Olympus Silica gel will help prevent condensation from forming inside a housing. Condensation will form in a housing when you take it from warm air to cooler water. Internal camera flashes being fired inside the housing will compound this problem.
Since the silica needs some time to act, give it about 10-15 minutes after closing the housing before entering the water.

Comments about Olympus Silica Gel Desiccant:
Given 4/5 because they do not indicate with color change when they need to be replaced. They are the perfect size for my point and shoot housing and are individually wrapped. A couple of weeks ago I got moisture in my housing...about a teaspoon of water all on my camera. Wish I had these then. Glad I finally got them now.

Comments about Olympus Silica Gel Desiccant:
I used one packet of this silica gel in the underwater case for my Canon SD950IS and cured the fogging problem that had plagued me on earlier snorkeling expeditions. I could only fit one pack into the case without interfering with the various controls, but one pack did the trick.
I used each packet once. You might be able to reuse the packets, but I didn't have time to experiment.

Comments about Olympus Silica Gel Desiccant:
This saved my camera from flooding when condensation started on the safety stop at the end of my dive. Just enough to keep the moisture away from the camera body until I could reach the surface.

Comments about Olympus Silica Gel Desiccant:
I have used these for about 6 years in my PT-012, PT-020, PT-027, & PT-E03 housings. Use of these helps prevent fogging on the lens port. Without these fogging almost always occurs in the cold water diving in California. However use does not mean fogging wont occur unless you do the following.
Always open the housing in the driest environment possible. An air conditioned room is best, a galley full of damp divers and cooking food is one of the worst. Alway use new packets every time you open the camera. The individually wrapped packets keep them fresh. Also keep your camera cool and out of the sun. If it must be in the sun wrap it with a damp towel to keep it cool.

Comments about Olympus Silica Gel Desiccant:
I use these in our housings, both Olympus and Light & Motion. They're small enough to slip in anywhere. I haven't had a fogging problem yet. The only drawback is that they're not designed to be reusable. They are individually packed and five come in a small zip lock bag.
