I have used a variety of ENG wireless mics the past 28 years. Some awful and some great. I bought this Sennheiser system with little expectations. I needed a cube plug-on transmitter so I thought I take a gamble on this set-up. I was very pleasantly surprised. It's a steal at this price! I shouldn't say that too loud. For me dropouts are very rare and the frequency agility makes this system even better. Like any wireless system understand the frequency block that you are purchasing. Even the most expensive wireless mics will give you trouble in a city or community that is already swamped with RF living on your block. When I find myself in a new environment I simply scan the receiver for a clear frequency and I am set to go. I love these mics, they are very well made too. The included ME2 lav sounds as good as any Tram I've ever heard if not better. Running on AA batteries is another plus, they are cheap and easy to find and you don't have a dead 9 volt starting a small fire in your pocket when it comes in contact with your keys or coins. Great value don't hesitate.

I use the Lectrosonics UCR100 plug in and lav system every day and it rarely drops out unless I am a few walls away from the transmitter. With this Sennheiser system, it works great in a church 30 feet away. After that, there is no telling. Every possible thing that can cause static, dropout, pops, will happen to your signal. Wind even causes the signal to go into static mayhem. It seems great when you test it in ideal conditions. I have used it on 5 weddings, and every time I relied on it to actually get important sound, it failed completely. When I get to any location I learned to scan for the best signal, because if you don't do that you don't even have the slightest hope. They claim it has a lot of output power but that is wrong. The plugin can't go line of sight more than 20 feet. I am not joking. The lavalier is slightly better, that is the unit that will work in a church from 30 feet away. The plugin makes it really hard to adjust the sensitivity on the fly due to the small recessed buttons, and even then its hard to tell because it usually wont go 5 feet to my camera while I am testing it. This whole system is hit an miss - it works really well when you are testing it and there are talking heads in close proximity. Thats why I bought it because it worked well as a second lav for podiums when I used a friend's unit. It seemed like it had more leeway in setting the sensitivity that I was used to, you have to be careful on the Lectrosonics 100 lav transmitter because it doesn't have an auto leveling system - which is why it is great - you have to turn a knob. The sensitivity on the lavalier on this Sennheiser is also annoying because at 0 db it pretty much distorts anything. At -20 it is about right for someone giving a speech, but it will distort pretty quickly if they raise their voice. At -30 there is room for yelling but the dynamic range is so low that once they stop speaking loud, there is no way to compensate on the camera and you get muddled hissing. These units are designed very nice, they are nice to hold and the backlit screens are pretty cool looking, but that doesn't mean they are going to be there for you. They seem like it when you set them up. You test the plugin at the intended distance and it sounds great - you say this is such a deal, it sounds awesome!, but then 20 minutes later an important speech is going on and you only hear static. I swear these things are cursed. Also, don't buy the Sony lavaliers that they want you to buy with rebates on their cameras - these have a continuous hissing that you can do nothing about, I dont know why anyone uses them. They also have an apparently very low signal to noise ratio. I am not crazy, I have used them a few times and it is true. Spend 2x the money and buy the lectrosonics 100 kit with the tram microphone, and get the 800 dollar plugin for the lectrosonics and know that you dont even need to monitor the audio because it is there for you every day getting amazing sound. I just got a few more.

Comments about Sennheiser Evolution G2 100 Series - Wireless Microphone Combo (A / 518 - 554MHz):
I've hauled video kit around the globe several times over, and never been wrong about trusting Sennheiser wireless mics to get the job done consistently and well. This combo is flexible, reliable, and provides a solid quality for the documentary style shooting I do. They are rugged enough to handle the rain forest humidity of Central America and the dusty heat of India. At times there are good reasons to buy higher up the ladder than this, but certainly not to improve on solid reliability. For month after month journeyman work, the G2s are like a gold standard.

Comments about Sennheiser Evolution G2 100 Series - Wireless Microphone Combo (A / 518 - 554MHz):
Really great transmitter/receiver. Suggest you really understanding the menu & gain structure. Once mastered can be used for mic and line applications with confidence. Have used these in feature production in very hot (115F) to cold (0F) conditions. Batteries didn't like it, but that's not the Sennheiser fault! In more normal conditions rechargeables last about 6 hours consisitent use. Clean, clear sound (no companding) and great construction to combat technically challenged actors who tend to through gear around. No failures in three years.
All I have done to improve this system is change the stock lav mic. Shure WL93 big improvement (better pickup pattern, clothes noise rejection & way smaller) as would more expensive Sennheisers, Tram, Countryman, but then the system cost increases. Basically, the point is, the supplied lav is ok, the electronics packs are great.

I bought one set of G2 100 wireless mics a year or so ago, and was so impressed that just got another set and a hand mike to go with them.
These little lavalier mics are very sensitive, and I have almost no static with the transmitters/receivers. When we do, it's always a distance problem that was out fault, not the mics. I'd recommend these Sennheiser units to anyone who does high quality video work for Tv, internet, mobile entertainment work--which is what we do.

I have use this wireless mic system everytime I have a gig regardless of the function. Interviews for sporting events, wedding reception live feed from DJ, playing at an event with self powered speakers wirelessly, broadcasting church events etc. I guess what i'm saying is buy this unit if you are serious about your work. Many might say it can't be that good at that price range but I would disagree. This product performs professionally regardless of the function.

This is the 4th kit I've purchased. We use them in a variety of situations - live events, studio productions, etc. We've found that more often than not, someone else has the same system, which makes it easy to pick up a speaker who is wearing the same mic... don't read it as a bad thing - it's a great thing when you show up to a venue and can put one mic on someone and pick it up from multiple receivers. These systems are quite durable, have many channels, and sound fantastic. I highly recommend them to anyone. Ohh, and the batteries seem to last forever. We get a solid 8 hours out of a set.

Great wireless microphone system!
Combo unit features handheld plug as well as lavalier body pack transmitters. Use this system all the time.
Had to purchase a new kit recently (A system) because my 3 year old kit (C system) used the 700 MHz band that is being sold off by the FCC for private use.
HIGHLY recommend this system!

Comments about Sennheiser Evolution G2 100 Series - Wireless Microphone Combo (A / 518 - 554MHz):
I got this as a B&H kit with 2 wireless lav mikes and an ElectroVoice RE50B handheld and transmitter for location shoots and use at trade shows --mostly interviews.
This is my first set of wireless microphones and am very pleased with it. Set up is easy and the sound is clear and has very few dropouts. I only had a problem in a room full of high-end digital printing systems, computer networks and a lot of RF interference. We got extra noise, drop-outs, and it was hard to find a clear freq. But I had it at a trade show full of the same stuff and I used one freq all week with no worries.
My only complaints are with the transmitter for the handheld, which I plug into the ElectroVoice RE50B. The mike is great, but the locking ring on the Sennheiser transmitter doesn't screw into the RE50B the way it would into the Sennheiser mike it's often sold with. It works fine, but it would be nice to have a tighter, more positive connection.
It's also a bit more awkward to tune the handheld transmitter to the freq on the receiver than it is for the transmitters for the lav mikes, but it still works fine.
The documentation from Sennheiser is not very well written, but B&H included a little crib sheet from Pearstone that makes setting all the pieces up much easier.
For the money, it's very hard to go wrong. As another shooter I said when we were sussing out each others' gear, "A lot of guys knock Sennheiser's stuff, but they all have a set of those mikes in their bag."

If you are looking for a wireless mic for video production, take a hard look at the GS 100 series.
I purchased this combo set about a month ago and have been able to test it and use it on a couple of shoots. No problems were noticed during taping or in post.
Attaches very nicely to our Canon GL2. During the testing session I was able to walk around our "all Brick" building. I could get about 150 ft out of direct site from the receiver before the audio started to break up.
We used the wiress lav during a shoot in a VERY large baseball fieldhouse with VERY loud air cond. units running, needless to say the sound was great!
I have not used this system with a comsumer camera. (that camera broke, looking for a new one) Using it with the GL2, I was able to manually control the audio volume.
When using this unit, there is not a soft wind screen mic cover for the lav. If you can, remember to keep the mic at a reasonable distance from subjects mouth and control the volume at the camera level.

Comments about Sennheiser Evolution G2 100 Series - Wireless Microphone Combo (A / 518 - 554MHz):
I received the Evolution G2 100 Series Microphone Combo and immediately put the belt pack transmitter/ receiver into use during a HDV Interview w/my Z1-U the same day. The signal was too strong and distorted the talent's voice!
So. after a quick review of the written instructions in the box, I reduced the transmitter's output to -20db and recorded the program perfectly.
The wireless system performed quite well and penetrated through 2 floors of a steel-framed building. The auto search function for available channels on the receiver was fast and effective. AA battery power is a great feature; no more searching for low power 9 volt batteries in remote locations.
The only complaint concerns the metal windscreen not fitting properly onto the omni mic. The windscreen kept popping off, so I have removed it. I guess I'll need a small fuzzy windsock when I record in the wind. Other than that, I love the system. The plug on XLR transmitter makes the boom operator's job easier; no cords to carry and trip over.

I've used the "C" band series of this combo for daily ENG for two years, with excellent results. However, I live and work in a small metro area (under 200,000 immediate population). Maybe there's just too much interference in L.A.?
