I wear these headphones at my desk in a cubicle in a noisy office and for watching movies when stuck in hotels/trailers doing field work. I'm a scientist so i spend a great deal of time writing reports and travelling for work. For people concerned about noise leakage I've had no complaints from my co-workers listening to an MP3 player at slightly higher than half volume. They actually tell me they've never heard me once. It's a fairly noisy office. I really like the open feature for the fact that I can still hear my phone or people who stop by to talk to me. Without sound pumping they don't reduce a great deal of noise at all. I just turn the music off and have conversations with people. Also the Open design is great for transit to and from work as while walking i can hear traffic/transit announcements and such meaning I won't get hit or look like an idiot walking into traffic. The sound is what you would expect from the unit. Clearer than cheaper headsets, depth is better than closed style. I like that the bass doesn't blow my ears off but is strong enough for most music. More expensive headphones likely do a better job of clarity/bass but i'm not nearly that much of an audio snob.Movies are fantastic. I could really appreciate the effort they put in making the sound as spatially accurate as possible. Everytime there is a person talking, lit torch in the room, a gun being fired, etc, I can close my eyes and point to where it should have come from with great accuracy. (fun to try).Only annoyance is the hugely long cable and the plug with smaller adapter is approx 3-4 inches long. Sticks out pretty bad from whatever it is plugged into. This is only an issue when using the unit in transit. The cable is nice in my office though as it's long enough to follow me where ever I am in my cubicle and while watching movies it gives me some room to move about. All in all a great buy, recommended to many people already. I use these headphones to listen to music and to do audio editing when I am up late and cant use my monitors. I love Sennheisers, and have been a devoted customer for a while. I originally developed brand loyalty from listening to 10+ headphones in a comparison test, and they had by far my favorite tone. After misplacing my last pair, I wanted an over the ear headphone in the cheaper range. After giving them a good listen, they honestly dont seem to have the same quality that I had come to expect from Sennheisers. Dont get me wrong, they still sound great, and seem to have a pretty even frequency response, but they lack a certain quality that I was hoping for. While I still recommend Sennheisers, I would either step up to their top line model or save your money and go with the HD-202's (I had them for a long time, and while I cant a/b them, they are comparable quality in my mind, just not over ear).

Comments about Sennheiser HD 555 - Circumaural Open-Back Hi-Fi Stereo Headphones:
The Sound through these headphones is very clear. The quality of sound is just a tad lacking. I would say these are more built for comfort. They can be worn for very long periods of time.
However, there are bits of sound that you hear that you would not typically hear through other headphone options. These work great and get the job done, and are cozy to wear.

Comments about Sennheiser HD 555 - Circumaural Open-Back Hi-Fi Stereo Headphones:
First off, I bought these cans for home use for my ipod nano. I was disappointed about the distorted sound from my ipod and the low volume level. Connected these cans to a computer or home stereo system, they sound awesome. Did some research about distorted sound from the ipod, it was because of the sound level of the songs amplified by the eq settings. Two possible fixes were to disable the eq or lower the level of the mp3 by using a free software call MP3Gain. After lower the sound level of all my mp3s and adding an FiiO E5 portable amplifier, the sound quality is just amazing. From rap to classical, they are perfect! I guess these cans, you can really tell a difference in the clarity of music. I just can't put it down now. I learn to appreciate music all over again. Thank you Sennheiser for another great product!

These are my first pair of headphones and I sure did a lot of research before buying them. Mainly I use them for music and gaming at home.
Best thing about them is the comfort level, I can go on gaming for hours without having to adjust them. They fit perfectly on my ears and my big head :D
Sound, as expected, is also amazing. Bass is sweet! The only downside would be the long cable but then again I never opened it so it's all good. I just keep the cable wrapped up as it was since I only use it for my PC anyway. I got a zalman microphone which attaches perfectly to the cable as well :D

Comments about Sennheiser HD 555 - Circumaural Open-Back Hi-Fi Stereo Headphones:
It might not be a basshead's dream, but for someone who likes quality over just base these are it. I use these headphones everyday, while traveling and at school. They may not be as comfortable as the Bose over head headphones, but comfortable none the less and definitely sound better. They completely surround your ear, so it is less annoying than the ones that apply pressure on your ear lobe. They're definitely well built and look great, for people looking into aesthetics. They aren't the best for full noise cancellation, but pump the volume and you should be fine. That being said, people can hear your music when the volume does gets that high. Some people may find the 1/4" to 3.5mm audio jack a bit bulky to use with their small mp3 players or phones, but it's a small price to pay for quality and honestly I don't mind. If worse comes to worst, you can get an adapter with an extended wire to the 3.5mm jack. The most amazing thing about this is that you probably won't find a better deal for these anywhere else. [...], they were still much cheaper than buying from here.

This is rated 5 stars for the value (which is what stars should represent). They are not the best headphones available for purchase, particularly for music, but they are a great all-around headphone.
Especially for movies/digital TV/video games they are great. I love the "directional" sound and dolby digital sound tracks sound perfect through my Denon AVR-590.
This i what I use late at night when I wanna watch TV or listen to music without compromising volume and not disturbing others.

These were my first pair of higher end headphones. The sound quality is impressive and I literally forget im wearing them they're so comfortable... (i'd heard that before and was a bit skeptical but it's true!)
I use them for gaming and music and am quite happy.
Bass is present but not overpowering.. If I'm listening to high-bass music like jungle, i just up the settings on my onboard eq and goodNESS it rocks.

I had been using a pair of Sony MDR-V700 DJ headphones up until I got the new Sennheiser HD 555, and I thought that it would have been difficult to improve on the sound of the Sonys. But I was so wrong! These Sennheisers are the clearest-sounding headphones I've ever experienced. I have read reviews of other Sennheisers that are better, apparently, but for the price you will not find a better pair on the market. The open-back gives a clear, crisp tone that makes the Sonys sound dark and muddy in comparison. I understand that the Sonys were made for live DJ use -- intentionally blocking out outside noise -- and the Sennheisers are for studio work, but until I experienced it I didn't expect there to be so much of a difference.

These headphones are all-around great. The sound is incredible. I'm hearing parts of my music I never knew existed. However, it lacks the replaceable cord. So, they are only good for home use. If you decide to attach to a portable device you will be fumbling around with a 10' wire. Or, if you want home use you will be limited to a 10' radius. In other words, these are pretty much designed for home music recording/djing. Also, if the cord breaks... you are [*].

After using it a couple of weeks, I understand why HD 555 receives such a high reputation. No complaint about sound quality. My only trivial complaint is about the material of the ear pads. It is something velvet-like fabric. It is too sweaty (I am in California though).

I use with my Large screen HD TV late at night so as not wake anyone. The sound is good and the headphones wear well. Not too tight.
