I use this teleconverter with Nikon's 600mm AF-S lens to photograph nesting birds. I only owned one other teleconverter in my life and it was a dog, so I vowed I would never use one again. Until this project. I really needed the extra focal length to get right inside the nests with the chicks as they were hatching out. The converter's performance astounded me. There is no compromise in terms of resolution, contrast, or autofocusing. I do find some slight darkening in the corners when shooting in full-frame FX format with my D3. But there is no vignetting with my D2X. When using the 600 on a DX format camera, this teleconverter gives you an effective focal length of about 1400mm. This combination enabled me to capture shots of chicks hatching out of eggs from a distance of more than 100 feet. I was able to clearly see details in the iris of tiny hatchlings from that distance. I would recommend this product highly to anyone!

My passion is nature photography and this is what I do to relax. I purchased the TC-14E II 1.4x Teleconverter to help my 500mm f4 reach out a little further. My AF-S Teleconverter TC-20E II is sharper then this one. Shooting objects at a distance the images are not sharp at all but shooting something up close I can't tell any difference with or without it. I have used a friends TC-14E II 1.4x Teleconverter and the images I obtained were very sharp and very clean at about 150 yards. This one is no good past 20 yards. I guess I got a bad one and I'm very disappointed. I ordered the USA version and I'm not even sure that is what I received because "Nikon USA" is nowhere to be found on the Teleconverter, paperwork, or the box. I have always been happy with Nikon after 7 years of dedicated use and this is the first time they have let me down.

Comments about Nikon TC-14E II 1.4x Teleconverter for D-AF-S & AF-I Lenses ONLY:
I made careful tests with the AFS Nikon 300mm f/4 on a D7000 and it shows no loss in image quality even shooting wide open.
With the old AFS 70-200mm f/2.8 VR set at 160-200 mm image quality is fine as long as one closes 1 stop (just as the zoom without a TC requires). Below that focal range it can be used wide open.

Comments about Nikon TC-14E II 1.4x Teleconverter for D-AF-S & AF-I Lenses ONLY:
I use this when doing some large-field sport work in conjunction with a f/2.8 70-200. The single stop loss is easily acceptable for performance and still keeps the focus fast. Not unexpectedly, there is a little loss in contrast but it is worth it to get the extra 80mm at the far end.

Comments about Nikon TC-14E II 1.4x Teleconverter for D-AF-S & AF-I Lenses ONLY:
If you own one of the compatible lenses this is a must have item. To regain the DX multiplication factor with FX cameras or simply extending the reach for DX's. The results are very crisp and one still retains excellent focusing and depth of field control with no loss of functionality.

Comments about Nikon TC-14E II 1.4x Teleconverter for D-AF-S & AF-I Lenses ONLY:
I've been using this with the Nikkor 300mm af-s f/4 and it works quite well. I don't notice a significant difference in focusing speed, and the image quality remains top notch.

Comments about Nikon TC-14E II 1.4x Teleconverter for D-AF-S & AF-I Lenses ONLY:
Used with the 'fatboy' Nikon 200mm VR1 F2. Can't fault the TC-14. However when used with the 200mm I do believe it is no replacement for a Nikon 300mm VR F2.8 in terms of IQ. But in the end, how anybody complain (for the price)?

Comments about Nikon TC-14E II 1.4x Teleconverter for D-AF-S & AF-I Lenses ONLY:
Like all their lenses Nikon is also real proud of their teleconverters. But, you KNOW that going in. That said, the TC-14E works exactly as advertised with both my 70-200 and 200-400 VRII Nikon lenses. It gives me 840mm equivalent on my D300 with very little added length or weight. Neither lens loses any resolution or sharpness as far as I can tell.

Comments about Nikon TC-14E II 1.4x Teleconverter for D-AF-S & AF-I Lenses ONLY:
I got TC-14E II together with my Nikon 300mm f/4. It works as described and quality is comparable to 300mm f/4 lens. Together with 300mm f/4, it gives me 420mm. Under low light condition, sometimes focuing does hunt a bit when shooting small birds in the trees.

Comments about Nikon TC-14E II 1.4x Teleconverter for D-AF-S & AF-I Lenses ONLY:
It probably works fine if you have a lens that it will fit. My Nikon 80-400 didn't, nor did my Sigma 150 Macro, but B&H took the entender back with no hassles.

Comments about Nikon TC-14E II 1.4x Teleconverter for D-AF-S & AF-I Lenses ONLY:
Using a full frame camera I needed to get some extra reach from my 70-200. Adding the teleconverter gives me that extra reach needed to take those close in shots I was looking for. Very happy with he performance of the teleconverter and have seen no degradation in the images taken so far. Auto focus is still snappy and resulting photos are very sharp. Very happy with this addition to my photo kit.

Comments about Nikon TC-14E II 1.4x Teleconverter for D-AF-S & AF-I Lenses ONLY:
I have been using this T/C exclusively with the Nikkor 600mm/f4 VRII and the camera has been either D90 (for extra crop factor) or D3s...
Either way this T/C integrates wonderfully well with the 600mm lens, and I find that sharpness is maintained. AF is possibly just a tad slower, but the extra focal length is well worth it…
Love it!

I mostly use this teleconverter on my Nikkor 500mm f/4 VR lens with wonderful results when birding. There is little if any loss of image quality (IQ), and autofocus still works perfectly with this teleconverter on the lens.

It's a quality optics TC. It's dedicated for AF-S and AF-I only but can be modified to be used universally with manual lenses. I modified it and am currently using with manual focus 500mm f/4P. The results are really great.

Comments about Nikon TC-14E II 1.4x Teleconverter for D-AF-S & AF-I Lenses ONLY:
Great addition for my Nikkor 70-200mm, f/2.8. It's also great on my Nikkor 105mm, f/2.8 macro.
Professional, high quality construction that extends the reach of my glass without costing too much light reduction (f/2.8 goes to f/4).
This doesn't work on all lenses so be sure to heed the compatibility chart.

being professional in something other than photography had lens limits (ie there is no 400, 500, or 600 in my future). hoped to get extra reach for 70-200 2.8 and 300 2.8 while used on D700 and D300S for sports and wildlife.
limited use to date but focuses fast and images appear sharp. does what i had anticipated. happy enough that might consider the 2.0 III in future.

I needed this for a church wedding that had restrictions keeping me behind the back pew of the church. In addition, no flash was allowed. I used this with my D700 and 70-200mm f2.8. It worked like a charm, even keeping the ISO at 3200 and lower, the photos turned out great. I was able to get close enough to the ceremony that the couple will now have nice, intimate shots of the wedding. I was thrilled with the results! Can't wait to use the same combo for my son's football games in the fall. Worth every penny.

Comments about Nikon TC-14E II 1.4x Teleconverter for D-AF-S & AF-I Lenses ONLY:
Recently used with AF-S NIKKOR 200-400mm f 4g ED VR II lens photographing migrating birds. Very good tool for assisting with compositional set up. Handles very well. Flight shots were sharp as were set up shots. For the price Nikon could have supplied a better protective case. Tip: I picked up a lens baby case and the TC-14E II fits into wonderfully. Great for keeping out the sand/elements and you can stuff it in a sweatshirt pocket/storage bag when not in use.
