I own a Canon hv30 and was concerned about zoom-through; also that some recommend getting the 58mm model hd-6600 but so far have found performace to be excellent. I also had looked into Canon's equivalent, but the Raynox advantage was in three areas: 1. Raynox was about $30 less expensive. 2. Raynox's Black color matches my hv30 where Canon is only silver. 3. Raynox comes with front threading and Canon does not. Yes, though only a beginner, I did some research before my purchase and, as I said, Raynox has fulfilled it's claims and I'm very satisfied.

The curve of the front lens makes this wide angle converter unusable around lights and in sunlight. The flares are impossible to get rid of. Unless you're lighting is perfect don't even consider this lens. I had mine and was forced to send it back. Softened images around the edges and camera went out of focus during zoom through close ups. Even with a polarizing filter the flare didn't go away. Green diamonds everywhere on the view screen
so bad that the camera tried to focus on them instead of the subject. I would not recommend this product. I tried this lens with an AG-HMC 40 camera that I use for an outdoor show. Good thing B&H has such a good return policy

Comments about Raynox HD-6600 43mm 0.66x Pro Wide Angle Lens:
After reading the pros and cons about this lens, I made the decision to purchase it. Professionally, I do not know what there is not to like about this lens. I have used it in many different applications from indoor to outdoor use and it performs exceptionally well - even when zooming in. As a professional photographer and videographer, it is a wonderful addition to my arsenal of cameras and lenses. I wouldn't leave home without it...

No distortion, works well with zoom, opens up a small room. You can spend more money but the HD 6600 gets the job done.

The first thing I noticed when I attached the lens to my Panasonic AG-HMC40 is that I couldn't see any distortion or blurriness around the edges, even when zoomed in all the way. The lens connects to the camera perfectly, and it does exactly what it says on the box.For [$]this is a fantastic lens that I plan on using for a long time

The lens is great for the money my only problem with it is that in cold weather the rings dont work well with my hv30. When you zoom in to the max you get vignetting.

This lens was recommended to me for my Panasonic HMC-40 camcorder. It delivers a great image but, definitely isn't zoom through for the last 1/3 of the zoom range. It loses complete focus during zooming. If you've got the HMC-40 unless you're ok not zooming this isn't the lens for you.
Lens is low priced and seems to be of high quality. It does have lots of features like threads for filters and a rubber ring to help you screw it to the camera easier. I sure wish it was zoom through with my camera. Had to send it back to B&H. B&H didn't give me any problems on the return so far. Great company not so great lens for my camera

Works great with my Canon Vixia HV40. I don't notice any lower picture quality or distortion at all. I'm very happy with the extra range of vision and this will be extremely helpful when shooting in tight indoor locations.I've posted a brief demonstration of this lens on YouTube:[@]

Comments about Raynox HD-6600 43mm 0.66x Pro Wide Angle Lens:
I use this lens with the HV40, and the added field of vision in tight spaces, small rooms, is just right. Distortion is very limited -- not noticeable in most cases.
Also, I find the the 72mm filter thread to be convenient, as my HVR-Z5 also uses 72mm filters!
Affordable. That's the bottom line.

I have a .33 and decided to get this lens for the wide yet not so round look. Lens looks great, still can see plenty at close distance and everything looks normal and can zoom in! Great lens to have around. Love it

I have been through several wide angle lenses that muddied up the picture. This one seemed to be transparent.
Also, I did not see lens boxing that occurs with cheaper.

I used this lens on my Canon HG10 and I have to say that it's a necessary upgrade on the camera and I can say that this lens is really neat and strong, and also I didn't see any difference on lighting on using it or not.

Comments about Raynox HD-6600 43mm 0.66x Pro Wide Angle Lens:
This lens was an inexpensive upgrade to my Canon HV30. I looked at other lenses, but this one offered the widest view with the most zoom-capability (up to 80%; anything more is blurry) for the least amount of ca$h. Definitely worth checking out. Great product if you want to upgrade and refine your video production capabilities!

This wide angle is very practical, especially for exteriors and action, and has a very professional look. It comes in a very transportable box. But when you close up the outline becomes difuse.

Used on a Panasonic HD camcorder (HDC-TM300). Much less expensive than a genuine Panasonic lens. Main application is to get 2/3 of a football field in view from the spectators stand. Unit feels solid & heavy. No problems screwing it on to the camcorder. Good looking video under nighttime lights; seemed to let plenty of light through. Some flairing from bright lights, but that's hard to avoid. My untrained eye could not discern any edge distortion. Some additional softness when zoomed in, but that's not normal usage of a wide angle lens. Comes with lens caps on both ends (push to release type on front), and servicable soft plastic box with foam that should protect it well when not in use. Great value; recommended.

Great addition to my JVC GZ-HD6 when it comes to filming video in small areas... makes the place look bigger! The only thing i did not like was when i zoom in all the way on my cam it get's somewhat blurry with a bright glow around different objects... could be the camera has issues cause of the lense, it's a cheep camera... but this only happens indoors mostly.

Comments about Raynox HD-6600 43mm 0.66x Pro Wide Angle Lens:
Video is short on the wide end and way to long on the tele. This adapter makes up for it nicely. Careful with lens flare the front element is 72mm and quite convex, use a screw on rubber hood it helps. Also when zoomed through to tele it gives a nice ethereal soft-edged effect. It's heavy (real glass), weighs as much as most camcorders.
