I bought the 484RC2 to use on a Joby Gorillapod SLR Zoom flexible mini-tripod. I couldn't decide between the 484RC2 or the 486RC2, but after receiving and attaching it to the Gorillapod, I was really glad I went for the 484. The 484 is about as big a ball head you would want to use on a Gorillapod SLR Zoom. The 486 model would have simply been too big for it.
This is a very well built ballhead and plenty strong enough to support most any D-SLR setup. It's also very smooth in operation. The quick release mount is a real joy to use. You can leave the release lever pulled out and then when you set the camera down into the mount it will automatically click and lock into place. Great for when you have to set the camera down with one hand. And there's even a secondary lock to prevent the lever from accidentally getting pulled open.
For a ballhead in this price range it is solid and very well thought out. It's a great inexpensive ball head that would compliment any medium weight tripod.

I bought this head for two reasons, 1) a manftotto quick relase compatible with my other Manfrotto heads (better heads!) so I do not have to mix and match the shuttle on the camera,2) it is the lightest quick release head they make. I own two of these, one for my monopole and one for my hiking tripod (also light). This head is a bit cumberson to adjust. The release has to be turned to release, there is basically no partial release just on or off (unless you are very careful in turning the release. Once off the camera is free to move in all directions and will unless you hold it. Have to hold camera until release turned back. This is the major reason I ranked this a 2. You can not release for one axis movement and once release it moves in all directions. Major pain when doing panoramas or trying to following action. Given its price, I would like more, but Manfrotto has no other heads even close to this weight.

I bought this as part of a thank you give for an up and coming photographer. It works well, is steady, locks down tight and makes camera adjustments very easy.

This is my first ballhead, I used to use a Panning head. I really like the adjustability of this!
Quick adjustments with no excessively large knobs or levers!
The quick release feature is really nice as well.

This is one of the best tripod heads you can get for the cash. It is rock-solid, holds position well, and is easy to maneuver.
Not only is it sturdy, but it is very compact and low-profile. All around, a must-buy.

Comments about Manfrotto by Bogen Imaging 484RC2 Mini Ballhead (Quick Release):
Bottom line is it works and works right. I use it on a monopod and it's just right: Not too big, not too small, holds firm without having to overtighten the knob. Very nice locking knob, by the way.
I bought this after seeing it on Yuri Arcurs website, where he used it with a monster Canon DSLR. If it works for him, it ought to work with my little 4/3 gear. And it does, very well.
The quick release (I also have one on my tripod) is small, light and makes a positive lock. I highly recommend it as well.

Comments about Manfrotto by Bogen Imaging 484RC2 Mini Ballhead (Quick Release):
I used on Canon XT(350D) & 50D w/ many lenses.
It support most prime lenses EXCEPT All the Canon L-Series Lenses. (L is always Heavy!)
Of Course, it's Mini Ballhead. Don't expect to hold your camera w/ BIG lens stable.
Very easy and fast to lock & shoot.
If you are just beginner or just started to buy new camera and things, you can go ahead with this head.
However, I personally recommend to get little bigger one to start with. like...mid size head or similar.

Easy to use but not trustworthy when it comes to holding an SLR camera. I chose it because it came up as a suggestion when I bought my Canon 50D but it is too lightweight for a camera like that. Have since ordered [...] which works well.

Comments about Manfrotto by Bogen Imaging 484RC2 Mini Ballhead (Quick Release):
I use this ballhead on my carbon-fiber Feisol traveler tripod - it is small enough to still allow the reverse leg fold and fit in the tripod bag. At the same time it is quite sturdy and securely holds my D90 w/ 18-200 lens locked in place. Tripod and head together are just 3 lbs, ideal for hiking and travel.
Comments about Manfrotto by Bogen Imaging 484RC2 Mini Ballhead (Quick Release):
Works great with the Manfrotto 190XDB Tripod. Now I can take pictures in any angle and not worry about it creeping. The ballhead is sturdy, strong and very well made. Just be careful when you release the ballhead trigger, for your camera will drop down if you are not holding it with the other hand.
