No Small Achievement
Mark Vb is the latest version of the Alan Gordon Mark V Director's Viewfinder, which was a winner of a Technical Achievement Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Updates from Mark V
  • The Mark Vb has all the features of the Mark V plus new markings on the Aspect Ratio ring, making it easier to read for both film and video use.
  • The 1/2" video window has been eliminated and replaced with the current video chip standard of 2/3".
  • Film sizes and video formats are color-coded for quick reading.
Super 35 Sensors
The Mark Vb Directors viewfinder will give you readings for a number of digital sensors within 10% of a given lens focal length.

To achieve this, set the aspect ratio ring to 16:9 and read the 35mm window for Super 35 to match the following digital camera sensors: ARRI ALEXA, Sony F35 PL, Sony F65, RED EPIC-X, RED SCARLET, RED ONE, Canon 7D, and the Phantom HD Gold.

12:1 Zoom Ratio Ring
You may adjust the viewfinder to the aspect ratio that is appropriate for your film or video application. Available aspect ratios are:

  • 1.33:1 standard TV.
  • 16:9 HDTV.
  • 1.85:1 standard 35mm ratio.
  • 2.40:1 anamorphic widescreen, also known as Panavision or Cinemascope.
Additional Features
  • Six glass elements produce the sharpest image possible.
  • Film sizes and video formats are color-coded for quick reading.
  • The eyepiece focusing ring can be adjusted to sharpen the image at any given setting, much like the viewfinder adjustment on your camera.
  • A collapsed rubber eyecup provides comfort and prevents scratching your glasses.

Alan Gordon Enterprises 1000-01 Reviews

Highly recommend for directors

If you're a young, aspiring film student and/or filmmaker, especially if you want to direct or be a cinematographer and even if you just love cameras, I highly recommend this for you! It is perfect to compose shots before, and instead of, looking through a camera first. Nevertheless, it feels like you're actually looking through a camera. And you're actually watching a movie, only you become, metaphorcially, the camera and can move through space. You'll love it the first moment you put your eye through it!!

Good
