This Impact Light Stand is heavy duty, black aluminum, with sure-twist section locks and air cushioning.
Air cushioning gently lowers the light, preventing damage to light fixtures and fingers when section locks have not been properly tightened.

This light stand is great. The locks are very comfortable to adjust and sturdy. I really like the air cushioning feature as it allows the light to not accidently drop to fast or hard. The hieght of 9.5' is wonderful for me during weddings while using a second off camera speedlight for additional lighting or in the field portraiture. There is more than enough hieght to work with depending on your purpose. The only draw back is that it is not very compact, but for a heavy duty light stand, what should you expect. I also use a 42 in Octobox with it and seems to hold up very well.

These might be okay if you set them up once and leave them up indefinitely, but if you are going to be setting up and taking down regularly, spend the extra money and get something WAY better. These stands don't extend and deploy smoothly and their components are made of plastic. I've got a couple of these and i've got a couple Promaster LS-4s. The Promaster stands are more durable, more stable, have all metal components, smooth action and snap-locks, rather than screw (makes adjustment much faster). The Promasters were nearly twice as much, but it was money I'd spend again in a heartbeat.
Summary: If you're only setting these up once and never taking them down, fine. But if you moving around a lot, spend the extra money. Going with these cheaper stands will just result in frustration.

I am pleased with this stand, it is definately tall
enough and has a good wide footing. The twist locks hold well and like the air cushioned shafts that lower slowly . I do not like the large stud made into the top of the stand. My Novatron studio flashes will not mount on this type stud so I will have to spend more money to buy an adapter to mount.

Comments about Impact Air-Cushioned Heavy Duty Light Stand - Black, 9.5' (2.9m):
I needed an affordable stand for additional lighting and the 9.5' Impact light stand works well for what I was looking for. It is affordable, sturdy and easy to set up. I'm a little concerned about the plastic fittings and how well they will hold up but for the price (and weight) I cannot complain.

A finely constructed stand. The air cushioning is a great feature. Helps prevent damage to your instrument if you forget to tighten the lock.

I use this with a 50x50 softbox and b400 for newborn photography. Overall, I like it. I find it is fairly adjustable and certainly stable enough for my uses. I do wish it lowered to the ground a little bit closer though. It also stays set up so I don't have to worry about set up or take down over and over again- it could break with too much adjustments I think. Basically, a good, basic stand for the money it is.

Comments about Impact Air-Cushioned Heavy Duty Light Stand - Black, 9.5' (2.9m):
Stable, relatively light, good air cushioning, more than enough height for most purposes. On cons part I would say too tall when collapsed to fit it in a "normal size" baggage for airports.

This is an exceptionally sturdy, well built, reasonably priced light stand. There may be better stands, but in this price range I don't think it can be beat.

Comments about Impact Air-Cushioned Heavy Duty Light Stand - Black, 9.5' (2.9m):
This stand is very attractive and the air-cushioned feature is very nice but I would not consider it heavy duty by any means. It may be able to support a lot of weight straight down but the legs have very little side to side strength. Meaning once there is a lot of weight on top of the stand and you were to move the whole assembly hitting a cord or other object, the legs may distort from there current position of being basically 120 degrees apart from one another.

Excellent that are sturdy. For the price you can't beat the quality. The are large, don't bend when placing a strobe on the stand, and have a large base to offer greater stability.

Comments about Impact Air-Cushioned Heavy Duty Light Stand - Black, 9.5' (2.9m):
Needed one light stand over 8 feet and this one was the right price. Have bought other Impact products and have been pleased with them. This allowed me to place the off camera flash in a position close to 10' ceilings for a down-light for defused top lighting, along with two other light sources. Fairly substantial, but light weight, easy to use and will not drop down and pinch your hand, study construction

Comments about Impact Air-Cushioned Heavy Duty Light Stand - Black, 9.5' (2.9m):
I had ordered a background kit from another manufacturer and not from B&H prior to these stands. I know, a bad plan at the onset. Anyway I returned my previous purchase and bought these stands to create my own background system, always trying to save a buck if I can do so and still have something that works. These stands seem great to me, they are well made, fit and finish is great, I think they will be perfect for my application. In addition they will double as light stands, the ol' double deal, I love it. I bought them as the other "Impact" items I've purchased from B&H have been just peachy. I've not yet put them to the test during a shoot but expect to do that in the next few weeks. Thus .. so far .. so good.

i finished playing with cheap cowboy/generic stand that i can only trust it with cheap speedlites.
Recently join the Einstein club, and needed a better stand, this stand fits the bill and beefy but light enough for my need (on-location shoots).
