A popular accessory for macro shooting, the Wimberly PP100 Plamp is an easily positionable arm used to hold macro subjects and other useful objects. One end clamps to your tripod, while the clip grasps the object.
The Plamp holds a reflector or gobo in just the right spot to get that burst of light or shadow that changes a shot from okay to extraordinary. Get that annoying branch out of the shot without disturbing anything else. Position the gooseneck arm and a grey card to shade your lens or take a light reading. Or, hold a flower steady so that the shutter speed can be slow enough to get the aperture you'll need for extreme depth of field at macro distances.

I bought this item to use with a new macro lens and it did not disappoint. It attaches easily to tripod legs, table tops and any other relatively narrow surface. Within it's obvious weight limits, objects supported are held firmly in place to allow precise focus and framing to take your shot as you want without it sagging or drooping.
The only minor criticism I have had so far is that one of the elements of the smaller clamp is white which intruded into the background of my framing of a flower. I was able to address it and I guess that if the background had been white I would be writing this about the black element. So the obvious solution is to be aware of the plamp and frame accordingly.
I have used it to hold flowers to stop them swaying in the breeze as well as to hold reflectors etc. It is now an essential part of my nature and table-top photography kit.

It works, but not very well. For macro work, it will stop gentle wind. But, fine adjustments is very difficult, and feels a kind of stiff. It is not strong enough if you want to use it hold a reflector or shade, even a small one ~12 inches.

Comments about Wimberley Plamp Articulating Arm & Clamp:
This is an ideal accessory for macro photography where you wish to have the object elevated or want to utilize just the right angle for the backdrop. It does not hold heavy objects but for flowers or other similar lightweight subjects, it is perfect.

I was looking for something to hold items steady while I used my macro lens on a tripod. The Plamp has done exactly what I needed and it far exceeded my needs and demands.

These things let you hold subjects still in a slight, or even to move such subjects as flowers to a better position. Don't leave home without one.

Comments about Wimberley Plamp Articulating Arm & Clamp:
This is a very useful little product. What I use it mostly for is taking macro shots of tiny insects that I don't want blowing around in the wind. I'll attach the plamp to a tripod and then have it hold up a small branch with the subject. I know it can also hold reflectors as well as objects to create shade on your subject. I bought one for a friend because he kept borrowing mine.

Used the plump to stabllized a rose in the wind, worked well. Clamped on the tripod and left enough room to not show up in the image. Liked the idea that an extension could be added on if necessary. Only con might be that the plamp is to strong for fragile stems.

Great tool for holding small things out of the way, or for positioning small reflectors, which is what I use if for most.

Comments about Wimberley Plamp Articulating Arm & Clamp:
As a newcomer to macro photography, the plamp was a great discovery for me. I puzzled over ways and means to hold and stabilise difficult subjects, such as plants, holding reflectors, etc. I learned about the Plamp from 'Digital Macro Photography', by Ross Hoddonott. Could not find a source in Australia, so I searched the net, and found B&H in New York. I found it to be easy to use, and very versatile. And the product was shipped very promptly, taking only 4 or 5 days dorr-to door.

Comments about Wimberley Plamp Articulating Arm & Clamp:
I needed this product for my macro photography, in particular for a series of close ups of flower that I am planning.
This is spot on to keep the flowers still and versatile enough to tilt the flower for better framing.
The only thing is not so great is the orange bit of the clamp, I would have preferred a rubber material to have more grip and not simple plastic.

Comments about Wimberley Plamp Articulating Arm & Clamp:
The Plamp is great. It clamps securely to your tripod while being flexible and long enough to hold reflectors, diffusers, or macro subjects. When using with collapsible reflectors its clip needs to be spread over a larger area. I use a couple of Popsicle sticks to accomplish this.

Comments about Wimberley Plamp Articulating Arm & Clamp:
The plamp works as advertised, can hold small objects, and you can twist it around in any direction to position the object as you want. It is a bit hard to use to position objects accurately because when you let go of it it springs back a bit. It is tough to frame really small objects. The other problem is that when you touch the camera to focus manually, the plamp vibrates so focusing is hard. I ended up not clamping it on the tripod and rather than moving the object to focus it, I moved the tripod.

Use for holding reflectors and diffusers for macro work. Also use for holding flowers still when there is a breeze.
The clamp at the end used to attach to the diffusers/reflectors could be stronger. The wind tends to make the diffuser fall off.

Comments about Wimberley Plamp Articulating Arm & Clamp:
This is a must for any macro shooter that doesn't have a more elaborate wind block. It hooks to the tripod, & the other end gently grabs the flower, etc. to hold as still as possible. Don't expect it to hold anything heavier than a flower or small branch. The clamp on that end is not too strong so it won't hold a reflector or other large or heavy object.

Personally I have two Plamps and love them. Don't add to much length. One arm has maybe four inches added, beyond that there is a sag factor.

Comments about Wimberley Plamp Articulating Arm & Clamp:
This product is well made and does the job. To me the biggest issue is the small clamp is not very strong. It is this way by design so that when it is holding a plant stem it will not crush it. However it also means the clamp is not very strong when it comes to holding other things like reflectors.
I also have the McClamp and I believe they are a superior solution. Their smaller clamp is much strong for holding things like reflectors. For holding plant stems they have two pieces of neopreme inside the clamp that holds very well with no damage. The McClamp also comes with a soft zip case making it easier to pack and carry.

Comments about Wimberley Plamp Articulating Arm & Clamp:
This product is used to hold items such as plants, paper, light boards, etc... in macro and still life photography. It is a very valuable item which I have been looking for for a long time.
The fact that the arm can be twisted in any form and shape makes it very flexible for all kind of "jobs".
However, it's a shame that it cannot hold heavier items such as a proper mini reflector or flash.
