is very important to protect your investment by attaching a filter to protect the lens glass.
I chose this filter because it is colorless and does not affect the quality of the image that is taken. It is a great quality glass, and it does not change the image's consistency taken with or without the filter.
I keep this filter on my lens at all times. There is no reason to ever remove it. The lens cap fits right over-top of the filter just like it would without the filter.
This lens also helps to reduce glare and those round colorful circles that randomly appear in photographs when the sunlight catches the camera just right. In doing so, it saves many photos that would otherwise be unusable.

Complete the weather sealing on your high end lenses with this high end filter. You didn't skimp on your lens so why skimp on protecting it?

Comments about B+W 82mm UV Haze 010 F-Pro MRC Filter:
I used to use Hoya HMC filters. The advantage of the B+W filters is that they don't get dirty as easy and are much easier to clean without scratching. The Hoya filters are fine, but they are hard to clean and easy to scratch. The B+W filters are thicker, stronger, and a breeze to clean off with a good cloth.

Used it on my 16-35mm F/2.8 L II. I personally think it is a must to have on an expensive lens like 16-35mm. Used it on a rainy day, no problems. Heavy duty enough for our professional use.

B&H Photo is one of the few places that you can readily get these specialty products. I am using the 82mm B+W (1A) pro filter on a Canon 24mm TSE II lens. The filter is extremely well made and the 1A version gives more clarity in the sky's. Attached to the filter is the Heliopan 82-95 step-up ring (#112). There is NO vignetting at any aperture with this combo. The front lens cap, i.e., the Hasselblad 95mm, works perfectly. All of these items are of the highest quality and compliment the new TSE Canon lens, which is the sharpest Canon lens that I own.

It's my first filter. I needed something to protect my EF 16-35mm, is the only reason I got this. I picked this because of all the positive reviews. I put this on and I don't notice that it's there. I guess that's how you know it's a good UV filter.
