The Sony UWP-C1 is a complete UHF wireless lavalier system including a camera-mountable receiver, body-pack transmitter and omni-directional lavalier microphone. Both transmitter and receiver feature 188 user selectable, PLL synthesized UHF frequencies, resulting in plenty of frequency options when experiencing interference.
The camera-mountable receiver features a space-diversity design represented with dual antennas. The design stabilizes reception and minimizes RF interference by selecting the stronger of the 2 incoming receptions for output. In addition the antennas swivel for achieving even stronger reception. The receiver features a stereo mini jack output with monitor volume control. An LCD display provides channel & frequency information, battery life, RF-input level, audio-output status and accumulated operating time. The receiver operates on 2-AA batteries for up to 6 hours and it's compact design and included shoe-mount adapter allows easy mounting to most camcorders.
The body-pack transmitter features selectable RF-output level. Users are able to choose from 5mW output, which is suitable for simultaneous multi-channel operation or 30mW output for long distance transmission. Like the receiver, the body-pack transmitter also features 188 selectable UHF frequencies and operates up to 6 hours on two-AA size alkaline batteries. The transmitter features an LCD display and a 3.5mm input jack which accepts the output of any lavalier microphone equipped with a 3.5mm mini output. The system is supplied with a uni-directional lavalier microphone with a signal response suitable for any application.| System | |

I would classify this as prosumer audio gear. However I have used it professionally for about 2 years, and it has served me well.
Both transmitter and receiver run off of AA's which is handy. It has options to run into XLR balanced even though the wireless mic is not balanced. This still sounds much cleaner than running into an unbalanced channel.
My biggest qualm with it is of aesthetic concern. The included mic and clip are large and ugly. It does not look like a professional mic when pinned on a person. The mic can be replaced, and should be replaced, but just remember this is an unbalanced system. It is great quality for the price, just know what you are getting into.

Awkward Menus
The menus are very awkward and not intuitive. Latch for battery compartment is flimsy. The size of the units are just too large and feel like out of date technology.

I'm relatively new to video productiion but have come to rely on the products I've bought to get me through each shoot. Sony's wireless UWP-C1 microphones have delivered each and every time. I have a limited budget so I researched for awhile before I bought. This mic is great!

Comments about Sony UWP-C1 (66) True Diversity Wireless Lavalier Microphone System:
Bought two of these units for a series of interviews and a TV pilot I was shooting on video. Worked perfectly. Sound quality was clean and clear. The AA Batteries lasted far longer than the manual specification... each set lasted two days of shooting, about 8-10 hours total.
Only wish the lapel mikes were smaller - such as the mike found on Sony's much less expensive wired lav mikes. On a unit as expensive as this, no need to skimp on the details.

I use this mic in professional environments for interviews and weddings. I have had zero issues with interferrece or drop out. I have never had to change frequencies as of yet. I've used this mic at a distance of 100 yards with no issues. It will probably go futher, but my zoom on the camera does not! I have accidentally left it on the groom and followed the limo, (I can hear everything that goes on in the limo on the way to the reception - entertaining side benefit). I highly recommend this mic.

I presently use Sony Wireless products on the high end scale and this rates right up there for the Value.
What I don't like about the whole wireless system is that it does not come with a Mounting bracket for the back of the Camera. So, I made one that works great!

The sony microphone system was easy to use right out of the box. We are currently using this system for video interviews and live audio recording. Lots of upper end features for professional use. Great Product.

The biggest problem I've had is losing a wind screen. Seriously, I've got two sets now and they work great. Lasts 5+ hours, I use rechargeable AAs. Clip to belt or slip transmitter in subject's pocket. The on/off switch is not able to accidentally be flipped. Oh and most importantly gives great audio!

An affordable UHF system - good for most ENG and EFP applications. Lightweight and easy to use. However, could include a smaller mic.

These wireless microphones work great!! I use them for filming outdoors in wind, snow, and rain, and they have never failed me. The range is awesome. We've used them up to a range of 100 yards with out distortion or static. They are probably the best value that you will get unless you are willing to spend over $2000 on the next level of systems like these.

From Africa to Colorado this system has never failed me. I use it on my Sony Z1U, and the size, weight are just right. The hot shoe adapter mount, or velcro on the side of a battery is a perfect place to mount this system. Great primary or back-up wireless!!
