Wein 990-560 Overview

The Wein Safe-Sync Hot Shoe to Hot Shoe regulates and reduces the flash sync voltage of the flash from up to 400V to less than 6V. This is especially important for current automated SLRs or digital cameras when used with older flashes or lighting systems.

This model mounts directly to a camera's hot shoe and provides a hot shoe on top and a PC female flash connection on the side.  You can have a flash connected to the hot shoe and a flash being triggered by the PC female connection-and unlike so many other offerings of this type, both will fire simultaneously from the same signal. The exception to this rule pertains when using 1 or 2 flashes that are already under 5V sync voltage. In this case, the flash or flashes will not fire.

Doesn't work with any of my flashes

I don't know what's wrong with the shoe design on the top of this device but it doesn't work with any of my flashes. They're all simple one-pin flashes, there's no reason for it to not work. They don't fire from camera shutter button or from the test button. They do fire if you jiggle the flash in the shoe. Tested with several flashes that work fine directly on a camera. It doesn't seem to be making contact properly.

Works pretty well, with one flaw

This seems to work well, I tested it on a flash with a known high trigger voltage and it works without any real problems. The only flaw is that it does not fit tightly onto all camera hot shoes, there should be some way to tighten it down. Sometimes it fit so loosely that it failed to fire. If I was shooting film it would be a wasted frame. Otherwise, a good product.

question

I have one of these that I used with a Nikon coolpix 8700 and an old Vivitar 283 flash. It worked great. But it won't slide into the hot shoe of my Nikon 7100. Why not? Can I safely use my Vivitar 283 with my 7100 if I can get it into the shoe?
Asked by: Anonymous
The Wein Safe-Sync Hot Shoe to Hot Shoe mounts directly into standard hot shoes such as the one on the Nikon D7100. You will safely be able to use the Vivitar 283 with the D7100 using this device.

question

1/ Is this product's trigger voltage safe for my Pentax K10?2/ Will my Vivitar 273 thrystor be safe to use with the Wein product and my K10, and will the flash synchronize with K10 automatic mode?thanks
Asked by: Anonymous
The Wein Safe Sync Hot Shoe to Hot Shoe will allow you use your older flash on top of your Pentax K10. It will reduce the trigger voltage to a safe voltage to use with the camera. As for the mode that the flash would trigger at, that would be dependent on the exposure mode that is set on the camera.

question

Is this product compatible with the Sony A7 mirrorless camera? I'm interested in using it on the A7 for studio photography. Thank you!
Asked by: Anonymous
The Sony Multi-interface shoe is a bit unique compared to other standard ISO shoes used by other brands. This safe sync should fit onto the camera's hot shoe and function, however on occasion there are 3rd party accessories like this which have trouble lining up the center pin for contact to fire. If you purchase this and it does not fit/function well for you, you may return it within 30 days of the original purchase.

That is a hotshoe adapter and it will work with a male PC sync cord. The other end does not matter.
