The 35mm f/2 Summicron-M Aspherical is an all new computation utilizing aspheric lens surface technology for this long popular Leica 35mm M lens. Excellent sharpness and contrast rendition and high resolving power are the benefits of this new computation. This lens has outstanding imaging performance across the entire focusing range. Its versatility and all-around performance makes this a world class lens in the high-speed wide-angle category. Equipped with the 35mm f/2 Summicron-M Aspherical lens, the Leica M becomes an elegant compact camera. This lens is also available in a silver chrome plated version.
This lens has been updated with the "6-bit" coding, which allows the digital M camera to read this information optically and to identify which lens is being used. The camera can then (optionally) apply a "final stage" software based vignetting correction (for RAW images the lens used is simply recorded, no change is made).

Beautiful lens with typical Leica sharpness and a wonderful bokeh. Lightweight, compared to the Summilux, and a good walking-around lens.

This is my first Leica lens and there is something truly magical about the image quality -- both the crispness and the tonality. I find subtleties in the colours that I could barely make out with the naked eye. Of course, built quality is also exceptional. I thought it was expensive when I first considered it -- it is, but it's absolutely worth it.

Having both of the non asph 35 Summacron and Summalux lenses, I hesitated about getting this lens, but after using it, I am convinced that it does a better job than either of the other 35's. Pictures are crisper and more evenly lit across all stops. It makes a perfect one lens outfit on the M9, because the sharpness and picture quality even after cropping down obviates the need for a 50 mm lens in most cases.

Comments about Leica Wide Angle 35mm f/2.0 Summicron M Aspherical Manual Focus Lens (6-Bit, Updated for Digital) - Chrome:
I bought this lens for my entry into the digital rangfiner domain. It is a superb lens. I struggled with manual focus for the firt 600 actuations but once I broke myself in I am getting photo sharpness better than my D700 in autofocus. This lens is superb wide open. So good in fact that I rarely shoot stopped down. It is really that good. The focusing is butter smooth. I had a Voightlander as well and there was simply no comparison to the feel of the Leica focusing. A great buy if you can get a hold of one.

I just started using the Leica M9 and a couple of lenses I've been able to get.
I've been a Canon 1Ds3/5Dii user for a number of years but I've been traveling overseas more lately and was finding their size and weight a bit of a hassle.
The whole Leica M package is terrific and once I've been able to find a couple more lenses I'll be able to use it more extensively.
This 35 produces fabulous clear images.
My wallet's lighter too !

I tried out this one along with the 28 Elmarit. Both provided amazing images, but it turns out I see the world more from a 35mm perspective. The images from this lens are sharp with an incredible 3-D feel. You can do detailed reportage shots as well as artistically moody ones as well. Incredibly versatile.

I'm a new amateur photographer. I just got my first Leica M9 was was looking for a lens to accompany it. I wanted a 35mm and was split between a Zeiss or a Leica. The more affordable Zeiss was tempting, and many reviews were very positive. But I wanted my first lens to be a Leica so I got the 35mm f/2.0 Summicron. Fantastic. Great, solid build quality. Manual focusing takes some getting used to but that's my inexperience. Comes with a hood. I'm sure the Zeiss is fine too but can't go wrong with a Leica lens. B&H provides excellent service as always.

I have been shooting d-SLRs since 2003, mostly Canon gear. Recently I became intrigued with Leica and after owning a d-Lux4 for several months, I decided to plunge into the rangefinder world. I purchased a Leica M8.2 and after extensive research decided to get the 35mm f/2.0 Summicron as my first lens. Being used to Canon d-SLR lenses, I was surprised at how small the Summicron lens was. The build is excellent; the quality of the image is outstanding and to me it totally has that Leica "look" ... dreamy/creamy background, perfectly sharp for the objects in focus. It is pure joy to use this lens.
