This product does exactly what it claims to do. The only reason I did not give it the highest rating is because Canon needs to put an additional sensor in the back of the camera. It works great as long as you are standing in front of or beside the camera. I do a lot of long exposures of waterfalls and I also shoot a lot of macro pictures. Both require you to be behind the camera a good share of the time. The engineers at Canon should rethink this one. The only design flaw here is actualy in the camera body not having a rear sensor. Add a rear sensor and this would be an almost perfect product.

Bought for use with my Rebel XT (350D) and was just excited about the wireless function. Not as pleased as I had hoped.
Pros: Great for photos where I want to jump in but useless for studio work and regular tripod use. 2 function shutter button (2 sec. delay, instant shutter release) is nice.
Cons: Bright light does interfer a little and reaching around the front of the camera to click the shutter during studio/tripod use is a pain. AF is hard sometimes, especially in lower light (even if camera focuses when on camera shutter button is half way depressed, using the remote it may not find focus)
Really cool gadget for wireless use and family photos where you want to jump in. Not worth it for use in a studio setting or where you just want to get ride of camera shake on a tripod.
I prefer my RS-60E3 wired remote (for same price)

Comments about Canon RC-1 Wireless Remote Controller:
I was sick and tired of the cable remote always dangling on my camera, allowing dust into the camera where the cable enters. This little thing works just fine with my eos 5D mark II. It is a very small thing, and I'm always afraid to drop it and lose it. Especially when my hands are cold it has a tendency to slip between my fingers.
I do still carry my cable remote, in case this one runs out of battery power, but that hasn't happened yet. I haven't used it long enough to judge if it is durable.

Comments about Canon RC-1 Wireless Remote Controller:
There are times when this comes in really handy, but the remote really needs to be aimed pretty precisely at the camera's sensor in order for it to trigger. Oftentimes you press, and press, and press, and press, until you get the right angle.

I used to wait for 10 sec for a self family photograph. No its just a click away on my will as soon as we are ready for the photograph.

This controller works well but has distance limitations. If you don't need long distance
control, this is the product you are looking for.

Comments about Canon RC-1 Wireless Remote Controller:
I was a bit worried about the line of site for this device. I wanted to use the RC-1 for night shoots and I would be behind the camera mainly. Though the RC-1 works from above and by the side at close range, which works for me. The auto focus can be slow for self-portrait shots but I don't plan on using it for this purpose so I am fine with it.

I wanted it in order to take a self portrait and it worked great versus using the timer on the camera which I had done before.

Instead of buying the expensive remote use this cheap guy! Even works for bulb settings (press the button on the remote once to start the exposure and a second time to stop the exposure)!

Comments about Canon RC-1 Wireless Remote Controller:
The reason why I wanted one of these was to make the taking of self-portraits easier. SOME TIMEz U need one of u to. hihihi!!
Other reviews I read didn't give details of how the remote works with auto-focusing but I ordered one anyway and can now confirm that:-
the shutter release on the remote is not the same as on the camera i.e. it's just a single-click rather than "press halfway to focus" then "fully depress to take the shot". However, if you leave the lens set on Autofocus, and press the remote, the camera does autofocus then take the shot.
This is important because I don't think the camera will focus again before taking a shot if you just use the camera's self-timer.
Also, if you've got something like an f1.4 lens and want your eyes to be the only things in focus, you could set the lens on manual focus, keep moving closer and further from the camera and keep taking snaps until you get a winner. In the time it takes to wait for the camera's self-timer to countdown to take one shot, you could probably take 20 shots with the remote control.

Secures neatly to the neck strap with integrated clip. It's just about the size of a AA battery. It works right out of the box.

Simple and easy to use. Requires Line of Sight to the front of the camera (Canon XSi), but good to about 15 feet. I've used it for quite a few bulb shots in the dead of night with no problems

Comments about Canon RC-1 Wireless Remote Controller:
As in all things Canon, the RC-1 infrared shutter release works perfectly. My only complaint is the clip that is used to store it on my camera strap. It is a real chore to get it to latch in place. It's installed properly but the thickness of the strap (genuine Rebel T1i) keeps it from latching without a fight. The designers missed the mark on this one.

Once I figured out how to turn on the "remote" function on the camera itself, (I didn't realize it was the same as the timer function), all I had to do was point this at the camera and click away. So easy. So much better than using the timer function! I love it.

Small and attaches to your camera strap for quick access. Very simple and straight forward to use. The range is somewhat limited and you can only point at the front of the camera but for the money ([$]) you can't beat it.

Comments about Canon RC-1 Wireless Remote Controller:
This little guy is so slick! You maybe asking yourself why would i get a remote unless i was shooting myself? there is more than that reason for getting this. If you use a tripod or shoot in low light you MUST have this. the reason is simple: when you trigger the shutter by hand you could cause camera shake! But not with this little guy! its only 2" long and about 3/4" wide it can clip on to your camera strap to go anywhere with you as well. i liked this remote over the other one because of the optional 2 second delay it has. pretty simple to operate and it comes with batteries so no need to worry there. pretty much if you do any tripod work by this remote or a remote to save your self some hassel
