Perfect stand for a background light. Small and compact to store/transport but plenty stable to securely support a speedlight or even studio strobe. Big plus is that the legs and stand can be easily hidden behind subject.

I was looking for a tripod that I could use it for backgrounds, but this item is even better. You can also set up your light on top of furnitures and work as back light. Really good!

Comments about Manfrotto 012B Backlight Stand with Extension Pole, Black - 3.5-33.5" (8.9-85cm):
I use these stands or holding speedlights or mono heads when lighting backgrounds. Very good quality and very sturdy with a fair amount of weight for their size. Would have given 5 stars but stands don't really extend from 3.5" up to 33.5". They can be used at 3.5" and then from about 16" or so up to 33.5".
They break down easily and are quite compact when broken down.

I am VERY happy with this purchase. I use it to put my Canon Speedlite onto for a background/separation light as well as a small softbox stand for my babies. Detaches into two pieces for easy and compact storage.

The best way to put your lights low - from 3 inches to 30. Can be used without the pole, and often does double duty holding mics, or props. Anyone with lights needs one of these.

We use this Manfrotto Backlight Stand for lighting. It is a worthwhile addition to anyone needing a stand for their lighting. It is of typical, excellent Manfrotto quality and will not dissappoint! A stand of this nature can be purchased for a few dollars less under a different stand company but I would strongly urge any potential customer NOT to purchase an inferior product [...]

I wish I bought this a long time ago. This is so convient to have since you can remove the extension pole so easily. The extension pole has 2 different thred screws on the each end making it easily adaptable to whatever you are attaching.

Provide flexible mounting of lights from floor level to nearly a yard high. Fold flat for easy carry and storage. You can buy them w/o the pole, but it offers increased functionality for only a few bucks more.

Comments about Manfrotto 012B Backlight Stand with Extension Pole, Black - 3.5-33.5" (8.9-85cm):
I bought one of these backlight stands about 10 or so years ago and i just bought a second one. "Back in the day" you used to have to pay extra for black stands. This one comes in black as standard and seems to be the same high quality as the older stand with one noticeable improvement. The knob for tightening the pole used to be an uncomfortable squarish shape. Now they use a much better, wing-nut style tightener. Nice.
I use this stand for back lights and main lights that i need lower than my other stands will allow. I've also used it to mic my bass drum or amp, mount a Zoom H4 stereo recorder, etc. Its pretty versatile.

I did my due diligence before finding this particular stand. This is a sturdy stand that holds my White Lightning Ultra 600 without my having to worry about stability. l'd definitely recommend it because it performs just as it should and is reasonably priced.

While I've been using conventional light stands to cross-light backgrounds, this stands provides the means to light the background evenly by placing it in the middle, behind the subject. Since you can use it with, or without, the extension pole, height is not an issue.

Bought this to hold a single strobe fired at a background. It comes in two pieces--the adjustable height pole and the legs that are attached to one another. This allows the whole setup to fold flat when taken apart. I added an umbrella swivel to the top of the pole so I can tilt and swivel the strobe as needed.

This is a great stand for a kick light or low background light. The fact that you can choose to take the pole off to use it really low is great.

The build is typical of a Manfrotto product, no cheap parts here. It is a sturdy and well built, no frills backlight stand, and B&H had it for the best price on the web... highly recommended!
