I use this backdrop for "prosumer" portrait work. My rig consists of a D700 with an SB-900 and 2 SB-600's (through diffusion domes). I get excellent, pro-quality results with this without the gear and space needed for a dedicated studio. I live in a condo and this backdrop is perfect for the small space. It's easy to wash and care for, and it's very packable.
Make sure you note the size of this backdrop--if you want to do group shots or full-body landscape shots, you'll either need to buy two of these or buy a different, bigger backdrop.

Comments about Backdrop Alley 58x120" Velour Backdrop - Black:
This makes a nice background for portraits of 1-2 small people or head-n-shoulders shots of 3-4 people.
The downside here is that the edge are unfinished without grommets or reinforcements, so you really have to tack it down to get an even hang.

Comments about Backdrop Alley 58x120" Velour Backdrop - Black:
I purchased this backdrop for basic portrait photography. It works well but is not as black as I had hoped. I expected the "velour" to be more velvet-like and deep black. It is more of a suede texture and has a bit of a mottled appearance. It is still a nice backdrop but could be darker.

Great material for getting that true black background without light reflecting off of it - only negative is the size - wish it came in wider than 58" so I wouldn't have to mend 2 together for larger backdrop - the mend is fairly visible

Comments about Backdrop Alley 58x120" Velour Backdrop - Black:
Very nice results and inexpensive but no fastening method.
You need to clamp it or sew in some velcro or sew in a slot.
It's not quite a finished product, no seams, no mounting slot, or mounting method.

Comments about Backdrop Alley 58x120" Velour Backdrop - Black:
Nice and black - doesn't reflect much, which is nice, and the crushed velvet look really hides wrinkles from folding, making it easier to transport. It's also easy to touch up places where the crush pattern shows or slightly reflects. My only wish would be that it were longer and wider, as it's hard to get a lot of depth with this size. That's easily solved by using two, of course. Otherwise, good cloth for the money.

Comments about Backdrop Alley 58x120" Velour Backdrop - Black:
the instructions say that anything you are photographing should be at least 2ft away from the backdrop. i used it with lesser distances and it worked reasonably well... in some shots you could see a slight dark splotchiness pattern but im no pro photographer. overall it definitely helped give me a better black background than other things i have tried.

This backdrop is thick enough and black enough that you can't see through it. Quality color and thickness. I only wish it came wider! Love it!

This is a good backdrop for the money. It has a nice deep black color. You will have to hang it with clamps or drape it over something because there is no way to hang it otherwise. No problems with wrinkling at all.

Comments about Backdrop Alley 58x120" Velour Backdrop - Black:
The price of the background helped me decide to buy it. It's good for single or small (2 or 3) group portraits since it isn't large.
It doesn't wrinkle easily either which is a great plus. And it's machine washable. I recently shot my newborn nephew using this background and he peed right on it, so I am very glad I can just throw it in the washer!

Product was awesome. We needed to cut one of them into two pieces and it cut beautifully with no fraying. It is super fuzzy and gives us the perfect texture to work on.
