All ball heads fit any Bogen tripod, or any tripod with 3/8"-16 (Euro) thread.

I use this with a superclamp and a stud (all manfrotto gear). It can be put up almost anywhere for a quick and steady camera position. (When used with superclamp, for full flexibilty, the clamp needs to be fixed horisontally - on a vertical axis, like the pole of a street sign etc, your tilt option will be limited, though mounting two ball heads on top of each other will solve the issue). I use this for timelapse photography, and in most cases it's both quicker and better than using a tripod, not to mention how easy it to bring along.
I use this with SLRs. Movement on the ball is nice and easy (but not really something for panning shots.) Frame your shot, fix the head, and it will be as steady as it gets.

'Mini ball head' should have been a warning. This was unquestionably my mistake - I should have gone for 'over-kill' as I normally do. The ball head was purchased with a Manfrotto 695 monopod - it is listed as an accessory. The ball head will probably function quite well for a camera with a normal lens but nothing more substantial. My intended use overpowered the capabilities of this product. Fortunately, a relative (a professional photographer) gave me a ball head (recommended below) that is more than adequate.
Expertise: Serious Amateur
Problems Encountered: Though this ball head is supposed to support 8.8 pounds, it would not hold position for a camera and lens weighing 5.3 pounds. No great loss but disappointing.
Items I Recommend: A different ball head, e.g. Bogen/Manfrotto 488RC4 Midi

when i first opened the box for this ball head, i was very impressed with the feel and weight of this head, but as i started to use it, there were several major disappointments i encountered. i do a lot of long-exposure nighttime shots as well as panoramas and landscapes, so stability is very important to me. when shooting in the day, the stability was more than adequate, but when i stared doing some 20 and 30 sec exposures at night, i noticed that the camera slowly moved down when i rotated the camera into portrait orientation. this gave all my portrait shots a vertical motion blur. Also, after several weeks of moderate use, the glue that held the rubber piece to the pad of the head started to loosen. A week later, the rubber piece came completely off. I have since used super glue to reattach this piece.

The ball head moves fluidly but you might need an converter for the screw to attach to your tripod. It has a 3/8 inch female end which was too big to connect to my tripod alone.

Bought this for use on a Gorillapod. It works just dandy. A quick release would be nice, but not a deal breaker. I'm very happy with it.

I like to hike and this piece is lightweight and compact enough to carry on extended hikes. Don't let the small size fool you. I had this ball head on a lightweight tripod with my zoom telephoto lens and had no problems with movement. That was an extreme situation but with a SLR camera and small lens this head will perform phenominally.
