This aluminum Impact 8' Air-cushioned Light Stand is 4-section light support with sure-twist section locks.
If you forget to tighten any section with your light mounted, the light slowly descends, thanks to the air-cushioned action. This useful feature saves equipment and fingers from harm during busy photo sessions.

I bought this light stand for my boyfriend as a Christmas gift. He is a photographer who already had one light stand and 2 umbrellas. Before Christmas he mentioned to me that it would be really useful to have a second light stand that is sturdy and roughly 7-8 ft tall. I did some research on [...] reviews and ended up purchasing this particular model. When my boyfriend opened the package, I realized just how easy the light stand was to erect/assemble. He smiled and explained to his family what it was and what he intended to use it for. I explained that someone had recommended using sandbags to stabilize the stand when using it outdoors. But unless it was a windy day, the legs are so sturdy and slide into locked position so nicely, that it's hard to imagine needing the sandbags! Overall, I think it was a great bargain for a great light stand.

This stand is about what I expected for the price. I will only use this for small lights (anything smaller than a 1K). The construction is aluminum, with cheap plastic knobs. The supposed 5/8" baby pin on top seemed small so my light when mounted had a little play. Make sure you bag this one, the floor spread isn't very big. Overall a very cheap stand that will work with small lights.

It's flimsy, it can't hold much, it'll probably fall apart after heavy use and it's [$]. It is perfect for the price. If you need something cheap to support other equipment or hold a flag, this is it.

I use this product for photography and video related work. It holds my Lowel pro i-light. It works well for that. I haven't had any problems with it after 5 months of semi-regular use.

Two of these were purchased to hold Photogenic monolights. They are sturdy, easy to erect.
On the negative side, the air part seems noticeable when folding the stands up for storage.

I use this product with a constant light source and umbrella. It is perfect for strobist type lighting or lightweight strobes. The build is nice except for knobs to loosen and tighten the legs needs to be screwed in a lot to keep the legs stable. I would buy it again for the value. There are better light stands available, but for more than double the price.

The Impact 8 foot Light Stand is light weight, easy to set up, compact & the sections lock securely with little pressure. The top has both a 1/4 inch thread & a standard 5/8" stud below it with a plastic protector for the threads. Air cushion design keeps stand from dropping too quickly if you loosen a section & are not holding the top.

I really like the Impact 8 ft lightstand. It is easy to open & the sections lock securely with little pressure. I like the top also. It has a 1/4' threaded tip on top of a standard 5/8" stud that some larger lights use. There is a plastic screw cap to protect the threads. My slaves have 1/4 inch threaded holes in the bottom so I can attach them directly to the stand without any accessories. My Impact adjustable shoe umbrella bracket can attach either to the 1/4 inch threaded top or to the 5/8" stud. The stand folds up compact. Because it is so light I feel that it would be a good idea to use sand bags on the leg struts for heavy lights (which Impact recomends with their umbrella bracket. They sell two kinds).

Very sturdy, up to 8ft and good when matched with a good umbrella bracket.
But if you want to use it outside you will need a sandbag.

I have tested this out at home but not in the field yet. So far it seems to be great.

Very cost effective and very low weight. Those are the reasons I jumped onto these units. Used them for the 1st time and no worries.
Today used them with 1lb 500 watt set ups no problem. I would resist much above 3 lbs unless you are using bags to stabilize the triangular base. These are pretty light duty but for a run and gun type of operation really are great!

For the price I thought I was buying a cheap light stand, but since I'm not a pro I was ok with that. However, when it arrived I was surprised to find that this light stand is great. It's durable and built well. I'm actually going to buy 2 more now.

Comments about Impact Air-cushioned Light Stand (Black, 8'):
I bought 2 of these 8' Impact stands as part of the Impact VA902 light kit, which consists of the 2 stands, 2 heads, 6 CF bulbs and 2 diffusers. The stands' air-cushion feature works well and prevents my fingers from getting pinched when lowering the sections of the stands. I can use the stands set up on the floor, or set them on a table top with the stand sections all in their lowered position. The tightening knobs on the leg sections work well, but there is a slight amount of play in the heads relative to where they attached to the stand, even when the knob is tightened hard. This is not at all a problem, however. The stand and legs collapse and fold up easily. These are great value stands for light-duty in-house product shots; they're not pro-grade, but in no way is it flimsy. I am very pleased with them.

I probably won't use this very often, but it seems sturdy enough for my purposes, and the price is right. I would probably make a larger investment if I were using a light stand on a daily/frequent basis.

This is the second of these stands that I own. For the size and weight this is a wonderful boom stand. Packs up relatively small; resonably sturdy. The only issue is that you really need a good counterweight to keep the stand from falling over when you have anything attached to the boom.
For a small studio, it's perfect. It probably the best lightweight stand I have.

These stands do their job. Not over impressed by the "air cushion", but for the height and price, they are hard to beat.
