The Sunpak 8001 UT is a great economical full-size tripod for lighter loads. Oversized, single action locks with rubber leg tips give non-skid stability. In addition, spikes emerge from those feet for extra traction on looser terrain. It is fast to set up and will comfortably hold most light 35mm equipment and DSLR cameras.

I use the 8001UT Tripod by Sunpack for shooting DSLR stills and video. It's great for traveling and getting to remote locations where you never know when a tripod could come in handy.
It's great because it's light weight - a mere 3 pounds. Despite being light weight, it is fairly sturdy and won't slide around too much on slippery surfaces. But be careful not to bump it! It has the ability to stick right into the ground and elevate to about 60 inches. It's minimum height is just below 22 inches so it can break down small enough to fit in a suitcase, a duffle bag, or a large backpack. It's rubber grip features are sturdy attributes. What is really amazing about this consumer level tripod is that it has exceptionally smooth tilt, pan, and raising features. It's not plastic or a hard painted metal so it elevates smooth and swift.
The only down side is the plastic tripod plate. It is helpful and a brilliant idea that the tripod comes with two plates but it would be nice if it was a better quality material. There's nothing wrong with the plate itself and the cheap tripod plate probably cuts down on the price.
Overall this is one of the best consumer tripods available for video and still cameras today. It's light weight, smooth, cheap, and compact.

I purchased without looking first and deeply regretted it. It's way too heavy to carry. Have never used it and probably wont. I tried to return it, but I didn't have the original box. Good thing it wasn't expensive.

I will use this as a vacation tripod for scenic video and as a "self portriate" platform for my digital SLR.
It will serve well for those purposes, especially with the 2nd camera-base lock which will allow exchanging cameras with ease.
This is not a $600 fluid head but it has an easy adjustable drag feature that allows panning or following moving tallent.
I would reccomend it as a great value in its price range.

This tripod is light, though very sturdy and easy to set up. I use it with a Cannon EOS Rebel T1i (500D) and it hold its weight with a 55mm - 250mm lens no problem. I use it to take group photos inside as well as outside and also landscape photos. I would definitely recommend this product to a friend.

I've used it for sports and landscape shots so far. I like the 2 quick release plates that come with it. It folds up very small and it's light-weight. Smooth panning for video, too!

I own a Konus 20-60x100mm spotting scope ( 6 lbs). Could not find a reasonably priced tripod under $ 300
Took a chance and ordered this 8001UT. It held the scope in an angular position for 48 hrs.
IT is not studio quality but it does work in the field. All Konus Spotting scope owners should order this tripod.

Great tripod for the money. Only thing I don't really like is that leveling ball is covered up when mounted to the camera. Other than that it's definitely worth the price..

Everything that I expected. I use the tripod for a spotting scope that sits lakeside on my deck. I can see anything on the lake out to a mile. The extra mounting plate that is included is on my digital camera so I can sway the scope out and snap in the camera in seconds. Height, left to right, and tilt adjustments are handy and easy to operate. I love this inexpensive tripod!

This tripod is a fantastic value as long as you dont have a heavy camera. The tripod itself is not much heavier than the cheaper model. its sturdy and close to eye level without extending the center bar. it also comes with a second camera mount incase youre prone to loosing them. It also has a built in level which is perhaps the best feature since most low end tripods do not include one.
