I had a 300 2.8 w/ a 1.4 tc on my 40D a couple of weekends ago and this thing worked great. I am an avid hobbyist and love this thing. At first I thought it might be too big for me but after using it for a while I could not imagine having anything else. I have it on a set of 055pro legs and love it.

I use the ball head on my Manfrotto 055XPROB with a D300. Makes changing the camera out extremely easy. I like the safety catch; works well. The size of the RC plate is larger than I thought it might be. I would have preferred that it not overlap the edge of the camera frame. The ball head is smooth and easy to adjust; fun to use.

I purchased this product only about a month ago and wouldn't go back to my old 3 handle adjusting top for anything! New to photography, I had no idea the difference a ballhead would make. This particular model is more than sturdy enough for my hobby to grow into. The quick release knobs are easy to access and adjust and the fluid movement of the ballhead feels sturdy and secure. The rotating base with the levels make panoramic shooting a dream. So far, my favorite piece of equipment and definitely the most commented on by friends.

Ok it's not a $400 Markins, however for my D200 and 300 AFS f/4 with TC it works very well. I've just upgrade to a set of 055FM3 legs and the system is very nice.

I also use this ball head for my 90mm spotting scope and it does require a little extra care when you are viewing at the Zenith but it works for my 5 pound scope. Aim your current setup at 90 degrees and see how well it holds.

I am very comfortable using it with the 300 and either the tc1.4 or 1.7 convertors (crop factor: 630 or 750mm focal lengths on the D200). Of course you have to use good long lens technique.

This side of a $400 head, I don't think you can find a better cost/benefit performer.

I recommend it.

I'm use this in a manfrotto 190XDB Tripod and D200 with MB-D200. Also use with ELBOW BRACKET. I'm find very usefull the graduated scale at the base to make panos with the elbow.

I needed to replace my smaller Bogen ball head with a bigger one for macro photography. It supports my Nikon D200, with 105mm macro lens, R1 strobe system and a framerail system. The rapid connect plate is easy to use and very secure. The ballhead is very sturdy with individual controls for rotating the locked ballhead as well adjusting the ballhead itself. The only downside is that the ballhead is not as smooth as the other one that I own. Overall, I am very pleased with the ballhead, and it is a great value. I did have to buy another center post to mount it on, so check out your tripod system to see if you will need one as well.

This Bogan Ball Head is a great buy for the small price you pay. I have bought several of these over the years and had very few problems. The only problem I have had is mainly due to my hard abuse on it. I have broke the ball one time and the quick release one time (this is over a several year period of daily hard use) but I fly with my gear regularly and it takes an unusual beating with all my metal stands. I will continue to buy this product for the future if needed.

I had this ball head for about one year , construction seems sturdy , ball moves smoothly , locking knob need to be tighten harder than I expected to . There was one problem that I need to address that was the QR plate (RC0) either on this ball head or on the 3 way pan head model 3047 did not stay where I set it . A Nikon D200 W/ Power pack and a tele macro 200mm f:4 or even a 16-35 f:2.8 would dragged the setpoint down about 1/8 or more with about 45 degree tilt , when you do macro , 1/8 from your setpoint is significant and it was frustrated because I had to adjust the setpoint several times to get where I wanted it to be . I think it could have been a the QR plate design problem rather than a ball head or a 3 way pan head one . Although price seems reasonable , but tilting managing issue clouds its good use .

Problems Encountered: Setpoint sagged when camera with load tilt down about 30 degree or more .
