The Hoya 77 mm Neutral Density x400 (ND) 2.7 Hoya Multi-Coated (HMC) Glass filter has several uses and offers the possibility to achieve otherwise unachievable results. ND filters appear grey and reduce the amount of light reaching the film. They have no effect on color balance.
Multi-coated to minimize reflection at the filter surfaces which reduces flare and ghosting.

This extra dark ND filter, when used at ISO 200 delivers and ISO equivalent of about 1. Pretty dark. In fact, too dark in most cases to see through easily. Used primary when low DoF is needed on sunny days or when trying to eliminate humans and traffic for architectural 'mood' shots.
The main downside is the inability to compose through the lens, and a slight warm or pinkish cast compared to no filter.

works great and is built excellently aside from the fact it gives off a pink- redish hue. solvable by post processing, just annoying that it wasnt really mention.

white balance will not help either. i tested each setting over and over again and got it to a point where it wasnt so bad but still seeing it there makes me wish i didnt spend so much money on it, for such a negative effect.

I personally prefer an hard case instead of the provided pouch. It doesn't preserve mechanical shocks so in deep.

Comments about 77 mm Neutral Density x400 (ND) 2.7 Hoya Multi-Coated (HMC) Glass Filter:
Very good filter. Screws on easy, cleans easy, and cuts light by around 9 stops. Optics are clear, but pictures come out to be a little on the soft side that is not easily corrected by PS or LR. Other than that it helps with a great fluid motion of water, very good streaks with clouds and in the sky and very nice cotton looking water with exposure times of longer that 2 minutes.

I chose this 9 stop ND because it has little colorization. When I wanted more effect, I just added my polarizer.
I really like the silky water I can achieve using this ND.

Drops 9 stops. It's pitch black once you put it on since it stops so much light, so frame before you put it on.
It allows you to get shots you would never get without it - long exposures during day time. This allows to get dreamy water movement in day light, make a crowded plaza look deserted, etc.
A must have equipment since there's no photoshop equivalent...

Exactly what I expected after having other Hoya filters and reviews. The 10 stop adds a whole new dimension to shooting.

The filter is built strong and of great quality. The glass is smooth and very dark. It is hard to get used to at first, but this is a very special filter and does a great job and slowing down the shutter during mid-day.
I have produced some great photograph with it and never leave home without it now.

Comments about 77 mm Neutral Density x400 (ND) 2.7 Hoya Multi-Coated (HMC) Glass Filter:
This is a great filter for long expousre shots even in daylight. I had been saving up for the Singh Ray Vari ND or Vari NDUO but decided to try this filter out since it is much less expensive. The only downside to the filter is that it is hard to compose a shot while looking through the veiw finder unless it is very bright out since the filter is so dark, I have found that using the live view function of my camera helps out a lot. The only other solution would be to compose the shot then place the filter on the lens, if you are shooting during twilight with this filter this is probably what you would have to do since you wouldn't be able to see through it.
