It's cardioid polar pattern effectively minimizes noise at the off-axis sections of the capsule, creating a focused, concentrated pick up area. The double-gooseneck provides easy microphone positioning. The Pro 47TL is powered via external 9-52V phantom power and self contained electronics eliminate the need for external power supplies and pre-amplifiers.
