Comments about Bogen / Manfrotto 3419 Micro Positioning Plate:

I use this plate together with another one the same, so I can adjust in both directions. It is very good for photography, which is what's meant for, but I use for videographic capture as well. It works well for me when filming macro things like leaves, flowers, insects, etc....

Comments about Bogen / Manfrotto 3419 Micro Positioning Plate:

I am very disappointed with this produce. I wish I had read the reviews before purchasing it. I used the slide with a 7 lbs camera. Everytime I refocused the framing changed. The tongue and groove are not tightly matched. Consequently, as the focusing screw is turned the camera rotates.

      Disappointed

Comments about Bogen / Manfrotto 3419 Micro Positioning Plate:

This is a really disappointing product from such a renowned company.Unless the locking screw is wound in pretty tight the whole thing is floppy...not what you want when attempting composition on a macro subject. But when the locking screw is pretty tight it becomes very hard to turn the focusing screw. If you leave the locking knob a little loose so you can comfortably turn the focusing screw, when you have focus and you tighten the locking screw the point of focus changes. This is not the worst thing. The worst thing is there is over 1mm of backlash...when you are trying to move back and forth that last little bit to determine exact focus it takes 1 full turn of the focusing screw to begin moving it from one way to the other. It promises so much but doesn't deliver, save your money for a better device.

      No problems

      By B. Squires

Comments about Bogen / Manfrotto 3419 Micro Positioning Plate:

Great for macro work specifically when using software, such as Helicon Focus, for producing macro images with a greater depth of field. The positioning plate allows you to focus at a point close to you - take the shot then precisely adjust to the next point you want in focus and take another shot - you continue to do this until you have taken enough frames for the software to compile each into on very sharp macro shot with a greater depth of field to clearly express you vision.

      Expertise: Serious Amateur

Problems Encountered: None - The system has a quick release as described - however, it is not a quick release for the tripod - it has a lever on the side to release the slide from the adjusting threads allowing you to quickly slide the plate back and forth. When you are close to the position desired you lock it back down. Then you turn the fine adjust screw to the exact position desired.

Items I Recommend: Quick release for the tripod

      Item Description is Incorrect

      By Ruprect

Comments about Bogen / Manfrotto 3419 Micro Positioning Plate:

Nice for macro work no more moving the tripod to make minoradjustments in focus or framing. I've found it to be verystable and would not spend the extra money for another system.

      Expertise: Amateur

Problems Encountered: This is NOT a quick-release system despite the fact thatit is described as just that on the B&H website. I knew thatby looking at it, so it has caused me no grief, but theyshould correct the description in any case.

      Previous Equivalent Item Owned: N/a

Items I Recommend: QR plate and clamp - be careful to ensure clearance for Arca-swiss type clamps if you'll mount them on top of this unit.
