Domke 1" Web Camera Strap with Swivel Quick R... Reviews
As usual, the old standby Domke neckstrap beats the heck out of the competition
I was seduced by an Instagram ad for a SIMPLR neckstrap that looked cool and competent. 42 bucks later I received it and was disappointed with the almost ribbon-thin strap material and lack of any kind of gripping surface. Well, my Sony a7c mk2 doesn't weight too much so I tried it for 6 months. As I thought would happen, the strap was useless when the camera was hanging from my shoulder. It frequently slid off my shoulder. I tried adding 3M anti-slip material (a fix on an old camera bag strap whose grip material peeled off in a few months. The 3M is still going strong, 10 years later) but the strap material was so shiny and flimsy (Did I compare the material to ribbon? See?) that the adhesive would not grip. So I ordered the Domke strap from B&H. Unpacked, I noticed that it was nearly identical to a 30 year old Domke strap that's on my old Rolleiflex, but with a few subtle improvements. The grip material is woven into the strap material, just like the old Domke strap. I struggled a bit with the split rings that attach to the camera but that's because they are more robust and safer for your gear. Hang the camera on your shoulder and it stays there. No slippin' and slidin'. Strap material is thicker. Everything is better than the SIMPLR strap, which I tossed in the garbage. AND the Domke strap from B&H is $10 cheaper. Don't mess around when buying a camera strap. It's the only thing between your shoulder and the ground.
best I've ever used
I'm not brand loyal. But all my cameras in the last 25 years - the Nikons, the Fujis, the Canon, the Plaubel and the 'blad - got Domke straps. They look and feel good, aren't too expensive, don't slip from the shoulder and are reasonably durable. The rubber looses its anti-slippyness after a few years, but that is tobbe expected.
