A Better Design
Hasselblad is proud to announce the launch of an extremely high-performance, wide-angle Distagon 40 mm f/4 IF lens for its renowned V System cameras. An extreme retro focus lens with 89° diagonal angle of view. Suitable for application areas such as advertising, interior, industrial, aerial, landscape, and wedding photography. An ideal choice for digital applications. The lens is a part of the ongoing redesign of all Carl Zeiss lenses for Hasselblad.
The lens features a CFE-design with an electrical interface through which to transfer lens data to 203FE and 205FCC cameras for automatic aperture priority exposure. The CFE 40 IF is a part of the current CFi and CFE lens line, which is based on the original CF lens program, but with a range of refinements and improvements designed to provide even better image-quality, reliability, and ease of use. These improvements include an internal design and advanced anti-reflection materials that reduce stray-light to a minimum, enhancing image contrast even more.
Advanced Design
In addition, the lens features a true floating mechanism, which uses a single focusing ring to achieve smooth and precise internal focusing. The use of advanced modern glass types and the internal focusing design provide outstanding image quality over the entire focusing range from 0.5 m to infinity. The lens was also specially designed with digital photography in mind. Lens corrections are extremely well balanced resulting in state-of-the-art, top performance.

Comments about Hasselblad 40mm f/4 CFE IF Zeiss Distagon Lens:
I managed for years with only the 80mm, and lusted mightily after the 40. But I finally purchased the 40 and now use it about 75% of the time. An absolutely beautiful lens. Focus is really smooth and effortless. Unlike older versions of the 40, it has only the one focus ring. Older 40's had a focus range ring to set before you focused. I can't see any compromise in performance now that there is only one focus ring. I would be interested to hear comments about that. These are early impressions, but I think it is a world-class lens (at the price, it should be).

Comments about Hasselblad 40mm f/4 CFE IF Zeiss Distagon Lens:
I use it on my 503CW with P65+ digital back always. I compared it with HC35mm, Rodenstock HR-Digitar-S 35mm and Schneider Digital 35mmXL. This lens is better than others. It is still good for using digital back.

Comments about Hasselblad 40mm f/4 CFE IF Zeiss Distagon Lens:
I keep it on my 203FE as I normally shoot outdoors, everything from structures to landscapes! As with any wide angle lens keeping it level and letting the lens do the work pays off. The internal focus makes this substantial lens a pleasure to use.
I use a Heliopan KR 1.5,a B + W
Kaeseman Linear Polarizer Glass Filters, and ND when necessary.

Comments about Hasselblad 40mm f/4 CFE IF Zeiss Distagon Lens:
I am an architect and an absolute Hasselblad Lover. After searching for every possible alternative in the market in the medium format range nothing astonished me more than this system. I purchased a 503CW kit and a ZEISS 40 CFE IF last year This is an absolutely an amazing tool to own and use. You will be amazed at the sharpness of details and the robust built-quality of the lens. It is a good lens for interiors and produces images which looks more closer to reality. I accidentally dropped the lens from a 30 inch high table to a hard tiled floor. The lens was later tested for any aberrations and was found to be without any. I have since shot hundred of rolls of film.... still perfect.

Problems Encountered: On the down side...There is however slightly noticeable barrel-distortion when objects are closer to the lens and more towards the edges, however one can always work around this. The lens is very The lens is big and heavy as well.A 93mm front UV-Sky filter is a must to protect front lens element, which may be difficult to find and expensive. All-in All very expensive lens. A hasselblad spirit level is a must to level the camera to planet earth...
